title says it all, I changed my CPU clock speed in the bios from 200mHz to 230 mHz then restarted and now my screen shows nothing. THe lights are still flashing when I turn it on, but the screen shows nothing at all. Ive read from various sources that it would be safe to clock it a few mHz higher, but now theres this problem.

I would really appreciate some help as I have many assignments I need to get from it.

Thanks

Yes its correct to overclock it by a few Mhz higher..NOT 30Mhz higher!! Sounds like you may have killed your CPU. Since nothing shows on your screen, there is no way to access BIOS setup and change it back from 230Mhz to 200Mhz. The only way to get it back to 200Mhz is to open up your case and locate the battery on your motherboard. Use a flathead screwdriver or something similar to get it out. Leave it out for atleast 2 mins, then put it back in. What this does is it resets all your BIOS settings to default. Try this and see if your PC will boot.

You'll have to reset the BIOS to default settings. Most motherboard have a jumper position to do just that. Otherwise you need to take out the CMOS battery like said above.

This is correct, this has happened to me a few times when trying to overclock with past motherboards. The solution was a simple removal of the jumper pin for about 2 seconds and then returning it to it's original position, all went well and was able to boot up normal.

I doubt you've ruined your cpu with that overclock... just do the CMOS reset like everybody says and you should be fine.

There is no way that a 30 mhrtz overclock would mess up your cpu. I have mine pulled up by like 133 mhrtz

Yeah ur CPU probably aint dead. The cmos battery looks like a big circular disc, much like an enlarged watch battery. here is a pic: http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/images/articles/1162142970In1TTYb2s0_2_13_l.jpg

right thanks guys, I removed the CMOS battery like you guys said but still nothing on my screen.

I was wondering, do you have to take the CMOS battery out whilst the pc is running?

no, don't do it when it is running. Unplug your pc, take the battery out, wait a few min, press the power button, put the battery back in, plug computer back in, and then turn on as normal.

No, unplug everything and turn the pc off. Open the case, take the battery out, let it rest for a couple of minutes, then put it back in.

In the manual for your MB, there should be a section some where that lists what your beeps mean. 1 beep = such and such; 2 long beeps followed by 2 short beeps = blah, blah, blah And so on.

You'll see a jumper on the board like this, take it and move it over one and leave it there for acouple seconds then move it back. That'll reset it.

How old is this PC???

If it's something like a Pentium I or II, it's most likely not going to overlcock that well, if at all. Older PC's also didn't have great sensor readings and safety cut offs, so it is pretty likely that you killed it.

Also, a 30mhz OC on a 200mhz system is a 15% OC which is pretty big. If my memory serves me correctly, most OC's are done under the 10% range, and usually use special high end cooling. On the older PC's which ran hot enough on their stock coolers, OC'ing by that much might've very well bricked it.

nah im starting to lose hope, I cant find a jumper switch like that anywhere. Also my pc has a gigabyte P4 titan motherboard.

Does this mean that jumper switch will look different or non-existent at all? And is it located in the same area as shown on that pic?
