You'll need Titan to see Watch Dogs trailer quality on PC

#1 Posted by IgGy621985 (4954 posts) -

Seems those nasty recommended specs aren't nasty enough for Ubisoft, so we have ULTRA settings too:

"Want to make your PC run Watch Dogs so it looks like the latest trailer? You'll need the game running close to its Ultra settings, which have now been detailed by creative director Jonathan Morin.

An Intel Core i7-4770K with a GeForce 780 is required to show the game off at its best, Morin wrote on Twitter over the weekend.

The latest PC video released last week was recorded on an Intel Core i7-3930K with a GeForce Titan."

Now let's see if it's actually justified.

Is that with all the Nvidia bullshit turned on?

#4 Posted by Grey_Eyed_Elf (4080 posts) -

My overclocked i5 4670k and GTX 780 Ti should have no problem.

#5 Posted by rogelio22 (2427 posts) -

Bet a 770 will do jus fine with aa and other unnecessary settings turned down or completely off. I can hardly see a difference in aa above x2 at 1080p anyways.

AA off? Dafuq, I'd play it on consoles if I wanted to have jaggies cut my eyes

#7 Posted by rogelio22 (2427 posts) -

@lostrib: lol like I said I can hardly tell a difference in aa at 1080p sitting 10ft away from my tv.. but probably be picking this up for ps4 anyways since I need more games for it since its ubisoft and u know how bad pc ports are from them performance wise

Ah, I play at a desk. I usually go 4x AA, unless it's a source based game then I crank up the AA to max just for fun

#9 Edited by melonfarmerz (1282 posts) -

How? This looks so much worse than Crysis 3 and that can be run on a 770 maxed out. This game must be disgustingly optimized.

#10 Posted by CrownKingArthur (5262 posts) -

sounds totally reasonable

#11 Posted by rogelio22 (2427 posts) -

@lostrib: i usually keep it x2. Cept crysis games which I turn completely off. If I get up closer than 5ft then I can see jaggies.. I also like how sharp and clean it looks without aa some games get blurrier with it turned on

#12 Edited by ShadowDeathX (10786 posts) -

This game is going to be an unoptimized mess. They only suggesting a high end CPU because they are requiring you to have the best clock per core so you can brute force through the little multi-thread support. This game won't use more than 3 threads effectively. You can prob. get away playing this game with a Haswell Dual Core with ease.

My 3930k @ 4.7Ghz and Triple 7970 trifire config will still come with dumb sub-30/40 fps drops due to poor CPU optimizations.

I'll be glad if Ubi proves me wrong though.

Core i7-3930K with a GeForce Titan?

Oh Ubisoft. The aasters of optimization can now add to their resume they don't even know what they're talking about.
It's like they said "let's find the most expensive PC parts out there, and say that's what people will need."

#15 Edited by Cloud_imperium (5881 posts) -

Misleading title . They used Titan to show it off , everyone uses Titan these days for demos for best experience.

But they mentioned Geforce 780 to run it on ultra . Hell you won't even need that if you are going to turn of any kind of AA (specially TXAA which is very demanding) . Turn AA off and enjoy highest settings on i5 and 600 series .

#16 Posted by DealRogers (4583 posts) -

The fact that it will be released in 6 plataforms won't help the game optimization. I just hope that my 680 can run it almost all ultra without AA.

#17 Posted by silversix_ (15927 posts) -

Game is optimized by braindead 11y olds, the ubi team. The Division req will be a Titan Z rofl.

i have my doubts that any single gpu will max this game at 1080p without framerate problems

#20 Posted by uninspiredcup (12403 posts) -

Will a Titan card make this anything other than a casual non-game?

no, but it will look nice.

Don't know what resolution and framerate they are talking about, and they probably also have 4x TXAA on which is fairly demanding.

Ok man. I'm not even hating. That's seriously the worst attempt at an insult I've seen on SW. (congrats, that is an accomplishment)

It would be like if I said 'Pee Seas' in an attempt to rile up PC gamers... except that's not even as lame as what you said.

So delete your post. Then I'll delete mine. And we'll pretend this never happened.

I think he was going for the "Genesis does what Nintendon't" angle, but the word play just wasn't there.

Also, I wish I was guy that branded this product. Brilliant!

Perhaps they mean "a GeForce 780 is required to show the game off at its best"

But if you want to show it off at its best AND run it at a playable framerate, you need a titan.

Doesn't deserve to be more. They said the PC version was lead platform, yet all it turns out to be is another crappy Ubisoft port.

No way man , even if the game is very badly optimized , 780 is a beast video card . Those requirements are already looking a bit fake like Max Payne 3 and COD Ghosts . I read their tweets , they said to run the game on ultra (at decent frames) you'll need 780 . Then in 2nd tweet they said that those features (except TXAA) will also run on AMD cards but won't perform as well as on nVIDIA cards . That clearly means that 780 was named for ultra settings at 60fps .

Could be. But I don't have much hope, and looking at Ubisofts track record there is a good reason for that.

I'll just wait and see, if it turns out to be running alright on AMD GPUs and i5 processors (which I have) as well, than I might get this game.

Yeah, MP3s system requirements were a mistake. They should've made it clear that they mentioned all the supported chips. COD: Ghosts on the other hand was a terrible port... if you can call it that, because it ran and looked like crap on every system it was on.

I heard to run this game the best you need to run it on a Tianhe-2.

Close to == better than?
I do have to say it looks pretty on ultra settings.

#41 Posted by Salt_The_Fries (9951 posts) -

@Cloud_imperium my friend, have you noticed when you want to run Max Payne 3 on ultra or whatever the highest texture setting is, you're about 20 mb of video RAM requirement short on GF 790? So you have to have 4GB video card, basically.

Still high end card to run Ultra but yeah a Titan cost more.

#46 Edited by IMAHAPYHIPPO (2730 posts) -

@no-scope-AK47: You can buy certain models of the 780 twice that won't cost as much as a Titan... So, yeah... There's a slight difference. :)

#47 Posted by killatwill15 (855 posts) -

you can buy 2 290 and cross fire them for the price of a titan.

on a side note developers should stop with proprietary software features like PhysX and tressfx.

only customers get fucked over in the end regardless.

Totally agree. For example: I have a 770; and although I can run Tressfx just fine on Ultimate on Tomb Raider, the hair is glitchy as hell, it goes ape shit randomly. You can tell that it wasn't optimized for a Nvidia card. Same goes for Physx with an AMD card. The cpu has to emulate the fx, so sometimes it drops fps like hell on amd cards.

#49 Posted by m3dude1 (1587 posts) -

the hair behaves identically on nvidia and amd cards, tressfx isnt proprietary.

#50 Edited by Truth_Hurts_U (9447 posts) -

Take it from someone who has a 3770k @ 4.2GHz, 16GB 1866MHz RAM, GTX 690 OC'ed and GTX 650 (1212MHz core) PhysX card... Game will run like crap no matter how good a system you have. I got Assassins Creed Black Flag free and it has all kinds of fancy NVidia only features. Yet looks like crap and runs like it too, with everything maxed out @ 1080 res.

I'm not going to even touch this game, until I get it on sale for $10-$15 or free.

Shame Ubi is so bad at making smooth running games and keeping to the graphics they show when revealing a new game.
