Best Empire Building RTS you have ever played?
- Oct 1, 2007 1:30 pm GMT
Just wanted to know if there's any good Empire building RTS out there.
I've tried The Settlers and Age of Empires 3 (demo) and they are both pretty good but Age of Empires just doesn't catch my attention for some reason.
P.S. Should I try the full version of AoE3?

Age Of Empire Rise Of Rome is the best RTS game I've ever played but it's very OLD.
Also I like C&C3 TW but that game is Modern

No. You're on the right track playing demos. If you don't like AoE 3 then don't buy it. Simple as that. The market for RTS games has changed over the years. They have made more games now that you dosen't focus on building a base as much. Now they want you to explore more and fight more. Which results in less bulidling empires and more on fighting. Which is good for some, but not for others.
I suggest you check out:
Rise of Nations Series
Battle for Middle earth 2
C & C Generals

AoE is probably the best RTS I've ever played, and ever will play. Dawn of War is also a pretty good one
Also DoW: Dark Crusade is another good RTS that will possibly catch my attention more then AoE did, but that's a big shoe to fill.

When in Rome, do as the romans do.
When in Sparta scream, "This is Sparta!!!!"
Rise of Nations, hands down.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.
- Age of Mythology and AOEII. AOE3 is good, but if you don't like AOM or AOEII you won't like it.

My favorite of all time is Age of Empires 2, but it's a bit outdated by now... Rise of Nations fills in the blank nicely, and Rise of Legends I liked a lot less than RoN. Besides that, most of the Total War games I've loved... though if you want pure real-time, you might not like the turn-based Risk half of the game. I actually much preferred that.- Please wait. or Rise of Nations (for the "build up resorces and have your little doodies fight it out" type RTS.)

In Medieval Total War 2, the agents (spies, assasins & merchants especially) are fun to play with in the turn based 'Risk' portion of the map.
M2 Total War gets my vote.

If you want a good series, i would suggest the rise of nations/rise of legends, another good series are the total war games. as far as empire building goes. They are not Pure RTS but more rts/tb hybreds.
