That about sum it up? :P

#7 Posted by marcheegsr (2408 posts) -

I can't list ten because 10 call of dutys didn't come out this past gen.. or did it? Kind seems like it.

#8 Posted by HoolaHoopMan (7686 posts) -

Off the top of my head? Heavy Rain and LA SNoire.

I wouldn't even classify these shit piles as games. Just interactive stories. QTEs were always awful to begin with, so they decide to make a full game of them?

HO LEE SHYAT.

  1. Anything on the Wii (control scheme just awful)
  2. Minecraft (not even a game)
  3. Mass Effect 1 (for a good RPG, see ME2)
  4. Borderlands (both of them)
  5. Any CoD game except the first Black Ops
  6. Bayonetta (really anything by Platinum)
  7. Gears 2 and 3
  8. Batman Arkham City (Good game, but not nearly as good as it's predecessor)
  9. Tie: Every Battlefield game released (BF3, BF4, BF BC, BF: BC 2)
  10. All those overrated Indies: Braid, Fez, sure there are many others
#15 Edited by voljin1987 (667 posts) -

Anything with the name Call of Duty on it (to be fair, the series was all right upto MW2)

Journey

Last of Us (gr8 game.. just not the pinnacle of gaming others make it out to be)

Ni no kuni (broken combat system, balancing issues, excessive hand holding)

Skyward Sword (IGN called it the next Ocarina of Time.. pff)

Mass Effect 2 (incredibly dumbed down compared to the original)

Metal Gear Solid (10/10 for this? lol)

League of Legends

Skyrim (how a game so incredibly buggy on launch got such rave "reviews" is beyond me.. the initial release is a beta at best)

Diablo 3 (Luckily Torchlight 2 and Path of Exile came out soon afterwards)

MGS4 and Uncharted 4 are not overated ............. Please keep that in mind ... thanks

#17 Posted by cain006 (8625 posts) -

I'd say The Witcher and Witcher 2. I find something to like about most games but The Witcher was just bad. Terrible gameplay, awful quests, way too long, and the story wasn't that great. The Witcher 2's gameplay was bad but not terrible and I got bored of it after I gave it a good 3 hours or so.

2 Uncharted 3

I removed my list. There is just too much negativity in this thread and didn't want my list to be confused with that mentality. I liked the games I listed, I just didn't like them as much.

#20 Edited by Link3301 (1680 posts) -

In no exact order.

GTA IV

GTA V

Call of Duty Black Ops

Call of Duty 4

Half-Life 2

Elder Scrolls V Skyrim

Elder Scroll IV Oblivion

Fallout 3

Fallout New Vegas

#21 Posted by Link3301 (1680 posts) -

I don't get why TC says Halo Reach and Skyward Sword are overrated. Skyward Sword isn't exactly praised as the best Zelda ever and Halo Reach was pretty poorly received by a large part of the Halo fanbase.

#22 Posted by Slashless (9928 posts) -

Every Gears of War after 1

Killzone 2 and 3

Every Mass Effect

Bioshock 1

Both Borderlands

Every heartless military shooter this gen

And good fucking christ fuck Last of Us.

Yea, Witcher 2 probably should be on my list instead of Bayonetta. I never understood why it got so much hype. I mean, it was a decent game but it wasn't mind blowing. The combat in that game was sooooooo shitty. Shield spell, swing, roll, repeat.

1.GTA 4 - Probably the most tedious and most boring GTA i have ever played, i mean to spend that much time making tv channels and programs really came out in the boring story and missions it was an absolute chore to finish that game.

2.Red Dead Redemption - The story, The game-play, The era was great, The world not so great, I mean the map was massive but empty space was massive in this game, i mean the first area you was in you had a farm, 2 towns and some settlements, and within the town you had a bar and a bank and maybe a shop and a sheriff, but you couldn't do anything in the town apart from poker and a few other little games within the bar, there was nothing, get drunk, where was the bar fights?? no where that's where, the wilderness was bare, after your first wild animal kill and that dam cut scene i couldn't care less after that. once the main story and the side quests were done there was nothing else left to do, everywhere was just empty, i think in my whole play through i managed to have about 3 shoot outs and that was because i went trying to get one.

3.Gears Of War - great graphics, but way way way to short.

4.GTA5 - I mean don't get me wrong it's a good game, but again a massive world and most of the places of interest you'd want to go you can't.
These great heists seriously the first one you do, is the only real heist you actually have any part in sorting out, the other ones you have to do anyway and for it to be the main focus 4 heists in total was rubbish and the last one you do all you basically do is stop cars go to the place walk in walk out and your done. i wish the banks were open in the sandbox part of the game and again once you finish the missions and side missions there is nothing else to do, buy shops and stuff and have loads of money to spend on nothing as you can't buy new houses and buy the golf club for $120m or what ever it is, the only way to get that money is to do Lester's missions but it doesn't tell you this in the game and once finished there is no way of reaching that sort of money because the stock market moves about 1/2 every few hours. i mean aren't I meant to be this big bank robber and the best activities they could come up with were golf/tennis/triathlons??????/yoga, lol i mean off the top of my head i can think of at least 10/20 activities what could of been in there, which actually sort the game.

6. Minecraft it looks horrible and sounds boring, do not see the appeal.

5.Most indie games - i just think at the moment all websites and games industry is going crazy for all this indie games stuff and i just don't see it, i mean half of them are based on old games and side scrolling games and i'm just not a fan.

any game that starts with the words *call of duty*, *elder scrolls* and *fallout*

#38 Edited by Maroxad (7788 posts) -

The only thing that is overrated is the word overrated. But I will post 10 highly scoring and popular games whose critical success I disagree with.

  1. Skyrim: Modded, this game is great with requiem being what Skyrim should have been day 1. But vanilla this game is one of the worst games I have played this gen.
  2. Arkham Asylum: The stealth sections and the atmosphere were superb, But the combat, being some of the worst combat I have seen in this industry greatly dragged dwon the whole experience, I would have finished this game if it were not for the mindless combat.
  3. Assassin's Creed 2: Mindless combat, weaksauce stealth, abyssmal platforming, poor writing and bleugh mission design ruined this game for me.
  4. Fallout 3: The game is terrible at everything it does, and it has a green tint too.
  5. inFamous: I couldnt beat this game, the "gunplay" the bland overworld and the repetitive side missions made the game too much of a chore.
  6. GTA4: Few games felt like a chore as much as this game. The story and the gameplay really didnt feel like they worked together either.
  7. MGS4: The stealth is weaker than a game that is 10 years older, the boss fights were forgettable and the story was convoluted and relied too much on McGuffins.
  8. Gears of War: To be fair, anything involving cover based shooting is a dreadful bore to me.
  9. Mass Effect: Choices and "Consequences" that amount to NOTHING. Weaksauce gunplay, bleh level design, introduced the worst dialogue system known to man, expansive but banal setting, written by talentless fanfic writter Drew Karpyshyn.
  10. Fire Emblem Awakening (if you count this as a gen 7 game): A step down from previous fire emblems in many ways. Levels got a lot less varied with missing mechanics such as weather and destructable objects. I like the increased customizability and the avatar (who I named Mary Sue) though, but it is not in FE7's or FE10 or 11's caliber. Good game, but not as good as the other Fire Emblems.
#39 Posted by -RPGamer- (34283 posts) -

Updated my list to remove it, too much negativity for relatively good/great games going on in this thread. Tired of gamers always complaining about their hobby.

#40 Edited by TheEroica (12961 posts) -

@AdobeArtist: I was thinking the same thing... That said, I suppose the point is to critique the high scoring games as overrated. The said, it's all in the eye of the beholder I suppose.

#41 Posted by -RPGamer- (34283 posts) -

Half-Life 2

Elder Scrolls V Skyrim

Fallout 3

Fallout New Vegas

Halflife 2 is a last generation (technically 2 generations old) title now. The fact you are comparing it to, and it bests modern shooters shows how little you know about video games my friend. That and a Mass Effect avatar pretty much says it all.
