Okay to leave Xbox on overnight?
- Sep 7, 2008 4:35 am GMTSo I got Xbox on Friday, and I've been playing pretty much every waking moment. I checked the power brick and it reads 175W which I thinks means it's a falcon chipset. Anyways, I only have 512kbps internet and 0.5GB can take me 2 1/2 hours to complete. Last night I left it on overnight to download the file. It was left on for about 8 hours idling with no disk in. Is that bad? Or is it only bad when the console has to work to play a game?

- I leave mine on all day and all night sometimes. Ive had my Elite since September 2007 had no problem since. I m not worried about leaving it on. Did you know that in the console settings in the system blade you can set shutdown to enable downloads when your console is switched so you dont have to leave it on.

I guess I'll check that out next time. Oh, and does anyone know if you should take breaks for X time every X hours so the Xbox can cool down or something?

Hrmm when I dont really know anything about the xbox side of taking a break I think every 3 or 4 hours you should stop playing videogames for a few minutes anyway, if even just to read an article in a gaming magazine or play with your pet for a while, then go back to killing your eyes with videogames :p

- Sep 7, 2008 5:31 am GMTyour using the xbox wrong you dont need to leave it on to download stuff. theys a option in the settings blade where you can set your xbox to continue downloading stuff for you while its on standbye. what it does is leave the xbox in a almost off state like standby, it downloads the stuff your after, then when its completely downloaded it switches it off fully. look in the startup or shutdown section of the options for the console and you will find the option. this is much better than leaving it on the dashboard all night downloading.

People who hate Halo = people who suck at Halo.
Waiting for: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Forza 3.
My rig: Gateway Select series: Pentium III 930mhz CPU, Nvidia 5200 FX (upgraded from Intel 82815 integrated graphics), 512MB of RAM (upgraded from 64MB), 80 gig hard drive (upgraded from 20 gig), 250 watt PSU. 7 years and still running

Yes, I'm serious. Don't worry man, a lot of the problems the old 360s had are gone. You don't really need to worry about it overheating much, and the DVD drive isn't going to randomly scratch your disc or anything, provided you don't move the console between vertical and horizontal positions while you're playing a game (they changed the DVD drive back in November 2006. And don't worry about giving your Xbox a break after you play for a while; as long as you don't play for like 24 hours at a time, you should be alright.- Please wait.
