im only getting around 25 to 30 fps on high-very high setting at 1680x1050 and only around 45-50 fps on low, what can i do to change this it seems like my video card should be able to play it with way more frames per second.

well im saving up for a quad core then h2owizardAlso a new MOBO and RAM. Don't sink any more money into 775.
Overclock it to 3.2 Ghz or higher and the video card will quickly become the bottleneck...
btw Crysis doesn't fully utilize four cores.
Your CPU is a huge bottleneck for something like crysis 1.

Not really. If he overclocks to 2.8-3.0ghz then the bottleneck will be the GPU again. Crysis isn't very CPU-intensive.
the hd 6850 is a pretty new card on the high end side is it not? also what graphics cards can max out crysis at 60 fps or higher? im talking about single gpus not sli or crossfireh2owizard
i believe only a 580 gtx at the moment. the 570 and 6970 come close. again this is with the latest core i7 cpu's

The 6850 is a mid-range card, it's not really bad or good, it's just right there in the middle. The 6870 is slightly better, much better to OC. I'd say that the 570/580 would be able to get close to maxing out Crysis with 60 FPS, but there are other factors than just GPU.
[QUOTE="Tezcatlipoca666"]how many frames per second can you get? you have roughly the same videocard as me i think.Overclock it to 3.2 Ghz or higher and the video card will quickly become the bottleneck...

I played through one of the levels for ya. I forget the name but it's the third or fourth.
Bench 1: Avg: 34.948 - Min: 19 - Max: 45
Bench 2: Avg: 33.477 - Min: 15 - Max: 53
That is all very high, 2xMSAA, 16xAF, and 1920x1080. HD 6850 overclocked to 950 Mhz.

very nice, so i see overclocking the gpu is does good. i have the xfx version though and i read a little while ago in another thread that xfx arent good overclocking cards they are good at their stock values. That's a strange claim honestly. I bet that you could at least achieve a 900 Mhz core and 1100 Mhz memory overclock as that doesn't require a voltage increase and barely increases load and idle temperatures.
I used to have an XFX HD 4770 and it overclocked like a beast. Like a 25% increase on the core clock with the stock voltage :P
all this time its been out and its still hard for the average pc to run damn hahah2owizardat max the 6850 can handle light games are 1080p but for games like crysis you have to turn it down a notch..well im playing crysis only at 1366x768 with a 6850 and getting 45-50fps.so maybe you have lower your resolution.
okay gravity gamer i will try that, i always thought that you need to set it at the default resolution, you know the resolution that is the most pixels that your monitor can displayh2owizardOviously that will look better, but resolution has a large effect on performance. You could always try 'high' instead of 'very high'. I personally don't feel it makes a big enough difference to justify the performance difference.
Probably the physics maxing out your CPU. As I said earlier, it would run quite a lot better if you were to overclock to 3.0-3.2 Ghz or higher.
yeah tbh i can overclock my gpu fine but thats because its easy to do in the catalyst, im pretty sketchy about doing that to my cpuh2owizardjust overclock your cpu from the BIOS...its easy..im running athlon x2 245 2.9GHz to 3.41GHz.i really see a difference.

for its time it was. and this really isn't a 'new' cpu  i shouldnt laugh tho. my old cpu bottlenecked me at 30 frames at any setting.see thats where i went wrong i thought that was a high end card when i bought it, but its all good because my budget was not very high at all and its a good step up from an 8800 gts 320mbh2owizard
i first played the game on a e6400 @ 2.2GHZ at the same res with a 8800GTS 640mb with 2GB of RAM. i new the system limits and set it to medium. had a great time.
