Battlefield 3 Keeps Crashing
- Oct 26, 2011 9:46 pm GMTI can play for a random amount of time, usually 5 minutes, before the game suddenly freezes completely, causing the audio to be distorted and me having to manually turn off my computer. Sometimes when it crashes it will take me back to my desktop instantly, and I still see the Battlefield 3 icon on the taskbar, but it will not let me go back into the game, and I must then end it using task manager. This exact same thing was happening to me in the beta as well, and I figured the problem would be fixed when the full game was released, but evidently, it has not. I have updated drivers, tried older drivers, and even tried wiping all the drivers off my computer and reinstalling them. Since the beta, when I was having the same problem, I have changed my CPU, my GPU, my motherboard, and upgraded my RAM from 4GB to 8GB. I have already tried repairing the game and reinstalling, but nothing seems to fix the problem. I have two GIGABYTE GTX 560 Ti Overclocked (Factory Overclocked to 900Mhz) graphics cards. I have tried them both together using SLI, and each one individually. I can not find out what the problem is, and as you can imagine, it is very frustrating. Anyone know how I can fix this? Both the campaign and multiplayer have this issue. One of my graphics cards is the one I used during the beta, and I figured the reason it was crashing was because it was faulty, even though it doesn't crash on any other game. However, I recently bought another of the same card to SLI, and used it by itself, and it still crashes the same. Also, I haven't been able to see this yet on full release, but during the beta, when my computer allowed me back to the desktop, I caught glimpses of "nvidia driver blah blah blah has stopped responding". If you need any other information about my computer to help me, please ask. Thanks, and I hope somebody out there will be able to help me, as I am desperate to play this game.

- Oct 26, 2011 10:47 pm GMTI'm having no problem whatsoever and I'm nearly done with the entire Campaign. From what it sounds like something may be overheating, or your fans may be broken. Try the hardware forum, you may have more luck there.

- Oct 26, 2011 11:09 pm GMTOkay, I'll try over there. I'm positive it's not a heat problem. I thought this might be the reason why back when I had an older case, but now I constantly moniter my GPU and CPU temperatures with PC Wizard. I have a brand new case now with fantastic fans. But anyway, thanks for trying to help me, more than I can say for the EA Support...

Got same problem. Every time i enter a vehicle my pc crashes. When just walking around and shooting i experience no problems.
Also i only have this problem in Multiplayer. The Campaign works just fine.
Weird. It's the only game i have installed that's having this problem.
I believe i remember i had the same problem with bf2 sometimes.

- Oct 27, 2011 10:22 pm GMTI am having the exact same problem as you. My game lasts about 5 minutes into multiplayer before it freezes up.It lasts slightly longer in singleplayer. I have a single GTX580 and am running windows 7. I have updated all of the drivers, and even tried a fresh install. Still having the same problems. It's getting quite frustrating :(

The game has only crashed (stopped responding) once. Overall the game is working fine apart from the green screen flicker that sometimes occurs.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.
- Oct 30, 2011 5:09 pm GMTI'm having a similar issue but this happens randomly in game. It seems every EA published title i buy, there is always a direct interference between the game and the GPU not being together in holy matrimony. Last time when i contacted EA. They went into complete denial mode saying it was my Operating system and not my graphics card. But I INSISTED that it was an issue regarding the GPU and the game engine (this game was dead space 2 before that). Again EA's batch of retarded customer support personnel replied talking about a TOTALLY different game not even related to the issue i was having with deadspace 2. So then i told them WTF are you talking about? Then they person said "oh never mind don't read that, it is likely that it is your operating system" couple weeks later i got a new graphics card and GUESS WHAT!?, it stopped randomly crashing! Which proves that it was an issue with the 9800 series GPU. Now on the the new latest nvidia card i got. And a different but similar issue is heat customer service and optioappening with battlefield 3. Rant time! (viewer discretion is advised especially toward EA fans) EA is a very retarded publisher, Especially for starting up this origin crap. instead of going the traditional route of offering Grnal deals that are useful to the customer. EA decided to do something crude by pulling future titles from steam to try to force draw or "funnel" it's customers off of steam onto their rusty counter filled with roaches (origin). it is quite stupid and involves you to first start it up (which it is slow as hell). Frustratingly download battlefield 3 from the CD (which i had to redo 4 times and reads the CD twice as slow from traditional installs) Afterwords Click on "play battlefield 3, then it opens up your web browser where you again (for no reason at all) have to click play battlefield 3 campaign which is pretty much clicking play battlefield 3 again........ So apparently it makes perfect sense to have a regular button on your desktop, click that, Which leads to origin. Click play battlefield 3 again, then click on the webpage from the browser to play battlefield 3 which you could of done by only clicking once from the Desktop all to begin with, but oh no. it's better to click 3 buttons in a sequence which launches two different applications (one of which wants to spam you into it's community) then finally launching the game from which i could of saved 10 seconds of my life by only having to click one button. Rant time is over..... So it is an issue related to the new graphics card update (the game will refuse to run on the older driver) or it could just be an issue communicating with certain configurations of hardware (which mostly all bugs in pc games have) It needs an update bad but the again it was just released not to long ago. i'll keep you posted if i find a solution around it. aftermath with a little more rant. And don't get me wrong either battlefield 3 is amazing! it's just in the hands of the WRONG publisher who hates offering customer and technical support services, and just services. Wish it was published by Ubisoft instead. Oh well gonna buy rock smith from them as my next game.

I just bought the game yesterday. Last night when I started up my first multiplayer game it froze after about 5 minutes with funny green patterns covering the screen. Went back to desktop and it said mycard stopped responding and has recovered. I also just upgraded my graphics card to a gtx 580 which made it frustrating. Went to the nvidia forums and many people are facing the same issue.
In any case I went to the official Nvidia website and used the 'auto detect system' function. Once I did that I attempted to update my drivers and even though it said my pc is already using the latest drivers I re-installed them anyway. Ever since I did that last night and today I have had no issues.
Hope this helps some people.

Here is some fix for Nvidia user that I found on other site.
1) I have an NVIDIA card and I get mouse lag and delayed input lag, how do I fix it?
In NVIDIA control panel, select max pre rendered frames and select 0.
2) Punkbuster keeps kicking me, what do I do?
Do not use the punk buster from even balance! Use the one that came with the game, and if having issues, click repair, it will replace files that are corrupt and attempt to fix the game, this fixed the you have been kicked by an administrator for me.
3) My game doesn't connect at times and it keeps me out.
Please make sure to forward the proper ports or enable UPNP/DMZ to fix the issue, sometimes router's NAT firewall or windows firewall blocks battlelog/punkbuster from establishing a proper connection causing an issue.
4) My overclock used to be stable but now I crash every 5 minutes? What do I do?
Install the 280.26 drivers, these drivers are rock solid in battlefield and I have no issue with my overclocks whatsoever with these, I had more crashes with the new drivers and they went away with these ones.
5) I have 1.5gb gpu or 3gb gpu but when I am in a vehicle sometimes it keeps me out and the error message says I don't have enough ram, what do I do?
Increase your pagefile 2048 of your system ram, so if you have 6 gygs of ram then select 8096, this seems to fix the issue of not enough ram for the game when exiting some vehicles.
6) Game sometimes crashes without reason, what do I do?
Disable NVIDIA 3D vision, you may also uninstall it if you have no use for it, this fixed the issue for random exits.
7) I disabled 3D vision, and I am still getting random exist, what gives?
If you have MSI afterburner with the OSD ( on screen display), make sure you select stealth mode so it doesn't exit by itself.
8) I have a sandy bridge system and I get a lot of frame spikes, what do I do?
Disable HT in BIOS, NVIDIA is aware of the issue and are working to fix it. Please make sure to disable threaded optimization on nvidia control panel as well for battlefield. Vredit to eduardmc for the HT tweak. You may also try the 280.26 drivers and see if that fixes your issue.

The difference between you and me? I run towards gunfire.

Why are you posting this here? There are forums ON BATTLELOG explicitly for technical issues. Post this there.
Also, this is a fairly common issue that has no solution as of yet.

- Oct 31, 2011 10:18 am GMTI did post on Battlelog. As I was desperate to play, I was posting everywhere I could for help. I don't understand what's wrong with posting here? Some people, pfft. Thanks for your "help". By the way, to anyone interested, I fixed the issue. I used MSI afterburner to change the voltage of my card from the default value to 1.050. That completely fixed all my crashes, works like a charm now.

- Oct 31, 2011 10:18 am GMTOh, also, if you don't want to raise the voltage, you can try underclocking, although I'm not positive that works.
