NAT issues (oh the fun)
- May 6, 2008 11:45 am GMT
So I've had a strict NAT (Network Address Translation for those of you who dont know) for a while now, and now GTA 4's come along I've noticed I just can't join any game without being booted out for some stupid reason which I know is related to my NAT. I have experienced this for a while, but the GTA multiplayer seems the most effected. Anyway, any chance you can help me get it to "Open" so I can go play some multiplayer :)
Here's my all-important setup: My desktop connected via WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network), or "wireless", to my BT home hub. My 360 is then connected to my desktop via an ethernet cable.
Thanks.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

Now Playing - DeathSmiles II X
The only time I have a problem with my NAT is in Halo3, it pops up a message saying matchmaking will be slower. GTA4 has worked flawlessly for me.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

I also use BT Home Hub and I have an open NAT with 2 xboxes (trust me, no easy task). Ensure that your hub software is up to date. Latest version is 6.2.6.E.
Perhaps you need to connect directly to the hub rather than through your laptop. If you have to connect through your laptop then ensure that you port forward the Xbox Live ports on your laptop.

you're probably going to need to hook directly to your router, either with an ethernet cable, or WiFi. When you're going through another device like that(your PC), it may be causing a NAT issue, since the host server is probably having an issue with re-routing the IP packet info through the PC. Normally this will not cause an issue, but with some games, it's going to have an impact. (probably because of security concerns, anti-cheating sub routines, or due to time delay due to the NAT re-routing on your home network)

Ok, so according to this guide site I found, its not an uncommon problem, and theres a guide, but you have to pay for it.... It says something about bridging, and seeing as theres so many knowlegable people here, does any one know how i would go about doing that?
Heres the link to the desciption of what I am trying to accomplish:

^ Out of the 2 setups it shows mine is the top one, except with a desktop in place of the laptop, not that that changes anything.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.
