I will make the point though that it would be hard to choose with this for an overall status. Throughout the past 80 years the east coast and west coast sounds have been so sonically differant that the overall better scene changed by the decade. I am a big fan of singers and standards as well as 60's jangle pop, hardcore and so on and each scene had its own take on a specific genre. I know this will not make a differance to most but it does for me because of the changes. I say east coast because of my love for what it brought in the 80's and 90's but the 60's had the mothers, the byrds and the 80's had dokken and the 70's had van halen starting out (not to mention ozzys move to america_ all on the west coast....So I am starting tot hink I'll be on the fence in all this
EDIT: And tin todays world they are both drowned in crappy pop music :(
I will point out though that there should be a specification on the era you are referring to. If it was the 60's then the west coast would win, the 70's had a better east west coast scene as well and the 80's they rivaled heavily with rgeat music scenes as with the 90's. The better coast really depends on the era.

i think it's obvious that the 60s were the era of the hippies and the summer of love. i wasn't born yet so i don't know where those bands were from. but i think jimi hendrix, led zeppelin, the doors, etc.. were great bands that i listen to alot. my mom would know more about that than i do.
Other then the exception of the doors, led zeppelin and the jimi hendrix experience were european. Though they toured in america and Jimi Hendrix was born in the USA They still were formed in england. Even later on The Jimi hendrix Experience moved to new york city for their third and fianla lbum (where at that point Jimi was spending most of his time in new york anyway) so if the experience was categorized it would be in the east coast. And Led zeppelin did have a lot to do with the west coast but they were formed in the UK so I dont know if you could count that.
If bands that had a lot to dow ith a certain coast were being counted then I would definately change my answer to west.
I think that only hip-hop music has been seperated in east coast and west coast and I don't even know which people go where.lancelot200
yes i am aware of the hip hop thing. but i what i really wanted to talk about was the location of your favorite bands. like home grown bands. does it matter to you?

Desert Rock = Los Angelos; Thrash = San Fransisco; Death Metal = Florida. That's about the only thing that might be relevant to my music taste.
