I'm basically gonna use the desktop for gaming and this what combination I'm going either core i7 930 w/ HD5870Or amdphenom II X6 BE w/HD5870 or amd phenom II X4 955 w/ HD5850. The core i7 rework of the turbo boosteris a plus for me however not sure aboutthe phenomII X6 BEwhole system set up price compare to core i7 930 and i seen some benchmarks and certain field for the phenom II X6 BE seems to win compare to core i7 930or vice verse but haven't seen any benchmarks for games yet. So I just need to know which should I go for the Server families of both company or just phenom II X4 955? I wouldn't be overclocking itanytime soon on any part and one more question is the USB 3.0 worth getting? I'm gonna play this games in future which is diablo3, starcraft 2 and some FPS games like MW2,Ghost Recon:Future Soldiersand Borderlands. Thanks with regards.

If you're not going to overclock then I'd go with the X6. At stock speeds it's on par with an i7 930. Once you overclock though the i7 wins out.

As for USB 3.0 it'll be worth having probably in another six months or so when a lot of external HDDs start coming out with USB 3.0. I hear that digital cameras will also start supporting it and I'd imagine that USB thumbdrives will as well.

Do you do video processing etc? If not, then get an i5 750. And use the extra cash for a better graphic card.

The i5 750 is quad core, power efficient and is a better choice for gaming (price while performance is slightly lower) than i7/X6.

Huh, what? Are those combos right? o.O i7/5870 or PII/5850? While it's no lie that i7 beats PIIx4, the difference will be extremely minimal if the graphics cards are the same. On the other hand a Core 2 Duo with 5870 will stomp a i7 980 extreme with 5850. Those quad core CPUs will not make a big difference at all among each other in gaming, just pick the best possible graphics card you can afford within your budget range.

HERE is a review comparing directly the 930 with the 1090t both stock and overclock. For overall cost and performance you can see that the new AMD beats the i7 930 in almost everything and it overclocks very well with a good heatsink. Even though I have a i7 920 at 4.0Ghz, I would personally go with with AMD x6 with a 5850 crossfire setup, which beats a single 5870 or 480 in every benchmark I've seen.

For a PSU, go with Corsair, Antec, Cooler Master, PC Power and Cooling (expensive), ABS (pretty expensive too), or (some) OCZ. There are other good brands too.

For a bargain from a brand that most people here would not recommend- Look at the Rosewill Green Series 630 watt. Their Green Series of PSUs are made by ABS, and are of pretty high quality. Only downside is that they aren't modular, so you will have a bit more extra cable clutter than those that are. But $59.99 for a 630 watt PSU that peaks at 730 watt, has a 50 amp 12-volt rail, Active PFC, and 80+ cert. is an amazing deal. It sold me, and I haven't had an issue yet running my Phenom II 955/5870 rig.
