Hey quick question, which Video Card is better? NVIDIA GeForce 8400GS 256MB or my current one 6800 GS 256mb for medium to high gaming.

Thanks.

the 8400GS has better performance but really you should wait and save your money because theres no point in buying it for gaming as it isn't intended for it.

6800GS has a 256-bit memory interface compared to the 8400GS craptastic 64-bit, would stick with the 6800GS until you have enough money for the newer better cards

6800GS destroys it, if you are looking to upgrade get the 8600GT or higher

6800 GS. The 8400 isn't even a gaming card. What are some of you guys saying? Can the 8400 run Half Life 2, Far Cry, or Doom 3 maxed out like the 6800 can? I don't think so.

I suggest getting the 8600GT if you are looking for a budget gaming card. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130085 After mail-in rebate, comes to about 75 bucks.... not a bad deal.

This is the same card at a slight increased price, but overclocked from the factory.... you can achieve the same numbers from the cheaper card, though.... But the in-store warranty is better on the more expensive card.... go figure.... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130311 Being that it's only 10 bucks more, and has the better in-store warranty.... probably better just to get this one, I guess.

actually in the case of Half life2 it can run it maxed out at the same res as the 6800GS remember the 6800gs is only max 500 points more 3dmark 06..

Well, the fact remains that the 6800 is the faster card. He would be downgrading if he got the 8400.

I'm pretty sure the 6800gs is quite a bit better. for medium to high you would want a 7900/8600 or better. the hd3850 is a great cheap midrange card and the 8800gs is also great value. "upgarding" to the 8400gs is a waste of money

well it mite run them maex out but a 6800 runs them with close to 3x the frame rate. the 8400gs can't even run oblivion in double digit frame rates

how much ram you got now? don't buy that 8400gs if you have the 6800gs. 2gb over 1gb makes quite a difference but 3gb is a waste even on most highend system with xp

Ok well it seems that some people here say the 8400GS is better than the 6800GS. well youre dead wrong. as in one allready stated the 8400GS has a 64-bit memory bus witch was good about 10 years ago (est) plus from what i have seen most 8400GS's are hypermemory meaning they take from youre auctuall system ram! you would be better off getting another gig of ram and overclocking that ol 2.7GHz to atleast 3GHz (make shure its stable)

6800GS is better, but they are both bad for today's games.

6800GS........but like a few others have said.....there's no point in upgrading until nVidia's 9000 series comes out.
