I've downloaded this game yesterday and done my first hard run(6 deaths 5 healing chests). And I've started my first VH run(vanilla), I will try as much as I can not to take healing chests(so that I won't get my ass kicked at PAIN+). I've already finished the Temple of Helios with 1 healing chests, also 3 death till now. I'll try to finish this run today to start NUR+ tomorrow. Then I'll get to PAIN+ and then i would return to GoS PAIN+ recording(stopped till The Flooded Hall).

^How about that GMG? Are you proud? By the wa, the last time I played this game was three years ago and I've finished it only two times and one of them was on vanilla VH, so I can't remember anything, I can barely remember the environments. Also I hadn't done NUR+ on any entry before. I could barely beat them on vanilla.

I'd rather you learned your options with MAX before going straight for PAIN+.  That's more how Hotel likes to do business.  Also: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKcMxsoNijY

>NUR+ tomorrow

Better than skipping straight to the top.  You going to put that Guantlet (and CW) to work a bit?

Yes.

>Gaunlet

That would make things much easier. It's like the BH in GoWII but faster and you could roll with it.

>CW

No, I would prefer the Efreet. Also I need to say good bye to Helios Shield before getting to PAIN+.

>much easier

And still somehow an understatement.  The GoZ truly was a difference maker.  Big damage, strong stuns, good moveset, decent speed, etc.  Not the best on reach, but you can't have everything.

>prefer Efreet

Heresy.  MP inefficient.  Still, both are better than LoD.  Utter trash.

>underestimate

No, I've done my vanilla VH from a couple minutes ago. Less than 10 death and only one healing chest. By the time NUR+ is done, PAIN+ wouldn't be tough.

I will say something that isn't related to the topic. The first time I played GoWIII at hard mode, it was pretty tough, then the next time I played it on vanilla VH, it was really tough. Then I played it once again on vanilla VH and it was a miracle, I finished more than half of the game without any problem, I even doubted that it was Chaos mode so I started it's NUR+. The same thing happened with GoW:GoS but it wasn't as tough as GoWIII because I was already a PAIN+ veteran. I guess when I start my NUR+ tomorrow, I won't have any problems.

I said "understatement" with regards to the notation of GoZ making things easier.  This is to say that still doesn't do justice just how game breaking it tends to be.

A sign of things to come.

Now, onto the serious business. Today, I started my NUR+ and I've reached the Caves of Olympus, actually till now I'm playing on PAIN+ conditions. But that won't last for so long. Without taking chests and breaking objects to get EXP saves you a lot of time, it saved me 20 minutes till now(or less becuase I already know the game so I won't spend a lot of time).

>serious business

Everyone's favorite.

>CoO NUR+

>PAIN+ to this point

Not like most of the tools you get to this point are worth using.  You enjoying all the air OS, OS and OH infinities up to this point?  Exciting, wild stuff to do over and over again.  Sure would have been nice to have more ring-outs (than one area), environmental hazards (on foes), friendly fire, etc.  You know, give us more options with basics.  The occassional chip with t0/t3 almost feels fresh.  Having collisions as in GoW1/GoWII sure would have been swell to make Valor a bit more worth noting, wouldn't you agree?  Making spells scale with Power % was a mistake.  At least they didn't make the GoS mistake of having enemy grabs scale with our Armor %.  Also the business with off-screen attacks, locks on us, i-frames ending before recovery finishes, attacked out of i-frames, etc.  Great game design in that entry.

>no options worth using in this point

When I said PAIN+, I meant without taking healing chests. Now I'm at the Pit of Tarturas just before the Temple of The Gods. Just when I get GoZ.....

>infinites

Of course.

>having collisions would be better

You mean with OH? It would be indeed.

>small battle grounds, close camera

Yeah, but at CoO the battle grounds aren't too small, camera isn't too close and enemies don't have a wide range attack as with GoS.

>I-frames ending before recovery finishes

That happens at GoS only, when I grab an enemy, before the grab finishes I hold L1 and I get hit.

>Great game design in that entry

GoS is better.

>without taking healing chests

Yes.  Taking damage would only be somewhat troublesome maybe with a slip up against nonsense here and there as with the Satyr Grendiers or something like that.  Maybe.

>when you get GoZ

As the kids say, "gg".

>with OH

Now we're talking i-frames to go along with them.  Aside from when petrification ingores those i-frames as with the Gorgon head traps.

>small battle ground/close camera

What's all this?  I went on about off-screen attacks from GoS.  The only camera issue I would readily cite comes from GoW:A with the far away shots.  It's not an issue of size, but ignoring whether they're on camera or not.

>GoS only

Not so.  GoW:A makes this error here and there too.  Even has some moves that fail to exhibit i-frames across all attacks as with the Electric rage dump.  Terrible.

>GoS is better

And yet it still has worse game design issues.  CoO is just too simple/bland.  Not riddled with bad calls.  GoW:A is both of these things.

>off-screen attacks in GoS

It happens at CoO but only with the Cused Remains(I'm not sure about it's name).

>GoW:A makes this error

I was talking reagrding the entries I played.

>worse game design issues

No, it doesn't. CoO has a very big issue about blocking, after you finish blocking you need to move before you can attack, also forced locks are too silly to do(I realized that with the Gorgons).

>CoO Cursed Remains

GoS had a foe by this name.  I can't readily recall a foe that did this in CoO.  Description to jog the old memory?

>entries played

Ah, yes.  You've not had the pleasure yet.

>very big block issue

Not as big as GoW:A.

>forced locks are too silly

They worked on the PSP at a high price (risking a game crash).

Back to my run progress. I've finished my NUR+ from some minutes ago. 1 healing chest, no magic, but used GoZ a lot. I'm ready for a PAIN+ run. But I won't do it tomorrow, I've been repeating this game for three days, that's enough. Also I wanna ask you something. You said that Persephone S2 PAIN+ gets an asterisk, also you said that you get killed with one hit only. AFter playing this game at NUR+, I figured out that you can't beat S2 without SH and that there is an attack that kills you with three hits. But S1 is long and non of the attacks are blockable, and you die with one hit only. So my question was, which one gets an asterisk? S1 or S2? Also S2 attacks are easy to dodge.

>one hit only

Nearly so.  It wouldn't be the case if they didn't force damage on us at the start.

>can't beat S2 without SH

You only need it when the circle comes up for the QTE.

>S1 is long

Not as long as S2.

>which one

Just S2.  S1 isn't sufficiently hard even in PAIN+.  It's just a challenge.  Not an unreasonable spike.

>not blockable

Parry is allowed.  Just not counters.

>easy to dodge

Keep it up for 15 minutes while taking her up on tiny openings for chip.

Yeah, I've watched Taz's video completely, When I first saw it I though that at he will continue chipping her whole health in S1, but then I watched it once again with S2 and knew that S2 is the point, but I think it's much easier than the clones.

Still the only one for that if I'm not mistaken.

>I think

You only say that because it IS much easier than the Clones.  Just far harder than the rest of the run and sufficiently bothersome to get a vote for special recognition.  Only on PAIN+ (where Clones get it for NUR and higher) though.

So did Persehone S2 get an asterisk because it's harder than the rest of the run, but not harder than some parts at other entries, or it's because only couple users could do it(like the clone war)?

Much harder.

>not harder than some parts of other entries

It's harder than most parts of other entries regarding the 'accepted' (recognized) runs.

>only a couple users could do it

Or would bother (at least).  It's sort of bait in that regard.  Come and get you some glory if you dare.

Long story short, if you want to know why it's asterisked, just try to do it.

The difficulty is in the marathon nature of the the fight instead of the up-front difficulty of the clones, but there's no denying that it is still a huge jump in difficulty compared to the rest of the run.

Asterisks don't get compared to each other, they get compared to the rest of the game that they are in.

Back to my run progress, I've started PAIN+ today but I'm not excited as I was in my NUR+, my performance is awful and I have no patience, I could barely make it to the Temple of Helios(That's were I stopped). I'm not in the mood so I decided to leave it today and continue it tomorrow. I wake up, the sun is shining, and I'm fully enthusiastic.

The start of it?  Should be smooth sailing for the most part.  Very little resistance until Persephone (more notable with S2).  If you're looking for a bit more out of CoO, just do a NGR+ NUR+ and a NBR+ NUR+.  Same for GoS.

I don't mind the foe type, but the handling of them irks me a bit.  Their fire pool bouncing off walls is something quite unlike the norm (not entirely bad, but hard to get used to).  It stickinga round and stun locking for good damage is troublesome too.  I still like them.  I just wish that move had friendly fire as a property.  I'd love them for it.

What's most annoying about the Satyrs with the gernades is that hit with their head, you wait for them to throw the gernades and then you evade, and while you're pressing t they get you.

But you don't sign in the PSN, right?

My run progress:

Yesterday was much better than before, my performance was as great as ever and I managed to do a No Damage Run from the Pits of Tarturas till Charon(I didn't try him yet). Charon is easy but will take a lot of time just like Ares(regardless to the matter of the time itself). No doubt I will finish it today, there are just some battles at the Templeof Persephone that are tough but no problem.
