Famitsu this week has new details on Xenoblade Chronicles X. Specifically, the magazine details the eight unions players will be able to join, the size of the world, and more.

Get the details below.

Start of the Game

At the beginning of the story, the goal is to survive the uncivilized planet of Mira. After meeting up with private military organization Blade, you’ll choose from one of eight affiliated unions, each with their own overarching objective to fill, and embark on quests. It’s possible to join a different union later. Unlike the linear progression of the original Xenoblade Chronicles, the successor’s story will unfold in various directions.

Unions

The eight unions are:

  • Pathfinder - In charge of data probe installation.
  • Interceptor - In charge of exterminating protists.
  • Avalanche - In charge of hunting down dangerous life forms.
  • Testament - In charge of the search and recovery of debris scattered by the ship, as well as the recovery of items lost on the battlefield.
  • Corepedian - In charge of visiting areas and investigation/collecting materials.
  • Land Bank - In charge of securing resources and collecting minerals.
  • Arms - Assists the Arms Company in charge of the development of Dolls and their inner weaponry.
  • Companion - A Jack of all trades, from the mediation of petty fights to the search of stray cats.

Other Tidbits

  • The concept of the game’s online mode is to be “‘loosely connected’ with other players”—to have a sense of solidarity without feeling constantly aware of other players’ presence.
  • The size of the field is five times the previous game (400 square meters) and fully seamless. However, there is loading during event scenes.
  • The map is visible on the Wii U GamePad. Each area is indicated by a hex. Touching them can perform things such as quick travel or check events.
  • The sense of speed from the previous game’s battles has been elevated, and players can attack freely while switching between short and long ranges.
  • No character explicitly serves as a healer, meaning it’s important to gauge one’s capabilities relative to those of an enemy before picking fights.
  • “Soul Voice” is a system that can be triggered in reaction to party members that are able to string their attacks well. With well-timed button presses, HP can be healed, making it possible to continuously heal while attacking.
  • Parties consist of four people: the player character and three AI companions.
  • Dolls are exceptionally powerful, but in exchange for that, their movement can’t be finely controlled, meaning they can’t take out enemy body parts. Being able to do so is important, as it can weaken them and yield items, among other things. As a result, players will have to disembark at times and fight enemies themselves.
  • A number of new “Unique Monsters” have been added compared to the previous game, some powerful enough to cross swords with the Doll robots.
  • Playtime in the game has been recorded to exceed 300 hours while doing final checks, with some elements potentially continuing endlessly.
  • There are over 90 songs featured in the game, all of which were worked on by Hiroyuki Sawano.

So can you only join a limited number of unions to do said quests? Can you join all unions? Then again, perhaps that is a good thing, since Xenoblade had a god-awful amount of quests (more than 400).

And also, being 5 times larger isn't automatically a good thing.

Great. If the world is bland, boring and underpopulated then it will become a chore just travel between areas and that's not good.

That's clearly a mistranslation. 400 square meters is the size of a house. I'm pretty sure they meant Xenoblade's world was 400 square miles or kilometers, not 400 square meters. In other words, the world of Xenoblade X will be 2000 square miles or kilometers.

From all the music we heard from all the trailers, especially the last one, I'm very excited to hear all 90 songs from Sawano.

'Tis a shame to see her no longer involved, or Yasunori Mitsuda, for that matter. But Hiroyuki Sawano is a great replacement. This might be his video game debut, but he has a great track record in scoring epic anime music.

5X as big? holy crap. that probably quite a bit bigger than cyrodil which was pretty frickin big. all seemless also.....yea i like their moxy. i can forgive a game a lot when it has long draw distances and very short or no loading screens (not that i had to forgive xenoblade a lot...loved that game).

i just hope the world is also as interesting to explore as xenoblades.

I hope it doesn't mean 5 times more sub-MMO grade grindy side quests.

I never did manage to finish Xenoblade Chronicles despite multiple attempts due to those painful side quests, and because I'm a completionist.

Just like DA:I. probably full of boring filler fetch quests that give you nothing else but 5 xp for killing 10 rats and bring back their tails. I like it big but it needs to have an interesting world/quests aka Fallout series.

Xenoblades zones may have been big but they were boring and not very exciting. It was like a single player MMORPG at times.

I've been ready for years. Xeno X being bigger doesn't do anything for me though. Sometimes bigger is better other times bigger is boring. We'll see, but I have confidence.

Gamers now get to see what Monolith could have done last gen on a non-Wii system this year on Wii U.

Monolith Soft have had half a decade to create their next big game.

its collectible. Its like showing 2 Gamecube component cables. Or 3 copies of Panzer Dragoon Saga. stuff like that.

OT the game will be excellent. I jumped into the old Xenosaga trilogy again just to relive how great Monolith Soft is.

I heard somewhere that it's 5 times bigger because of the Mech mechanics, as in the mech helps with travelling between zones, more faster, can cover more ground from flying, so the size of the game has to be bigger or it will be covered in such a short time. I guess in the game you wont have to travel by Mech so it may be possible to run the whole game, which will be amazing if possible.

But BIGGER is always BETTER, don't you know ? Who cares about the actual quality of the said quests/content, ect...

I liked Xenoblade a lot; I never got to beat it though unfortunately. I think I'm gonna go ahead and try to find time to complete it, then grab a WiiU once this drops.

Not that good actually. Destiny's main theme is better.

Destiny's main theme is okay, but it doesn't come close to the epicness of Xenoblade X's main theme.

WiiU with Zelda and this game has definilty become one of the most important players in consoles this generation. Cant wait for both titles.

Sure, bigger isn't always better, but when has Monolith Soft ever let us down? And don't say Xenosaga Episode 2. People hated on it for focusing on side characters, but it was still good.
