Does the ps2 games work on the ps3 40gb now?

Just talked to a friend and he said he heard that u now can play ps2 games on the ps3. The problem is i do not have any ps2 games so cant test it. Can anyone confirm it?

No, the 40gb does not have the emulator chip in it. No firmware update will add it, it's an actual chip in the PS3.

The 40 gig is a very stripped down SKU. The software emulation worked on the PAL 60 gig systems and all the 80 gig SKU's but the 40 gig also had the graphics hardware that the other systems had removed. This is why the other systems could use emulator software where the 40 gig couldn't.
