Super Mario Word, Final Fantasy 7, Ocarina Of Time. These are all great games. Perfect according to some. However this is not about them. This is about the games that probably aren't on any best of lists. Talk about the games that you liked that you feel are hidden gems. I'll start.

Mega Man Legends

MMLegendsBox.jpg

This game is disliked by some Mega Man Fans. However I will always love it. With a great story and graphical charm that stands up to this day. With a bizzare sort of graphics akin to cel shading Mega Man Legends has a sty1e that sets it apart from othersThe story was simple but compelling and the attention to detail in this game was impressive. You could walk up to anything and investigate it and Mega Man would have something to say about it.

Jet Force Gemini

Jet Force Gemini U.S. N64 box cover

Jet Force Gemini was a 3rd person shooter with several noticable aspects. First of all was the concept. You played as three interstellar peace keapers known as Jet Force Gemini. You are sent to a planet populated by small 3 foot bears similar to Ewoks from Star Wars who are under attack by a army of insects and its up to you to kill everything in your path. And kill you will. With weapons such as the Plasma Shotgun, Throwing Stars and a electric pulse wave you will fight through wave after wave of the insectoid menace who upon being shot will explode in a burst of neon colored blood. Plus you get to play as a dog with a gun straped to his back and rockets in his feet.

Illusion Of Gaia.

Box art for Illusion of Gaia

Now this one is a little different. Illusion Of Gaia is a Zelda type RPG. Its also one of the first games that made me want to cry. I was 14 when I beat this game for the first time and this game's story although not the best ever dealt with some pretty dark stuff. It takes place in a alternate version of earth where the continents are much different. The main character is a young boy named will who has psychic powers and can move objects. Will lost his father a long time ago and through a series of events is forced to leave his hometown and venture across the earth for a multitude of reasons. The game takes you to such places as the Incan Ruins and the Great Wall Of China. It also dealt with themes such as Loss, Slavery, Nature and Death.

Condemned Criminal Origins.

THIS GAME IS JACKED UP. PLAY IT YOU FIGHT HOBOS WITH 2X4'S! With a chilling story and constantly tense atmosphere Condemned Criminal Origins is a survival horror game with a focus on melee combat. This game's oppressive darkness and envirorments create a sense of isolation. Although the controls have some problems. The game is short but has tight pacing and ends on a high note. With plenty of scares and unique gameplay Condemned is easy to recomend.

Killer 7

File:Killer7boxnew.jpg

THIS GAME IS AMAZING! Absolutley packed full of vicreal gameplay Killer 7 is a thriller unlike any game I've ever played. This cel shaded game can be quite scary or disturbing in parts and coupled with a great soundtrack and gameplay this game is a must play although its not for everyone. Part old school Resident Evil part Rail Shooter this game is truly one of a kind surrealistic masterpiece.

Your turn.

Freelancer. Best game ever, in my opinion, and I feel like no one's played it. I also appreciate some Simulation games that many haven't heard of.

TimeSplitters. I see people on GS talk about it, but I have not met a single person in real life who knew about it. Siren. Although the voice is is terrible, the game is quite fun. I enjoy horror games that rely on stealth.. makes the game much more spookier.

I will just post three games.

The Neverhood:

I like how it uses claymotion animation, and it was just funny. Very enjoyable game from what I remember.

Bangai-O Spirits:

Yeah this game can have some major slowdowns when you got like around 100s of missiles coming at you, but it was still a blast, and the level editor was great.

King Kong:

Easily the best movie based game I played. Despite being short, the game has some amazing atmosphere, interesting gameplay, and great graphics and audio.

  • Sacred 2: Fallen Angel - I thought the game was excellent, and I very much regret selling it. Sure, it was a little buggy, and you couldn't pause it, and enemies were CONSTANTLY swarming you, but it was addictive and fun as hell.
  • 007: Nightfire - A great FPS with an exciting single player campaign and a crazy awesome multiplayer mode. Very underrated, me and my friends have had endless good times with Nightfire.
  • Star Wars Rogue Leader: Rogue Squadron 2 - It's not very obscure, but I never hear much about it. Even so, it's the best flight game ever made, and next to KOTOR, the best Star Wars game ever made. A fantastic game through and through.

As someone earlier said, Wizardry 8.

The Guilty Gear series. Doesn't get nearly the recognition it deserves.

NFL Blitz. Outrageous arcadey football.

The Armored Core series. While the quality of the new ones is debatable, the first three were amazing.

The Outfit. A fun game (Maybe 360 exclusive, not sure) that nobody played.

Advent Rising. A fun TPS (for lack of a better term) with an awesome story.

Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire. One of the best Star Wars games ever made, imo.

Powerstone series: Great arcadey fighter.

Red Faction 2: Fun gunplay and the multiplayer was great splitscreen on a console. You could even upgrade the bots with skill points the more you used them.

Prey: A great and fresh FPS by Human Head studios and 3D Realms (sniff).

Jet Li: Rise to Honor-- It's not complex, and it got horrible reviews, but damn, I love this game.

Rival Schools: United by Fate-- 2D fighting on a 3D plane. I'm proud to have this game in my collection.

Can't wait to get Shattered Memories (but money is tight right now)

I'll go way back to Legacy of the Ancients on the Commodore 64. I dont know if it stands up today, but I loved it.

And then there is 'The Standing Stones', also for the C64, which became quite crude. It had monsters on the deeper levels that I cannot repeat here without getting modded. And it was distrubuted by EA no less. Even when you mapped the rooms it spelled words that weren't pretty if I remember correctly.

Not many finished the game but i did. The probably didn't expect some nerd to spend so much time.

But I do remember getting attacked by a Moose's private parts to put it kindly.

The best playstation game. It sold I think like 40k and was a huge bomb. But was so awesome, and fun that the game should have sold a billion. At least they made a sequel.

YES! Another Just Cause fan! I need to check these Vidocs out, because this is probably my most anticipated game... (well, besides Mass Effect 2 and Halo: Reach). Just Cause was some of the most fun I've had of the generation. It wasn't perfect, and was light on story, but it was just plain fun! I got every achievement, liberated every settlement, found every collectable, etc.! I love it.

Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone (I don't know if anyone has actually played this, but I think it's a very good hack-and-slash PS2 game) Sly Cooper (this game was overshadowed by Jak and Daxter/Ratchet and Clank, but it was just as fun as the other two) Killer 7 (I love the art style in this game, and it's just really a bit different and very interesting) Rogue Galaxy (Great RPG that not many people seem to have played) Brave Fencer Musashi (Squaresoft had so many overlooked classics during the SNES and PS1 eras that I find it criminally tragic) Parasite Eve (another example; see above) Xenogears (yet another example; see above) Dino Crisis (yep, it was Resident Evil with dinosaurs...and it was fantastic) Dino Crisis 2 (this game arguably was the first game to experiment with what would become the new standard starting with Resident Evil 4) Valkyrie Profile (Enix as a whole was criminally overlooked during the PS1 era) Star Ocean: Second Story (see above)

I don't know if these count as obscure, but everyone should download Cave Story and Canabalt.

I only discovered Cave Story this year, but it's a freeware Metroid-esque adventure. It's being remade for wiiware also, in case you want to wait to play it on a console.

Phantasmagoria! One of my favorite games as a kid, which is pretty surprising considering the shocking amount of gore and the live action rape scene... Jet Force Gemini, Munch's Odyssee and a lot more. Unfortunately, I'm really sleepy right now and I can't remember any more. :P

Jet Force Gemini was a great call. That's one of Rare's worst reviewed games but I thought it was great. I'll nominate Phanton Dust.

The combat in this game is a lot of fun. It's strategic and has a level of customization like a card game or a rpg but the combat plays out in real-time and feels more like a shooter. Multiplayer was a lot of fun as well. Everytime I play a JRPG with real time combat I shake my head and wonder why nobody will just flat out copy what Phantom Dust did.

These two. Blade Runner is my favourite movie based game ever. Bar none. It's ridiculous how that game faded into obscurity, barely anyone knows it exists. Arcanum is probably my favourite RPG of the decade, try it out of possible. I'd also like to add Battleground Europe to the list, I had a ton of fun with that game while I was subscribed.

And speaking of obscure-ass first person adventure games:

To be honest they were kind of bad (certainly not as good as Timelapse), but I have fond memories of them.

Where the hell did this kind of game go? Bring back pre-rendered environments, dammit!

ftm

Lots of fun and incredibly quirky and funny. Remains one of my favorite DS games to date.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth. Still one of my favorite games

Arx Fatalis

Shadow of Rome- Very hard to find these days and a great game

Primal- a bit more popular, but still underrated in my opinion. Still looks great today as well.

The Suffering- The sequel sucked, but the first one is killer

Oddworld" Strangers Wrath- I really Miss Oddworld Inhabitants

Oni from good old Rockstar- Horribly underrated

There are plenty more, but I will end it with one I am playing right now and is quickly becoming one of my favorites- Divinity II: Ego Draconis
