You gotta be kidding me....

So I just finished The Order. I liked the cinematic feel regardless if the black bars were just b/c they had to do it or whatever....it didn't bother me. The game was solid in 90% of places...and it was a great story.

BUT....to the topic of this thread.

The ending....was.....fucking.....horrible.

Not that it was a bad ending b/c it just sucked or whatever....but it left MANY questions. No doubt they want to make this a franchise and create numerous ones.....The Order 1887/1888/1889 and so on.

So....the question: What games do you either enjoy or not think have reeeeeally bad endings.

For me...b/c of all the questions left unanswered The Order is worse than ME3.

But they got me....I'll buy the next one b/c the characters and story are great.

Dying Light's ending was pretty bad, even though I enjoyed the rest of the game immensely.

I am still waiting for Angry Joe's review. He about shit on Twitter at the ending.

Mass effect 3's ending ruined most my love for that series. And recently Dragon Age Inquisitions ending really pissed me off in how it literally is nothing but a cliff hanger that sets the game up for DLC and a sequel, while giving no explanations, besides a short slide show to tigh up the 100+ hours of character development . A fucking slide show...

@ribstaylor1: Hang on...didn't Dragon Age Origins also end in a boring boss fight and a weak slide show, while introducing heaps of questions to be answered in DLC and sequels?

Inquisition's crap ending doesn't sound like anything new to the series.

If OP read the reviews, OP would have known what OP now knows. Anti climactic QTE boss battle is mentioned in just about every review this game got.

@Planeforger: If thats the first one I didn't play it. Second one kind of ended like that. But I don't remember a slide show, and I at least felt like the story had concluded. At the end of Inquisition I felt like I had wasted 100+ hours on a tittle that didn't even finish it's story line. I literally went completionest on that game and Non of that truly mattered as it pulled a mass effect 3

1886 is certainly not a great story so really the lousy ending seems quite fitting.

It's strong opening premise ruined by a C list movie plot, tired cliches, and a mountain of unnecessary verbal diarrhea. The production value is certainly amazing, especially voice acting, but otherwise it's just another action game story, and pretty lame even by those standards.

For a studio that's praised for it's stories, Bioware has never been very good about wrapping up. Several of their games end on those kinds of character and plot cards. It's probably my only real gripe with the story in the Baldur's Gate trilogy. They are not immune to phoning in the endings like many other game studios.

I'm lucid and I can confirm that it was worse than the general consensus of ME3's ending.

Nooo! Not at all, that's not what I meant. I mean it is really long. It is amazing, but very long. Not every game has to have an awesome ending like MGS IV.

That stuff with Big Boss at the end retroactively takes a dump on MGS3. Which is unforgivable. Also, Snake should have pulled the trigger.

But Kojima couldn't write a good story (save MGS3) to save his life, so I don't know why I'm surprised.

Mass Effect 3 ending was worst. The rest of the series is so good and it was so painful to experience that childish ending. The Order 1886? Meh, who cares.

P.S. I also played (and platinumed) The Order today. And I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. It is very much a question of circumstance - $60 retail? Not worth it. But as a rental? Most definitely.

The ending, I think what you're describing is called a cliffhanger, but yes you got the right idea on it leading to sequels, or at least that being their intention whether effective or not.

As for me, probably the last big disappointing ending was the ME3 ending, but I was over it in no time because I went right back to playing the game through another playthrough right away, and again after that, and by like the end of my third playthrough I was over all that nonsense while people were making a big hussy fit over it. Anyhow, they improved the endnig through an update, and it's much better. Though, I've found out that there's some people out there still harping on the ME3 ending that aren't even aware of the new endings.

I also remember reading news that a lot of people in Japan were upset at the FFXIII-2 ending saying that the true ending was hidden behind DLC. I was mindful of it while playing it and I never found the ending to be nearly as disappointing as I was led to believe. Admittedly, I never played Lightning Returns so not sure if I've felt I missed something between the two stories (given how much time it's been I'm not even sure I remember enough to even notice when that day comes).

Am palalying Homeworlds. It's good.

Maybe next time drop £20 on that rather than £50 on that.

Hmm well that was different/unique. I'll give it that. :P But I still thought that while it made sense, the ending kinda clashed with the rest of the game.... well from what I remember anyway. Left a bad aftertaste even through I enjoyed playing the whole game ya know?

The story in general was underwhelming. Clichés all over the place, and the characters were so forgettable. And it's funny, because I thought, if anything, the story will be the saving grace of this game.

I just finished it as well. this game is an absolute turd. I think a 5 from gamespot is generous. There isn't one thing in this game that is done correctly. I actually found the length a positive because I don't know how much more I could take of it

I feel ya, it did feel like the game came to a halt at the end, they could've ended on a stronger note.

But I still enjoyed the ending even if it did clash with the rest of the game.

The game is like pulling teeth. My cousin literally threw me the controller because he didn't wanna play it. He didn't mind watching it, but the QTEs distract so much. I had to quit after the first half hour. It was that bad for me.

I'm willing to bet any amount of money, that the game was forced released and not ready. No way that was the intended game.

That could be. In general the game clearly didn't have the biggest of budgets though they still managed to make a rough diamond.

The overall game was Amazing but that last boss fight against Malebolgia was absolute trash. You spent countless attempts fighting your way through all the other people and when you finally fight Malebolgia, all you have to do is hit it ONE TIME with ANY ITEM (yes even a rock on the ground will kill Malebolgia in one hit). That took the cake for me but the rest of the game was AMAZING.

No they didn't make a rough diamond. They made a turd. this was by far the worst game i purchased this gen. I expected a mediocre and decent game, I got a complete wad of steaming poo

I forgot the name. But it was a hybrid between splinter cell and uncharted mostly. The ending was a shitty car chase without actually catching the main villain.

I doubt he'd be able to play that. People buy these movie-titles for a reason, they can't do real gaming.
