I am here to inform you that those of you that have a "faulty" Wii may not. I have talked to someone today about the Wii (he got his, I have mine, but can't open it until Dec. 25. Doh.) and I noticed he had some of the same problems as read about on here, but he knew how to fix them, because he did something that little people on here care to do - READ THE MANUAL! Here are some problems, and how they aren't problems at all. I will add more to this list as I come across them.

    I. Disk Read Error
Problem: The Wii won't read the disks.
Solution: Don't worry, this isn't the PS2 epidemic all over again! You MOST LIKELY put your disk in upside down! It seems to be a common error, as my friend said he, too, did it. Eject it, and put it in the right way, which is the label of the disk facing the skinnier side of the Wii. If you don't understand that, then consult your MANUAL!

    II. Controllers will not Sync
Problem: You can not get your controllers to sync properly.
Solution: No worries! Here is the correct way to do it! Open the battery cover, and hit the "Sync" button on the remote. Lights on the front of the controller will blink. Then, find the "Sync" button on the Wii and push that in. DO NOT PUSH BOTH IN AT THE SAME TIME. Then, the controller will indicate whether it is #2-4. Do this same process over again for any other controllers, but do not try to do it to multiple controllers at the same time. Patience!

III. Wii not turning on (Credited to: MattSayers)
Problem: Power on the Wii turns on for a second, then right back off.
Solution: The AC adapter has a trip switch to prevent power surges, so unplug it from the wall for 2-5 minutes, then plug it back in and it should work!

IV. Slow downloads or error during connecting (Credited to: Hadoken_Kid)
Problem: You are either getting very slow downloads or can't connect at all.
Solution: Switch the channel on your router to either 1 or 11.

    V. Blue light around disk drive does not stay on
Problem: The blue light around the disk drive just blinks when turned on, but doesn't stay on.
Solution: This is SUPPOSED to happen. You will get a constantly glowing light when you receive an update or message via WiiConnect24.

VI. Wii asks you for start-up disk (Credited to: Fathern8092)
Problem: When first starting up your Wii, it asks you for a start up disk, which you do not have.
Solution: You are going to have to call Nintendo, since they accidentally sent you a "demo" system that was sent to stores like Gamestop.

    VII. WiiConnect Errors
Problem: When trying to connect to the Wii's online service you receive a WiiConnect error, with a 5 or 6 digit error code.
Solution: Visit Nintendo's Customer Service Site, and enter the error code. For several of them it will most likely prompt you to call them (and potentially get a new system).

    VIII. Artifacts on screen

Problem: Video is riddled with artifacts and video interference.

Soultion: Try another cable, if not contact Nintendo Customer Service for a replacement or service agreement.

I WILL ADD MORE PROBLEMS AS I COME ACROSS THEM!

Let me know if you have any problems and solutions! I will add them here!

No, no, no, do not bump or rotate this thread during use, as doing so can scratch or damage the posts.

I simply made the thread for the people who have these simple problems that they can't figure out. As to the freezing, I think that is a Hardware problem.

Me and a friend got a wii at launch after waiting 16 hours and when we brought them home......his didn't work.  The power would come on and quickly turn off in a split second.  After calling help and support we found out that the AC adapter contains a trip switch to prevent power surges.  If this is happening to you simply unplug the adapter and wait 2-5 minutes.  plug it back in and it should work.  Hope this helps someone.
