I've had a really terrible starter-pack guitar for a year now. I've played it on and off but never really done anything. But after looking at a few tabs and learning a few riffs - I'm hooked. I signed up for guitar class at my school for next year and at the moment I'm kind of tired of my current guitar. It gets out of tune quickly (after an hour of practice) and the strings are really far away from the guitar on the neck. It sounds completely terrible. I have $325 and my parents can tip me a bit for the good grades.

Which should I get?

Ibanez RG321 Electric Guitar (Mahogany Oil)

or

Fender Standard Floyd Rose Stratocaster Electric Guitar

f

I know the Stratocaster is listed for $500 but I can buy it for cheaper at a local store. I plan to play heavy metal, death metal, black metal, and maybe some occasional Led Zeppelin.

Looks like the Ibanez is in the lead. My friend has a mexi-strat (which I'd have gotten) but it looks like I'm going for the Ibanez. Besides looks and double humbuckers, what's better about it?

I don't think I'll be getting a Floyd Rose. It's going to probably be a mexi-strat which is 200 cheaper. I don't know if it's the same but I've never actually heard it labeled as a Floyd Rose.

If I played guitar (I play bass) then I would get this

Buy BC Rich Kerry King Signature Wartribe
BC Rich Kerry King Signature Wartribe. However out of those that you chose, the Ibanez.

Get the Ibanez.

But really you should try them both out. Bottom line which one looks better means nothing when you are trying to play. Which is more comfortable and feels betters or sounds better should be the one to be chosen.

IF you can you should 'test drive' them both

I've test driven the Fender Strat because my friend has one. I like it very much and it was originally what I was going to buy til I was recommended the Ibanez. I really like how the strings are close to the guitar and an open strum sounds amazing compared to my current guitar. But my friend says the Ibanez has a much more crisp metal sound which I wouldn't mind trying. I'm going to see if a nearby music place has the Ibanez so I can test it out.

Let's try not to base this on looks. Has anyone actually played either of these and can point out their strengths and weaknesses?

If my roommate was up, I'm sure he could answer you. But I don't know much about guitars.

But I will tell you that he prefers Ibanez a lot over Fender and he plays mostly metal.

If you are going to play metal, get the Ibanez it will give you the nicer tone for metal because of the the humbuckers. It will give a more thick, crunchy tone, good for metal.

I'm reffering to the floyd rose bridge on the Fender you linked.

Two completely different guitars, what do you want to play?

I'm a fan of both brands, but I'm leaning towards Ibanez

The Ibanez would be the better choice for that music. The single-coils just don't cut it for metal.

If you're into metal, get the Ibanez. My Ibanez sounds awesome when I play metal. Of course, my amp has something to do with it, but still. Plus, playing rock/blues will still sound wicked.

I imagine the Strat is cheaper, and it's a very, very good guitar for the money. I have one. Gotta admit I've never used an Ibanex at all, but if it's what Omar Rodriguez Lopez uses, it's gotta be all right.

Well. I went to 3 different guitar shops in Seattle (all the biggest ones I knew of). None of them had that particular Ibanez. But at Guitar Center, they had one last mexi-strat left (new). It turns out it was a fat strat. I didn't feel like waiting a week for online shipping for picking it up. Regardless, this is my first guitar and it should suffice. My AMP is terrible right now and it'll be my next upgrade. Any good Amps for metal? Perhaps it could provide a crunchier sound supposedly not provided with my guitar?

If you're playing metal, than probably the Ibanez, or a sold body Gibson Les Paul.

Ibanez.

They tend to use hotter pickups and give you a nice cruchy metal sound.

I have an Ibanez with double humbuckers. It does sound great for metal.
