Hi here we are again which some FF info. Final fantasy has brought us a lot of monsters, characters, races and names. Most of them came up just form the imagination of some people, while other came from very interesting stories, cultures, legends and life itself. This topics will help us know a little more about our beloved final fantasy game ;).
This time we will feature: The Amazing Chocobos!!(info extracted form wikipedia, angelfire and other sources).
Whats a Chocobo??
Well a chocobo is something like KC, well....maybe a bit different ..Ok, ok ..Its a fictional large, normally flightless galliforme/ratite bird capable of being ridden and is a staple of the Final Fantasy series. While ordinary Chocobos are yellow, certain rare breeds are of different colors and have special abilities, such as crossing mountains or flight. An even rarer, more extreme variant is the Fat Chocobo (or Chubby Chocobo), which resembles a morbidly obese yellow or white chocobo and can humorously stock the party's items in its stomach or appear randomly when summoning a chocobo in battle. Chocobos have occasionally been sighted as lightly armored war mounts in which case they can assist their riders with beak and claw. Overall, the species is a very versatile and useful bird, which comes in handy as horses are untamed or non-existent in Final Fantasy games.
They have been known to have various cries throughout the series. The earliest games had them crying "Cooc Cooc," the newer games had them crying "Wark," and the newest games have them crying "Kweh".
Creation and Influence
The chocobo was created by Koichi Ishii, a video game director who worked on various Final Fantasy titles. A basis for Chocobos was Kyoro-chan, a character in TV advertisements for Morinaga & Company's chocolate candy (who also has its own anime series), Chocoball , having in common with the Chocobo that it is a bird with the call of "Kweh". Morinaga has also released a tie-in product Chocobo no Chocoball (Chocobo's Chocoball). The Chocobo design is said to be based off of Hayao Miyazaki's Horseclaws, which appear in Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind.
The Chocobo signature theme is an immediately recognizable upbeat ditty that is present in one form or another in all Final Fantasy games since Final Fantasy II, frequently as variants or remixes: for instance, the Final Fantasy VII Chocobo races have a frantic version, while the futuristic and relatively realistic Final Fantasy VIII has a more modern one. It is titled with the suffix "de Chocobo," and is prefixed by the name of the game it is played in. For example "Techno de Chocobo" from Final Fantasy VI features a dance remix, while "Cinco de Chocobo" from Final Fantasy VII features a jazz remix (in 5/4 time, 'Cinco' being Spanish for the number 5). A new version of the theme titled "Swing de Chocobo" was created by Nobuo Uematsu for the concerts titled VOICES and Play! and was performed by a number of different orchestras between 2005 and 2007.
Types of Chocobos
Generally, in Final Fantasy titles, if there is any difference at all in the abilities or disposition of a chocobo, it is based upon their color and one might assume implied race. Below are a list of traditional colors for chocobos, where they appear, and what that means in terms of their abilities if anything.
Black Chocobo
Black Chocobos are rare and they are, with gold, the only type of Chocobo that can fly. They can only land in forests. They first appear in Final Fantasy IV, and they cannot fly over mountains. When mounted a second time, they automotically fly Cecil and his friends back to the forest near Toroia, the only forest in which they can be found. A Chocobo farm near Toroia raises Black Chocobos, however, these versions cannot fly. In Final Fantasy V, Black Chocobos can fly over mountains as well, however, they cannot fly over tall, snow capped ranges. A Black Chocobo is found in a forest near Crescent, and has two Job Crystals stuck in it. These include the Hunter and Bard. A Black Chocobo can also be found in Mirage Village, and riding the Black Chocobo is the only way to reach the Phoenix Tower. In Final Fantasy VII Black Chocobos can walk over mountains and across rivers, but cannot fly. They are bred by mating a Blue and a Green chocobo with a Carob Nut. In Final Fantasy XII, they wander the Ozmone Plains, and will attack anyone on sight.
Blue Chocobo
Blue Chocobos appear in Final Fantasy VII, in which they can cross rivers, and in Final Fantasy IX, in which they can cross oceans. Lighter blue Chocobos can only cross shallow water.
Green Chocobos
The Green Chocobo appears in Final Fantasy VII, and can be used to cross mountains. In Final Fantasy XII they appear in the Salikawood, usually sleeping
Gold Chocobo
Gold Chocobos first appeared in FFVII and cross all terrain, including oceans. They appeare in FFIX, and can fly. Like its predecessors in FFIV and FFV, they can only land in forests. :?
Fat Chocobo
As a girl in FFIII said: Fat Chocobo can store items in its belly! isnt that hilarious? And Slighty disturbing?.
Well it sure is:P. Also known as the Big Chocobo in FFIV, the Fat Chocobo ia a large and hefty CHocobo. Its first appearences was in FFIII, he can only be summoned bya a Carrot (or Gysahl Green in the DS ver.) in some specific areas. These areas generally appear in Chocobo towns and also in the Invincible, the final airship earned in this game (hope this is not a spoiler :P). Once summoned he will store items in its belly for the party.
In FFIV he fulfills the same role, appearing in Chocbo foress mostly but there is also such an area in Dwarves Castle. A Big Cochobo can also be found on The Big Whale.
The Fat Chocobo appears as random summon in FFV and FFVII, as well on Triple Triad card in FFVIII. It also appears in FFIX in Chocobos Paradise.
In FF Tactics, he is mentioned in the treasure Chocbo Cannon, whcich gets a Fat Chocobo to drink gun powder to fire like a cannon. As it rarely hits, I see no practical use :P.
Triple Triad
The Chubby Chocobo is a Level 8 Card.It has no elemental attribute. 1 Card can be refined into 100 LuvLuvGs. To obtain: Win a card game against a male student outside the Balamb Garden Library.
Red Chocobo
Red Chocobos are the fastest type of Chocobo in Final Fantasy Tactics, and are known for their powerful Choco Meteor' attack. They also appear in Final Fantasy IX, in which they can cross mountains. In Final Fantasy XII, they appear on the Ozmone Plains, and if players fulfil certain conditions, a level 99 one will appear. This special chocobo will always drop a Ribbon. Red Chochobos are mentioned, although not seen, in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, as the Gotor Sands area is "famous for its mirages and red Chocobos.
White Chocobo
In Final Fantasy IV, the White Chocobo recovers the MP of Cecil's party. In Final Fantasy VII, it is found in the small town of Mideel and is the source of the Contain materia. A white Chocobo can also appear as an opponent in Gold Saucer's Chocobo Racing. In Final Fantasy XII, the Elite Mark Trickster is a giant white chocobo.
Brown Chocobo
From Final Fantasy XII, this dull Chocobo can be found in the Salikawood, sleeping, and just generally ignoring the player party.(couldnt find a nice image :P)
