I finally bought an HD tv, and I was kind of confused as to which product is for me. I'd appreciate it if someone could differentiate between these two. Thanks.

both support HD but the difference is that HDMI is digital while component is analog. HDMI is newer so go for it

As my 360 is a launch model, I don't have HDMI - I'm running 1080i with component, but I have been using my HDTV as my PC monitor and when I went from component to HDMI the improvement I saw was with text being sharper with HDMI (through an $8.00 DVI-HDMI cable I picked up off of ebay).

I dont mean this in as a troll but surely we are getting to the point that this question has been asked so many times that one of the many results in the searchwould be the better choice to posting a new thread...And they are there in droves ... But their is essentially no difference except that HDMI is digital and has audio and vid going through a single cable so its the prefered choice

HDMI has fewer wires and you don't need to use a Microsoft made one, so it's future-proof.

I would personally go for HDMI since the picture is JUST a little more clear and the audio is also a little better due to it being one cable and digital. I recommend buying it from like Amazon since the stores usually stock them for like $50 and amazon has cables starting at $0.99 and due to them being digital signals, you don't have to worry about the cheap cables being bad

Well I don't have 360 but for my PS3 I use a HDMI cable.

Go w/ that; as the HDMI cable is the superior of the two (as others have mentioned) w/ the fact it's a complete digital stream of the picture/video/audio signal. Whereas component cable is not (analog).

Since you got your answer (obviously) what Tv?.. I've done splitscreen side by side comparison with component and HDMI, it improves color saturation (richer color) and slight improvement of dark area detail. (very slight) It actually says this on certain cables packaging. It's surprisingly true. Sharper text I couldn't comment on nor improved resolution since those aren't things I noticed in my experience. I've gone threw VGA, HD comp, HDMI/DVI, and simple HDMI. HDMI and DVI are the best.
