Has anyone ever had or heard of this? Perhaps even solved it? Whenever I try to connect my PS3 to the PlayStation Network, I get error code 8001050f.
I still have internet access, my PS3 has an IP address, I can browse the web via the PS3. All that isn't working is the PSN. However the PSN is definitely up and running, because my roommate also has a PS3 and his PSN works fine, we even plugged mine into his connection downstairs and I still got the same problem.
I've eliminated most problems I can think of with the network, I've done a hard reboot of the router, and unplugged the modem for a few minutes. Plus moving my PS3 onto the working connection downstairs should have done the trick if it was a network problem.
I've reset the console default settings about a half-dozen times. (7th time's a charm?)
The only thing I haven't tried is formatting, but I can't risk that because I've been in 2 gamepools and I have almost 30 Playstation Arcade games, none of which I would be able to re-download if I format (we've used all 5 consoles, and I'm pretty sure formatting assigns your PS3 a new ID)
My PS3 is out of warranty as well. If I sent it in for repairs they would likely end up formatting or even give me a new PS3, bringing me back to the problem of losing all my arcade games.
Does anyone have ANY suggestions, no matter how absurd, I'm about willing to try anything here. (save cooking a grilled cheese inside of it as a friend suggested)Kotaku's Story:
All around the world, PlayStation 3 consoles simply aren't working like they're supposed to, with a PlayStation Network error preventing people from not just going online, but from playing some PS3 games offline as well.
From Europe to the Americas to, well, my house in Australia, users are complaining that upon booting their consoles up, they're unable to sign into their accounts, check their trophies or access the PlayStation Network. That's fine, Sony say there are PSN connection problems, and that they are "looking into it".
Problem is, the error does more than just prevent you from going online. It prevents you from playing certain games offline as well. The screen above is what I was greeted with when attempting to play Heavy Rain, and pressing out of it simply reboots the PS3, returning you to the main menu screen. It's the same story for other games that feature dynamic trophy support.
Sony say "stay tuned" for updates on the problem. In turn, we'll update if we hear anything more.
While theories abound that this has something to do with the calendar, bear in mind Sony has redesigned its PlayStation website over the weekend, so it's likely the result of some tinkering under the hood for the PlayStation Network.
Whichever it is, though, you have to wonder at the design process that turns a network outage into something stopping you from playing a game (in my case Heavy Rain) you own, pick up from a shelf and has no online play whatsoever.
This happens to me all the time. All you have to do is just keep on trying. Nothing is wrong with your PS3 if this only happens while trying to get on PSN. Just keep resetting the internet connection on your router. OR try changing or taking off the internet for the PS3 completly and putting it back on.
If all else fails you might have to format your PS3.

[/QUOTE] Ya, I was posting on the Sony forums as well, and general consensus is that formatting won't assaign my PS3 a new ID. Which is what I'm afraid of if I format. Thing is, nobody online seems to have found a solution, I've looked everywhere and most people either don't post their solutions or give up and send it back to Sony for repairs. But I have a 60gig PS3 and I like my backwards compatability. I don't want them to send me a new console :( You can recover all your data, with certain programs.
If you put all your saves onto a flash drive. I don't know if you can do the same with trophies.
But as for your PSN ID you can recover that by just re-entering your login name and password.

i have the exact same prob.
with the trophies u have 2 'sync with server' but 2 do that u have 2 sign in, which is the prob.
so unless u want 2 loose all of ur trophies, i wouldnt restore the system or get it sent away.
ive called the playstation ppl numerous times and they have no idea whats going on.
they said that the supervisor will ring me on monday about it, so i'll post back when i find out wats wrong with it
- Mar 2, 2009 11:25 pm GMTthe ps people said that its a console defect. u can't fix the problem, u have 2 get it sent away and they send u a replacement console, but u have 2 call them about it 1st. make sure u back up everything 1st though, otherwise u'll loose everything! thats the only thing they said you can do about it. they said that if u get it sent away, they send u a console of the same model (40gb, 60gb, 80gb) and same condition as yours

Do any of you have slims? - Feb 28, 2010 4:29 pm GMT
Same thing here. I am glad it is not just me. I just installed some custom themes yesterday via flash and thought they were the problem. I reset the PS3 to factory settings and nothing changed. My dynamic themes are corrupt and I can not play any games that I have purchased from the PSN, or sign in. They all throw this same error code. I can still use my PS3 media player with no problems. Why would this have an effect on previously purchased games? I did not think they had anything to do with being signed in.
- Feb 28, 2010 4:30 pm GMTI just started getting this. It sounds like it's a problem on their end if we're all getting it at the same time on the same day. I have a fat PS3. Found this thread through google, looks like we can expect more people doing the same soon.
- Feb 28, 2010 4:31 pm GMTIm getting the code now. I was playing fine an hour ago and PSN was working.
- Feb 28, 2010 4:31 pm GMT
same thing is happening to me right now
- Feb 28, 2010 4:31 pm GMTI just started getting this too. I have 4 PS3's, three of them are 60gb units. The new Slim model is working fine, but all 3 of the 60gb units are having this code 8001050f. I will post again, if I figure out what the root of the issue is.

CORRECTION: My source was wrong. IGNORE THIS!
- playstation just posted that they are having scheduled maintenance. Hrmm...I wonder if that's just a cover.
