Cool. Acually I was watching some of vertitas' stuff last night (under your recommendation) and while I find him compelling and smart I always tend to disagree with his arguments. I'll definitely give this series a go though.

I don't know why he says atheism can't be a movement.  Was slave abolition a movement?

His Einstein quotes were partly explained because unscrupulous or unknowledgeable theists keep trying to lie about his religious beliefs (see how does an atheist gain knowledge at the top of these booards right now.)  The section talking about A.E. was included in a section explaining the different types of belief in god and he was pointing out that he was not criticizing the more metaphoric idea of god, the "physicist's god."  He does however go on to put some criticism on some of the language of physicist.  I didn't read it at all as your friend made out of simple posturing as atheism has power players.

I am not fond of the argument that one can't have ideas of things like justice without god.  Moral relativity is vacant so on and so forth.

The argument for non-overlapping magisteria, sounds a bit like god of the gaps.

…………..criticizing because he assumes a person doesn't believe in the string of 10 or so gods listed, many of which are retired and one never really believed in.  Isn't that a bit petty.

You friend does seem to make some good points about other theories he could have placed in his aurguments for god section.  Admittedly, many of the names tossed around that are associated with other possible arguments went a bit over my head.

I saw some of these not impress to tell you the truth.

Firstly, I would not let anyone else define my atheism as a lack of belief in anything. Seems more like a pejorative sting on your friends part more than anything else. Maybe you two should check out all of the movements that atheism can be associated with. A total lack of belief in anything is not atheism, that is more along the lines of outright nihilism.

Moral relativity being absent, or course it would seem that way when you have already created the ultimate moral power in the universe. "We have measured the value of the world according to categories that refer to a purely fictitious world"- Nietzsche.

I've watched the first two parts, and I'm not overly impressed with his arguments.
