Because they are going to make god of war 3 for the PS3. The creators already said they won't make a god of war game on the PS3 until god of war 3. That is why they are making god of war 2Â for the PS2. They didn't say what the exact reason was.
It has already been announced that the reason God of War II is on the PS2 and not coming to the PS3 is because David Jaffe and his crew already know the in's and out's of the PS2's technology. Instead of possibly messing the game up on the PS3 because they wouldn't know too much of the consoles technology, they decided to make GOW2 on the PS2.
My guess is that God of War III will be on the PS3 some time in 2008.
Cory Barlog and David Jaffee, both stated that if GOW II does well, then they will do more God of War games, which most likely they will and those will be on PS3.
The other reason I heard it was staying on the PS2 was because they wanted to make the GOW fans happy. By releasing the sequel on the PS2 it is more accessible to the fans. It went something like that. Â
they did that because when god of war 2 comes out more people will have a ps2 than a ps3, so they are realsing it on the ps2 to make more money and give the ps2 owners a good game on the ps2 after the ps3 comes out

there is a problem with that statement GoW I was worked on for 3 years and came out in 2005 GoW II is coming out in 2007 it took them 2 years to make that one and thats just because they had an engine already made. If /When they switch to the the PS3 it will take them at least 3-4 years to come out with GoW III because A.They would have to build a new engine from scratch and can you say next gen Kratose (Time eater)
