If they're willing to buy a game for you, but don't want it to be filled with blood and gore, explain to them that you aren't fighting or killing people, but instead, you're fighting against an alien menace bent on destrying humanity. You don't kill people in Halo, you kill aliens.
Are your parents leary of it because it's a First Person Shooter and so many wack-job idiot "wah mom never loved me enough" kids went shooting up their schools and in some cases evidence shows that some of those kids played alot of FPS's? Because honestly, that's an understandable fear for your parents to have, if that's the case.
But really... tell them that they're stripping you of your childhood. If that doesn't work... tell them you'll watch the news instead, that's always more violent than video games.
Edit: Get Assassin's Creed. You could never get a wrist blade and kill more than 1 person. A gun would enable at least 2 deaths. Therefore to minimize your future murders, play AC.
Theres almost no blood, theres no swearing, no sexuality. Come to think of it how the hell did Halo ever get an M rating. Someone should really talk to the ESRB cause thats pretty dumb come to think of it.
Get Gears of War instead. Tell them they were right for not letting you get Halo 3, and that GoW is like dumbed down version(violence wise) of Halo 3. GoW is better anyway.

You could try to convince your parents to let you rent the game so they can see it and pass judgement first hand instead of just going but what they read/hear. More than likely once your parents see the game they'll realize it isnt that bad.

I know how that goes... how old r u?.. ur parents need to take a leap out of being overprotective. Halo isn't even graphic... its just got some colorful pictures and a few guns... you see more violence on CNN on a daily basis

wow.... the ONLY reason i agree is b/c i can't stand little 5 year olds on Live. But besides that I think that parents need to let their children live their lives, and not shelter them
The game is so hard to beat that they will not have to buy another game for a long time and the game will give you perserverance plus it's the top 10 games right now
I'm not a 5 year old on live, I'm 15 and never trash talk, unless people start cursing at me.
