So....I just heard this and it seems MS is trying to fight back by saying the vast majority of 360 owners did not have the disk scratching problem and it was user error.
So...is this Microsoft's version of "for the gamers"?

This was an pretty big issue back then "dj disc scratching feature". RROD was worse though from my personal experience (had RROD 4 times, E74 once).
I saw it first hand before and it was a trip. We placed a brand new game in a machine while it sat perfectly still in a testing environment and it went to town grinding the disc. I was very shocked. I spoke about it in SW a few times many years ago.
Still, if the scratching discs was wide spread for a case, people should get reimbursed. I saw customers arguing with the retailers to get even a 3rd or 4th replacement copy of discs over scratched discs that the customers claimed they didn't scratch for brand new games. That was years ago though.
@SolidTy: Slims definitely still scratch discs. That's why they put a sticker in front of the console telling you how shit they built the new model as well.
**** Microsoft for how poorly they made 360..
I guess this is good, should keep them thinking twice about cutting corners, but I'm wondering how people after so many years might be able to take part in a class action and prove they were effected by this.
I'm curious about how MS being accountable plays into this since the disc drives came from various manufacturers. Such as did MS buy existing drives on the market, or had them specifically produced for their system... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_specifications#List_of_DVD_drives

Errr....98% of disc scratching was user error. I knew many people who got scratched discs from moving their console while it was running, something Microsoft has said not to do. I've met maybe one person who had a game actually get ringed by his disc drive during regular use, and I know plenty of 360 owners.

True or not, I recall the consensus in media a boards back then was people were moving the console so I doubt MS can be sued for this, whether they deserve it or not.
never experienced it
only had RROD once, got my console fixed free. Nephew uses it now.
I'm in on the lawsuit though. Need one against Sony because my promised 4D, 120 fps never worked in either of my PS3s
Let's see if the mods will lock this for not being SW related.
This is as much SW related as just about anything on this board.
- the Rather have a Kinect or The Order thread
- More news about Star Citizen thread
- More no news about Half Life 3 thread
- Announcing a God of War 3 remaster thread
- Everytime theres a PC sale....thread
How the **** is this not SW related yet those are?

he's upset about one of his threads being locked a couple of days ago
I think i had it with just 1 disc (maybe 2?) and didn't reoccur. Anyone know why it happened?
Did you bump the 360 with the disc in?

Not to my knowledge. (i'd say 99% no but always possible)
It's even crazier when you realize that all it takes to fix it is some foam pads to keep the spinning disc stable...or at least I remember seeing that on the net.

PSAs are not allowed anymore. I had posted that Sony was offering free online this weekend and it got locked.

The salt is real
Classic MS hardware.
Wouldn't be surprised if it turns out the Kinect camera produces radiation that leads to tumour creation and growth.
Never had the problem but then again I don't move my console when a disc is inside.
That is what I heard. People are moving the console position from vertical to horizontal while a game is playing. Who does this?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xbox_360_technical_problems#BBC_Watchdog_investigation_of_Xbox_360_disc_scratches_.282009.29
Watchdog a UK consumer programme investigated it; "a further test which attempted to simulate normal household vibrations produced a disc scratch on the previously problematic console".
Here's a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qGlPz1NFNyU
From the video: "So common is this problem, that the EU's consumer commissioner has twice written to Microsoft asking why she has been receiving so many complaints about the Xbox 360."
Don't put books down near your Xbox or enjoy Rock Band too much lol, something clearly wasn't up to standards with their disc drives.
Microsoft's reply to this? "No comment..."
@blue_hazy_basic: "Not to my knowledge. (i'd say 99% no but always possible)"
Was a small earthquake then. Natural disasters aren't covered under warranty though...
Bam, MS off the hook. :)
