This thread is for discussion Paper Mario games! GamerofMario1 or G23, is this ok? :)

I own every Paper Mario game. Do you? Or what games do you own?

What is your favorite? My most favorite is Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door for the Nintendo GameCube (released October 2004)! I reserved this game from GameStop way back then. I just LOVE this game! It is my favorite game of the 2000s decade. It is near the top of my list of favorite games ever too. Everything in it is special! :D

I own all four Paper Marios. It could be the fact that I replayed it about ten months ago, but the original would be my favorite, if I had to say right now. Of course, maybe if I played Thousand-Year Door again that could change. It was also a very great game. Super Paper Mario was also a delight. Yes, it was different, but that isn't a terrible thing (despite what gamers want to believe). Maybe it wasn't a turn-based RPG, but it was an excellent side-scroller with RPG elements.

Sticker Star, on the other hand, was a severe disappointment. The first Mario "RPG" (if it can even really be called that) I couldn't bring myself to beat, the first Mario RPG I didn't like. The battle system lacked any kind of depth, the story was non-existent, and the writing and humor (a staple of Mario RPGs) was nowhere to be found. And Kersti may very well be my least favorite Mario character ever (well, next to Daisy). I just didn't care for it much at all.

Hopefully Paper Mario can get back on track, because I adore the series as a whole. For now, it looks like Mario & Luigi is doing a great job at keeping Super Mario RPG's legacy alive. But a direct sequel to Mario RPG itself would be a dream come true.

The only Paper Mario titles I have played so far are the latter two, but I want to get the two older ones eventually.

I made this suggestion that the next Paper Mario could be a crossover with Sonic. Nintendo and Sega claimed they can't do a proper platformer crossover with Mario and Sonic due to different play types and not being able to decide whose world is should take place in which honestly sounds like laziness to me.

But Paper Mario: The Sonic Chronicles could be interesting. The plot goes that Bowser's kidnaps Peach in order to lure Mario and Luigi to his castle but his trap is to suck them into an alternate dimension with a portal device he created but of course the device goes haywire sucking Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser and his minions into the dimension as well.

Mario wakes up in a strange world to be rescued by a blue hedgehog and his friends and learns he's in Mobius. YES Sonic's home world is called Mobius and if you try to correct me YOU ARE WRONG!! But Sonic introduces himself and offers to help Mario find his way home and figures if they collect the Chaos Emeralds, they can use their power to warp Mario home. After all the Chaos Emeralds, like the Stars are plot Macguffins that are as powerful as the writers want them to be and we need seven of something to collect.

Mario's partners here would be Sonic and pals, each of them lending their powers like Sonic making Mario move faster (like the baby Yoshi did), Amy can smash rocks with her hammer. Tails can carry Mario over short distances like Parakarry. You get the idea. Maybe for something different, you can have 2 partners in battle or team up for combined attacks as in Chrono Trigger or as in Sonic's own RPG Sonic Chronicles. Plus the gamepad lends itself well to RPGs with the screen used for inventory and menus and maps. Plus Mario would be in a new location, traveling through Sonic's various levels like Green Hill, Casino, etc. Also who wouldn't want to see Sonic's world in the paper style?

Of course Bowser and Eggman meet up and team up to stop Mario and Sonic from saving the day so you fight both Bowser minons and Eggman bots and even later we could have cool things like koopas in mech suits or robotic versions of Bowser minions.

Hell we could even find something for Peach and Luigi to do. I think a lot of us were upset that we got no side story in Sticker Star of what Peach and Bowser were doing while waiting on Mario to show up. I think Mr. L should come back too. We all loved Luigi's evil version. Luigi lands elsewhere in Mobius, knocked out, he's found by Metal Sonic who brings him to Eggman and Bowser. Luigi comes to but doesn't remember anything so Bowser convinces him he's Mr. L and working for them.

My favorite of the Mario RPGs is still Super Mario RPG but Thousand Year Door is a close second.

While a Mario/Sonic crossover could be fun, but the Sonic series has changed so much in tone that they would no longer mesh the same way they once could have. Plus, I don't want to see all those goofy animals getting in Marios way. Keep the Sonic characters at Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, Metal Sonic (who should just be a mindless robot) and Dr. Robotnik (yes, his name is Robotnik, if you try to correct me YOU ARE WRONG!!). It should also take place in Mario's World, it's so much more delightful.

I agree with you on Mario RPG still being the best though. Hard to say what second place would be though. The first two Paper Marios and first & third M&L games are all so great (Super Paper Mario and Partners in Time are also great, just not quite as much).

Well in fairness, Colors, Generations and upcoming Lost World seem to be returning to a more, silly lighthearted tone and not taking itself as seriously as it did in the Sonic Adventure games up to '06. Colors went and broke the 4th wall at one point, Generations basically poked fun at the clichés of the series and Lost World is bringing back old school stuff like badnicks, the little animals in capsules.

So yeah the bad anime melodrama of the early 00s is long gone. Sega even said they took ideas from the Mario series in terms of tone and level design going back to the more lighthearted colorful aesthetic of earlier games. Seriously have you played Sonic Colors or Sonic Generations? You'll see what I mean.

I loved Sonic Generations. It was a great game. And I do agree that the series is finding its footing again. But I can't help but think that a crossover would try to utulize every character in some way, shape or form. Just say no to Shadow the Hedgehog!

And while the world of Sonic is getting back to its roots, the Mario world is still the more fun and creative place. So if a potential crossover didn't utilize both worlds, it should stick with Mario's.Â
