There is no created purpose to life as there is no creator. There is an adaptive purpose, which is something that individuals use to live by giving meaning to their role in their world. A rational purpose for an individual is to be safe, successful, and happy by his own work and not at through the work or injury of someone else. This can mean that he can have a job of any notable pursuit. This can also mean that he can select a partner that he loves deeply and raise a family with her. Happiness is the purpose of living, but it is not the standard. You should not be happy at someone else's expense, as it is no achievement.
The reason to live is whatever you want it to be. Some people feel that their purpose is to be a parent or a teacher. Many aren't satisfied with this answer; which is probably why man developed religions.
