I'm looking for the same thing, but something other than Mass Effect. I want an interesting open world with great side quests that are as much fun and long as the main quest. In my opinion this is what mass effect lacks, the side quests were fun but not deep at all, and the planets usually aren't very diverse, not to mention many enemy bases are re-used again and again.

the best space sim rpgs are : X3 Reunion (this one all patched up now is by far the biggest and baddest), FreeLancer (is more simple and older, but a good buy if you can find a copy), Space Force: Rogue Universe (this one was ok, try the demo) and Darkstar One (I didnt like this one, but you might)... after its all said and done, X3 is the ultimate space sim/rpg atm.

I think this is exactly what I'm looking for, thank you very much .

I looked into it before, but I completely forgot why I didn't buy it, maybe I was a bit turned off by the reviews.

    Again, thank you.

They may be old, but they're awesome classics. Decsent: Freespace, Freespace 2.

Its a shame most people dont know about Parkan 2. Its EXACTLY a space sim game, but you can also have FPS battles on the ground.
