http://www.engadget.com/2013/11/09/xbox-one-ps4-3d-blu-ray-playback/?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000589,

Just in case this LINK doesn't work.

PS4=blu ray playback...xbone=maybe down the road.

It's sad to see MS do this to themselves with Kinect failures, underperforming hardware, potential spying and all these other mistakes. PS4 is going to be the runaway system, which is bad for us all because competition is good. And MS is avoiding competing by having so many issues. I'm sure some of their games will be great, and they'll systems, it just seems they are giving so many reasons to go with alternatives at this point.

PS: I say this as a guy that loved both his original Xbox and 360 for a while, through I'm sure some of you have noticed I've graduated to pc gaming more often of late. I just wish MS weren't shooting themselves in the foot so much.

3D bluray playback. So it will play regular blurays?

#4 Edited by AppleFan1991 (3037 posts) -

So wait, they both play Blu-Ray. Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox One will play 3d Blu-Ray and all that translates to the Xbox never being able to play 3D Blu-Ray? Yes, Teh Megatonz

#5 Posted by Chutebox (36392 posts) -

It's just 3D BD.

#6 Edited by SKaREO (3161 posts) -

Jesus Christ, what a fail this console is....

#7 Posted by AppleFan1991 (3037 posts) -

So summary time:

Xbox One will play Blu-Rays, with 3D support coming but this is Teh Megatonz

#8 Posted by kuu2 (6868 posts) -

3D is still around, and people actually care about it?

X1 - No support out of the box for 3D Blu-ray. Expected to be added later. Yawn.

PS4 - No support out of the box for 4K. Expected to be added later. Yawn.

Thread is Yawn.

#11 Posted by Randolph (10417 posts) -

So I guess the OP didn't actually read his own link? That is in regards to 3D Blu Ray playback only. How many people even have 3D capable TVs anyway? I'm in the market for a new TV myself, and I'm excluding 3D capable ones because it raises the cost of the set for what is, quite frankly, a lame fad that is already losing steam.

Couldn't tell you last time i brought home a movie on a disc... IF i can't stream it or see on the big screen for $5 or less. screw it...

#14 Posted by FoxbatAlpha (6022 posts) -

Some people cant read.

The X1 will play Blu-ray fine. Not 3D at launch. However the X1 does support 4K games.

Don't expect the PS4 ever to do 4K gaming. 4k pics yeah, just not yet.

#19 Posted by Tighaman (719 posts) -

If it was the other way around, you would list it as a reason to get an X1. I saw your lame post about the five or so reasons to get an X1. All those five reasons were no better than 3D.

The stupidity in this thread is pretty damn entertaining. Just look at all the idiots responding that didn't even bother reading the article.

Sony and MS both are releasing unfinished consoles.

#25 Posted by starwolf474 (474 posts) -

Who cares about 3D bluray playback? I thought that horrible 3D movies fad had died already.

#26 Posted by heretrix (37276 posts) -

Wow. That's terrible. No out of the box support for a format that almost nobody uses?

I heard somewhere that tthe reason both consoles aren't supporting Blu-ray out of the box is because they would rather pay for licensing per ACTIVATION vs licensing per CONSOLE.

Smart move.

PS: I say this as a guy that loved both his original Xbox and 360 for a while

Sure but you're reaching a bit here with this 3D blu-ray.

Sony and MS both are releasing unfinished consoles.

Yeah, they should learn from Nintendo, the 3DS and Wii U launches were incredible.

What?

"Now that Microsoft has adopted Blu-ray for its upcoming Xbox One, some of you might have been wondering if this next-gen console will support 3D Blu-ray movies. Well, the answer is no, or at least not yet. Back in May, Director of Xbox Programming, Larry Hryb aka Major Nelson, vaguely confirmed 3D and 4K output on the Xbox One, but his company has recently told CNET that the machine will be shipped without 3D Blu-ray playback capability. Having said that, there's still a chance of adding this feature via an update later on.

On the other hand, Sony has just confirmed to us that the PS4 will definitely come with both 3D Blu-ray playback (requires the 1.50 firmware update and then a one-time activation) and 3D gameplay (albeit a current lack of 3D titles). And while there's no 4K output for games just yet, the Japanese giant is considering adding support for 4K still images and video to the console, as mentioned in its lengthy FAQ. Not that any of this is going to deter the hardcore gamers, anyway."

Agreed. I don't remember the last time I put a movie disc into my PS3 or 360.

@crimsonman1245: quit assuming I'm playing fanboy wars, because I wasn't implying that. Obviously my comment went over your head.

#34 Posted by PrincessGomez92 (3323 posts) -

Oh no, it won't support 3D Blu-rays AT LAUNCH.

Blu Ray > Netflix

#38 Posted by jg780000 (87 posts) -

Seriously this is no fail. Nobody cares about 3d . Eventually there will probably be an update to allow 3d playback. Remember when ps3 didn't have 3d playback for awhile. This is no reason not to get an xbone, yes I do have a 3d tv and movies ,but I will still get xbox one.

This certainly puts a halt to their plans of being considered the all-in-one media center for your home, people downplaying this are just kidding themselves.
