All TUGOWU members are allowed to post here. Discussions on Speedruns are to be the focus. Be it assistance with one, progress reports, completion time reporting, tactics/tips submitting, discussions about the accepted max completion time, rules, etc. Only TUGOWU members are included in the list of runners *so no ballofsnow* although good runners are always figured into this thread.

Members that have announced interest/intention to do one, have started one/are working on one *pending* and completed runs *even if they don't qualify* will be listed so long as Speedrunning was the intention behind the playthrough. These rules will be further fleshed out as this thread develops.

RULES
-In GoW, the speedrun ends at the "Olympus" save point. For a God Mode NUR/NUR+it ends atthe "Final Battle" save point.

-In GoWII, it ends after Zeus, at "The Loom Chamber" save point. *when it is crumbling*

-CoO lacks a save AFTER Persephone as well as a way to see a final time. I need assistance with figuring a way to deal with this situation. For now we can't post specific 'final times' that aren't just guesswork.  The case is the same for GoS if I'm not mistaken. GoWIII does this too in that there is no final save aside from the one before Zeus S2.

-Urn/Possession usage creates its own run type. I'll have to cover this in the future.

-We will be accepting certain costume runs in the future. It could be awhile before I figure out how I should handle this.

-Only times that stay below or tie *strictly* with the maximum time accepted will be included as completed runs.

-Runs that do not succeed at the above will be marked as "timed out" until the run is done successfuly

-A runner does not have to continue working on a run that "timed out" but if they succeed, their new run will replace it

-Only the user best time of the specific run type is kept while lesser runs are replaced

-"fairplay" runs do not use major exploits/unnatural skips. This will need to be elaborated on.

-We are currently working on times for non-fair play conditions.
Tags

NUR-Speed-Run-Veteran.gif

NUR-Vet.gif

Speed-Run-Veteren.gif

-The tags associated with being a "TUGOWU Speedrun veteran","TUGOWU NUR veteran"and "TUGOWU Speedrun/NUR veteran" require that you have completed those runs with success. If you only have "pending" and/or "timed out" runs for Speedrun/NUR you are not awarded these tags. curlfro will administer punishment for offenders of this rule.

Brief Definition

Speedrun: Completing the game/run in the fastest amount of time possible.

GoWIII Very Hard - 05:00:00 --- 03:00:00
NOTE: The times listed for GoW1 are finalized basically.  GoWII might need re-evaluation.  CoO was just made up on the spot.  GoS copies CoO.  GoWIII copies GoWII.  GoW:A copies GoW1.  These times are pulled form thin air and need input.  Besides this, we should discuss whether we have special considerations (alternate deadlines) for certain variants of these settings like with using each costume, NG+/BP, possessions/urns on, etc.  Or maybe just leaving them be and having people do Easy with 'super costume' and possessions/urns *if an option*.  AR MAX allowed as well? PS3 versions of PS2/PSP games?

Seems that's another thing I'll have to look through.  Perhaps you could post suggestion about time changes for GoWII?  I'll have to see what applies after that.

I'll try to get to the CoO topic again soon.  Been making progress around it and in it, but not to a notable degree.  The bestiary and scans await.  Then on to GoS (followed by GoWIII and eventually GoW:A).  GoW:A Comprehensive...with how limited the information has been, I might not have to say much.  Silver Lining in all their blundering.

I fear GoW A will amount to no more than how casually it will take to get the plat. I am afraid that Pappy will soon say, your weapons will automatically upgrade.

>automatically upgrade

And with 'use' no less.  But seriously, I odn't see that happening, but it might take less orbs to MAX each so one can more easily get MAX of everything upon getting it.

>even easier trophies

Based on Papy's handling thus far, perhaps so.  For every good idea, there seems to be two bad ones.

I would think that Todd Pappy would do much better than all the others seeing as how he's been on the GoW team since the beginning.

So was Stig.  Barlog was the only exception to the failure rule (he was hand picked by Jaffe to continue).

And it may very well be the case with Papy.  We shall see.  I just hope we don't get stun locked with off-screen attacks and grabs scaled to Armor %.

That worries me little. I'm fearing the worst now. like I said, auto upgrade once orbs are filled, we already know of auto rage. i'm afraid all the bonus costumes will deal massive damage and super armor. This entry just seems to be shaping up to be a casual clusterf***.

Franchise: >various fears

All well founded.

gent: >irony

None, sir.  For as it happens, such things concern speedrunners as well in the given case of a glitch using it and one not being able to utilize it for skips as has been done in past entries.

'Rage' can be part of exploits/glitches and speedrun tactics (as it has been in the past).  GoW1 had some solid examples of this.  As such, it isn't OT when considered for GoW:A running (potential).

I'll wait on Findlestick before getting back to this.  I'd rather finish up scanning the CoO guide for pictures to use in Tactics/Tips.  You lads have any 'tough fights' to note for that entry?  Any tactics to suggest?  You know the drill.

So we're all in agreement that CoO pretty much has no noteworthy fights then?  I suppose that just leaves me with scanning to do.  I'm much too blind for that at the moment.  This double vision and flurriness is making it a real bother to even make rounds.

The final point in a speedrun of GoW II, final save after Zeus as the place is crumbling... I take that this doesn't include having to go pull the threads? If so, it's a nice and neutral finishing point for a run's timing because it works for both normal and glitched (jumping over the mirror) completions.

While it's true that normally you can't get to menu to see your time or save at the finale of GoW III, at least in a glitched run you can load an auto-save from the point on where Kratos regains "hope" and visiting menu becomes possible. I think Findlestick did the timing in his GoW III run so that he checked the time from the menu at the very last prompt of the game.

That's what I prefer to go with anyway.

How I love it.  GoW1 spoiled us with a save pretty much at the end proper.  Did GoWII note final time in the breakdown for 'rank'?  I forget.  Probably not.  That's a shame too.

I have done GoWII at easy in 4:45. Is this considered as speedrun? I wasn't really hoping that it would be a speedrun, However I didn't skip fights, perhaps that wasted quiet time.

I received this message recently on twitter (it was a PM sent in segments):

"Hey findlestick/nanospheres ^^ i'm exe from germany and i plan to speedrun GoW 3 NG+. You are an expert in this games and maybe you can help me to get into this? It will be very cool, because i've some questions."

He's yet to ask me any questions, one of his practice runs can be seen here:

http://www.twitch.tv/exe_de/b/487931284

I need to link him our glitch FAQ, since he seems to struggle with how some of the skips work, and he struggles getting optimum height with "sorrow jump". All with practice I suppose.

I see. VH?

>questions

I sure hope your efforts aren't in vain, but one can't always know that going into these things.

>twitch

I'll see about checking into this later.

>Glitch FAQ

I imagine that and the playlist for GoWIII glitches/exploits should help. Don't know how much combat aid he would need like that. He going unpatched or what? NG+ in GoWIII usually refers to the glitch, but could also just mean using the silly trinkets. I'm guessing he means the glitch (so he can start with most things).

>VH?

Easy NG+

>questions

>hope efforts aren't in vain

I often get similar messages, but usually followed by nothing more coming from it. This guy has - at least - made a start, albeit a somewhat sloppy one (practice will help).

>twitch

>checking later

Expect to feel frustrated while watching (I skipped through a lot of the skip-struggles). The actual run starts at about 16 minutes.

>Glitch FAQ

>playlist for GoWIII glitches/exploits

That would help too. Since I can tell that he's using my run as him main reference, but he struggles getting my swimming version at Hades. He should use satvara's version, since it's much easier to do and understand (tho it's a few seconds slower).

>how much combat aid

>he would need

NG+ = spam Cestus Roar,

>unpatched or what?

Yeah, unpatched. Forgot if he used the trinkets.

>Easy NG+

>Easy

"Fine, fine, fine." - Evil Ash

>made a start

I recall a GoWII runner that AKheon helped out. I wonder if the results will be similar.

>lots of skipping through

Sounds like a wild, exciting time.

>should use tactics that his abilities can handle

Sounds about right.

>NG+
>Cestus Roar

Being that you denote "Easy", I suppose so (like AQ for GoWII).

>unpatched

Of course.

>trinkets

If he's making combat such a joke for himself already, why not go the distance, eh?
