Yeah i agree with most of you about the remake of FF7, however I think there should be some major changes that could definitely create an even better experience than before.
1. The first change should be camera view. Last time the camera was controlled from the top, sometime it wasn't but I think this time (if they made a remake) it should be 3D third person game. This should add some some spice when walking around the area, seeing things that you couldn't see before.
2. The other thing is creating a different type of game play. I'm sorry FF fans but the turn based combat is eventually going to fade away and it should finally end with this game. I think a real-time fighitng & Magic type of game play would be the most innovative feature that Enix could come up with, especially with FF series.
3. Last time in the game you controlled all characters, however I think you should control Cloud most of the time. The NPC's should act depending on the type of character he/she is. For example, Barret should fight like a tough guy, shooting anything that moves etc. Tiffa, should be hopping around doing martial arts, bouncing off the walls, cartwilling through the fighting area. Or, Aeris could stay behind Cloud(you) casting magic. These are just ideas.
4. Summons should some how be specialized, cutting back on the amount of summons that you could cast. And, what I hated that most of them were useless.Any other ideas guys??!!!
I think they should do the Kingdom Hearts II engine if they did do it in real time, because it is perfect for turn based and real time action RPG fans alike.- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

If they did remake ffvii and they did decide to make the combat system real time, I wouldn't want all the characters to be AI controlled all the time. I think it would be best if they made it secret of manna style where the the player can play as any character but the characters he isnt playing as remain ai controlled... That way there would be possible multiplayer capabilities AND a deeper combat system...
still, I don't know if they should make any big gameplay changes should they decide to remake ffvii...

I think that the final fantasy VII remake should be kept the same except with the summoning style of Final Fantasy X and voices. But everything else is good and should be kept the same especially the system of materia and the emotion that is shown in the original.

In a way it'd be good though, show how they make new tricks with one of their classics.
I'm more found of ffviii than ffvii, yet all of the ff's have their own unique inspriation and compelling attributes.
Well, if they want to re-make ffvii, then they should, I trust they can re-envision something well if they've got the passion and inspiration for it.
Though, when doing so, have a new one in the works also, each one is so intriguingly invigourating to anticipate the wait of.

I LOVE FF7, it introduced me to the RPG genre and since then I've played through 6,8,9,10 and played but not finished many of the other ones. In my opinion 7 is definitly the best one. Forget the garbage that 6 is the best, its not. 6 was great, but 7 is the pinaccle, the epic, the masterpeice.
A remake would be the best idea of all time, because FF7 NEEDS the graphic update, it NEEDS the story to be polished. There are many plot holes and errors that they could fix and make it a much more complete story. Why not relive these great moments. Not only would it be a great idea it would also sell ps3s like crazy. I would buy a PS3 FOR THIS GAME ALONE. COMMON SQUARE MAKE A REMAKE!!

- Aug 17, 2005 3:09 pm GMTI think the possible remake of ff llV should be handled similarly to the way charlie and the chocolate factory was done which was a remake not of the original movie but of the book. a ff llV remake could be a revising of the original content matter and not so much the game itself, that way everyone gets a fresh look at the game while keeping the parts they love.
I'm afraid if I see a modern re-imagination of Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy VII I'd cry. The thing I don't understand about messing around with the story, music, and character design of a game like this is they already got it perfect the first time through, hence their legendary status. There's no way you can re-imagine any portion of this somehow and not piss some people off. I'd prefer a straight modernization in graphics and sound only. Some additional side quests would be cool too, but the core game shouldn't really be changed as it's already exceptional.
And FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T HAVE VOICE ACTING.
EDIT: Also, I loved the Materia system of FFVII. I don't get everyone's beef with it.
I agree. I really don't see the need to change anything. Update the graphics and music and that's it.
And for me, I would prefer that the character models look more cartoony like the original, not the Advent Children version, those work for the movie but as for the game I would much prefer the original version of Cloud and company. While I was impressed with the PS3 tech demo, i was bothered with the character models for Aeris and Cloud, they just didn't have the same style as the original. Give me Cloud from Kingdom Hearts, that would be cool.
For those of you who must tweak the gameplay, at least give those of us who like it the way it is an option to play with the original gameplay rules (kinda like FFI on the Final Fantasy Origins release). And if you must add voice acting, give us the option of turning it on and off if we'd rather read it.
The whole point of a remake is to point out the things that were wrong with the game and change it. Some of the things that were wrong with the game was some oe the plot holes in the story. It wouldve been pretty cool I think if we could fight with Zack in a flashback like we did with Sephiroth in one. I would also like to see voice acting since we are in the time of really evolutionary games in which we dont ahev to read but just listen. In the other hand some people might not agree with that and are the kind to read and not listen, so i agre in an option to turn off and on the voic acting. I dont agree with the more cartooony look, the whole point of the peoples great response to the tech demo of FF7 was its incredible graphics. I also think it would be really good for square to do this because alot of new gamerz has not played FF7 and other FF games in which the graphics were not as tune up as it is now. So my point there would basicalyy be alot of people I think are about the graphics of a game. I took a little survey with family which basically all play video games, and basically alo of them play because of the beautiful graphics, but I have played video games longer than anyone in my family so I have learned to appreciate the old school rpg's.
In conclusion I agree with alot of peoples opnions of a FF7 remake because I truly think it is one of the best rpg's ever, some people could differ but that is my opnion

Exactly my point it would be awesome just to see everyone all tuned up. I would also like to see Gold Saucer all tuned up as well. It would also be nice to have new video games in the video game room in Gold Saucer, I read some where in a forum that it would be cool to see one the characters play DDR which is the dancing game LOL

- I would DEFINATELY buy the remake of FFVII. I am also going to buy PS3 so it would be a nice bundle to get if they did that. Plus just think of all the new FInal Fantasy fans Aquare would get from the remake.

You can tell what I think by reading my comments sent to the Square Enix support. I have the PC version of Final Fantasy VII. I really wrote my heart out! BY THE WAY, if Square Enix remade it, ...
Well i did not beat it yet, i just got it. i accidentally read a DAMN SPOILER that revealed that... sadly, Aeris dies. but i should get over it, in a month or so...... seriously, it emotionally affected me, i had to fight depression. No, i'm serious, it was sad, and depressed me, because i found it out today........ DAMN FORTUNE TELLER CAT! I COULD ASSUME THATS WHAT WOULD HAPPEN AFTER HE SAID I WOULD LOSE SOMETHING DEAR. that was before the F-ING SPOILER. at lease Tifa is still there but Aeris is Aeris... anyway i'm glad that Aeris will be in Advent children, probably as a ghost, but i hope she " resurrects".
IF SQUARE WAS TO REMAKE IT, THE BOTTOM LINE IS THEY SHOULD LET AERIS LIVE IN THE REMAKE. maybe she was a little annoying, but she was the most human-like character, that's what counted to me.
Anyway here is an EDITED version of my email to Square Enix techinical support, with my comments :
___________________________________________________________
I have some comments on the PC game, Final Fantasy 7. These comments are about the storyline, not the "gameplay" or other factors.
The storyline, to me, was breathtaking, and often, the storyline elements and character dialogue made me laugh as well as feel sad. I laughed my guts out at some of the things that occured, other parts I felt like i had to hold back tears that could possible be on their way to assist me in my misery. I normally do not get emotional over games or movies, but this game was different, I felt like Cloud, like I knew Tifa and Aeris, Barret, and everyone else.
I must say, I have NOT beaten the game yet, but accidentally read a spoiler in a Final Fantasy poll that gave away the fact that Aeris/Aerith dies. Is this true? I would like to know... and know if she will be in Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, but I do not know if this is the right place to contact.
The music was amazing, it really controlled your emotions. For example when it shows Cloud and Tifa alone when they were kids. Playing "Tifa's Theme." It was an emotional and important part in the game and absolutely played a role in affecting the perspective of the player.
It was truly a breathtaking game, so far, and it was amazingly done in terms of storyline and realistic character behavior
I'm more of a first person shooter guy and this was the first Final Fantasy game I've ever played, and believe it or not, I didn't even beat it yet, but I got it fairly recently.
You have done a wonderful job on this game and I hope to buy a Play Station 2/3 just to continue playing the series. The PC games were great, in my opinion, hopefully you could release more Final Fantasy games on the PC?
Keep up the good work, no other company can rival Square Enix in terms of storyline and adding a more human and emotional element to the overall game.

So as you can see I am hoping to see Aeris live. in any possible remake, that is. I will not be able to buy a PS2, PS3 or any console, however, but I'd definetley somehow make the money to get them, or get my hands on them elsewhere (say, at a friends house).
IF ANYONE KNOWS IF THERE IS A WAY TO SAVE AERIS IN FINAL FANTASY VII PLEASE TELL ME, I WOULD LITERALLY PAY $30 TO SEE HER LIVE IN THE GAME & MOVIE!
thanks for being a pal and reading this. ;)
i would say " there, my two-pennies worth" but i wrote my heart out here and would not waste it calling my all two pennies, although i could have put more effort into grammar perfection.
Sincerely,
Nightfire

- Aug 17, 2005 6:02 pm GMTAs someone said earlier, if Square were to remake FFVII, I would buy a PS3 for that sole purpose. I've played almost every Final Fantasy, besides X-2, due to what I had heard from others who played it. =P And without a doubt VII was the best. I still find myself playing it once in a while. A remake of probably the best game ever would please an unimaginable amount of people. Square should definitely go through with it.

they should definently remake ffVII but they should also make the battle system different because in some squares other games like kingdom hearts, star ocean, and others they have real time battles but final fantasy is often neglected from having these elements. I think dirge of cerberus is also gonna be real time

Your second & third Idea though, what do you mean? Do you mean you want the battle system to work more like that of how Tales of Symphonia's battle system worked? Because that would be a cool new way of doing it, but would be a pretty drastic change. Maybe for the worst over all. We'll just have to wait and see.
Archangel, What I mean by a new battle system is to get rid of the turn based action that has been part of FF series. I'm saying to reinvent the battle system to a real time engine. I'm not sure what Tales of Symphonia is but I'm saying that the player should control cloud using 3rd person view, and each other character such as aeris, barret, sid should act according to their personalities. And, the player should control the AI tactics, are you getting me?
Yeah, ok, I hear you. That's basically how the game I mentioned earlier worked (Tales of Symphonia). Yeah, that would be pretty cool new way to work the battle system in FFVII.
- Please wait. Quick reply will be available shortly.

The combat system was average, but in my opinion average is superb, at least for FFVII. Only more real-time modifications to the combat system is needed, but a major update in graphics as well, but NOT characters. a cartoonish style should be maintained somewhat, to make them look like they did in the fighting scenes of the original FFVII. If they look realistic that would take an element of the story away - the humor. the humor was clean and good, i personally saw nothing wrong with it. But seeing more realistic characters, a destroyed playground... with Avalanche in it would be ridiculous. (RIIIGHT?)It was an amazing game overall, at least so far, i have to beat it before the 13th now, i thought it would be the 14th! i have 1 day less and am only half-way through the game!!!
Anyway, if i can afford it i will buy a PS3 just for a POSSIBLE final fantasy VII remake... however the only consoles i own are Sega Genesis and NES. I'm glad to have my average PC.

Hey thanks for the double-post, here's mine. Just kidding, but it is a double-post.
anyway sorry for the double post, but another comment, ON THE MUSIC. the music should be totally revamped and modified, performed by an orchestra, not MIDI-style like FFVII. voice actors would really add to the personal experience, however, and i would enjoy that. The fact that you would have to guess many things in the game about characters was really intriguing and i enjoyed it. Finding out that many people were killed by a "man with a gun-arm" was shocking to me, i found it out today, but it turns out it was not Barret, it was ... guess who, i forgot, damn. Already. Anyway that was the kind of thing that made FFVII one of the best games i've ever played, and only the 4th RPG. the first was Diablo II, which i played at a friend's house. The second was KOTOR, which I own. the third is Anarchy Online, an MMO, currently free until january 15th lol, and maybe forever. anyway i'm not advertising, back to the topic.
The music, for example, the Piano Collection of FFVII and FFX and FFX-2 were great. i never played any ot them (although i got to touch a controller of a PS2 with FFX while no one was looking lol) Really other than that the music is... perfect, and adds to the mood. Whether sad, happy, excited, nervous or angry, "music can tame the most wild of beasts" and can create Frankenstein, eh?
My 2-pennies worth,
Nightfire
