GameSpot unions Vs. Web sites

I would like to hear your opinion on this topic... What do you think is better to own. A GS union or a website... Here's what's my opinion

Gamespot's Unions privileges

• people can easy find you
• it's easy to use
• you can use simple text editors
• you dont have to pay any money for hosting or designing

Regular Websites privileges

• you can create your own design
• you can use any web designing software
• you can make your own forums with your own rules and without being watched by mods.

You can make your own design on a union...to an extent...I think a website is better for a union about one game but I'll go with union if it's about a series or collection of games.

don't forget the point about advertising for regular websites. GS doesn't allow unions to use google adsense, and if you had your own site, you could make more. I mean this union gets 1000-2000 views a day. If we were allowed to use adsense on this union, This union could generate well over $100 a month.theeman2000

I choose web sites. I am in The Elder Scrolls Fan Union, and we are in the process of moving to our own website, to have more privileges, so I know how both unions and web sites work. The web site can be a lot better since you control a lot of stuff that you cannot do with unions. julian_jr

Maybe when Unions V2 come some people will change their opinions (if they ever come)

websites give you so many more options and they can make money.greenpyro33

the downside is the fact that it takes so long to get them established and popular, like with people visiting and stuff. For unions, GS has the community, so that recruiting is relatively easy.

that's because you guys are almost certainly biased. I was with you guys originally, but I made a fully-functional forum and website completely free, and we're having a resurgence unlike any other. My new forum, although harder to get members for, is altogether FAR more active than my originally TESFU. That's 8500 posts in a month and a half, and I'm sure CW would have even better numbers being an off-topic site, made off-site.
