In a few weeks I'll be settling down with a brand new, rambunctous ball of fur all my own. In recieveing regular updates on the puppy I'll be getting I find myself struggling to find the right name for him. He's a Golden Retriever and he'll be nine weeks old when I get him. I need to come up with something sufficiently geeky or I swear I'll never forgive myself. At the same time it needs to be somethign that other people will accept and that fifteen years from now when he's still around I won't feel like a dumbass calling him. Currently I'm considering going with "Nate" after Nathan Drake from the Uncharted series. It's short, to the point and had a strong sound to it. But I'm not sure. I have also considered naming him after a video game company: Atari, Konami, etc.

Oh ye wise ones of the intarwebz. What do you think? Do you have any geeky names you like for pets - male or female or any species.

I'm in need of some inspiration here.

iDog, Woofinator, Roffles, Chewy, Amaterasu (rolls right off the tongue)... Yeah, I'm mostly just trying to be funny. I have to say that "Nate" doesn't sound like much of a dog name to me though. I think "Drake" would work better than "Nate" if you're going to go that route.

My high school Calculus teacher really had a cat named dt. Get it? That is definitely the geekiest pet name I have ever heard of.

Yeah, that is how he pronounced it. Of course, the reference is lost on those who have never taken (or have forgotten) Calculus. I am taking it again now in college, and I still find the name funny. I will be putting that cat's name on my final multiple times Thursday night.

Monty ? Reference to Monty Python.

Or if you want Geeky, how about XxDaN00biNaTorZxX. Then again, imagine trying to fit that on a collar tag....

I think it'd be just one character long from being a gamertag.

"dt" was pretty epic I have to admit. I'm an on-again, off-again geology student so I've considered going with a mineral or something like Mica or a some other geology term like Tarn. My geology professor and his wife have a husky namd Esker. Ten points to whowever knows what that means.

Ace isn't too bad of a suggestion. I'm still considering that one and Krypto. I like Yoshi, too.

Peggle is out because it's too damn 'cutesy' and Monty is out because I have to be the only geek who hates Monty Python. I also have an uncle named Monty so that'd be a bit weird.

Any other ideas out there?

Mr Bigglesworth - (from Austin Powers). You can go around saying, "Come, Mr Bigglesworth." In your evil voice... it would be funny.

In light of the release of Iron Man 2, the name Tony is rapidly gaining momentum amongst my friends... Rhodey is a close second.

Other suggested names related to comic books: Bucky, Reed, Teddy, Pete, Jack, Hank, Cassie, and just Captain America.
