I think in history it would be Zhao Yun.
Maybe Guan Yu, he beheaded and chopped generals in half from his horse.

He was a Pirate turned trusted General of Sun Quan, never left his side after saving his life.

In my opinion; Zhao Yun, Zuo Ci, Zhou Tai, Cao Pi, Pang De, Ma Chao, Eight Raiders of Xi Liang(Zheng Heng, Cheng Yin, Yang Qiu, etc), Gongsun Zan, There's more but I'm too lazy to mention all of them. The best is still Ma Chao though.
I'm afraid I can't agree that Guan Yu is a cavalry captain...I mean he's just a mere peasant who's loved by Cao Cao for his high spirit..The red hare is a gift. In reality (I read in history) Red Hare always disobeyed Guan Yu. it only obey Lu Bu.
Zhou Tai is mercenary recruited by Sun Quan, I don't know how Sun Quan use his tongue to make Zhou Tai obey and become his personal bodyguard...That reminds me...That's Zhou Yu's work.
