Xbox’s E3 to Focus on Hardcore Gamers, Some News Coming in May; No Portable Xbox Coming and More

• Spencer doesn’t think Microsoft will introduce a dedicated handheld gaming device. Instead they’ll work on Windows Phone and tablets, maybe with controller support some day.
• Spencer wants to make E3′s show more focused on the fans and he’s looking for ideas to make them feel like the conference is for them even if they aren’t in Los Angeles.
• The main focus will be on hardcore gamers.
• There was an idea to make Cortana the voice of the show, but Spencer didn’t like it. He likes the Windows Phone feature but doesn’t want to overdo it.
• Fans won’t have to wait for Tokyo Game Show to see Japanese Xbox games (possibly meaning that we’ll see them at E3).
• This year Microsoft will show “stuff we are committed to, from top studios, for this year and future.”
• We’ll get a “couple of things” announced before E3. May “Should be a good month for news.” It took Spencer a month to get the plans set.
• Spencer has strict orders not to talk “about anything related to a 343i IP” before E3.
• Both new IP and sequels will be announced at this year’s show.

Also Spancer dosent want Microsoft to come on stage and talk about Window Phone, tablets and other stuff like that. Spancer says he wants to make all about games, games and only games.

Also looks like Spencer wants 1 thing but Microsoft will force to put some Window, Tablet and Phone stuff at stage. I still think Phil Spencer is best choice for Xbox.

When are people going to realize tat this is never going to happen, it gets posted in system wars probably 50 times a week. If you don't like Kinect and don't want to pay for it, you can wait until it's cheaper OR not buy an X1 at any point at all. MS is committed to the Kinect support, which is pretty much improved every update.

Kinect is part of Xbox One. Microsoft said no matter what, they never remove Kinect from Xbox One

People want press conference. Last year it was so confusing and 90% people picked Microsoft E3 over Nintendo E3 2013. Just giving random gameplay videos and news all over the internet at same time is confusing and bad. Looks like Nintendo dosent learn.

Let's hope they don't bring Cirque Du Soleil again, because that's what they usually mean when they say "all about the games".

How does it feel that you have to troll to say something positive about the XBone?

Stark contrast from the xbox's dark day post 2009, when MS decided to drop core and go upwards of 65% casual to chase theWii's pot of gold with Kinect(lol).

Let's hope they learned their lesson that Kinect(lol) is the biggest joke in console gaming history and best to leave it for media navigation if anything at all.

Well, Microsoft didn't really lie when they said their last E3 would focus on games (their last E3 did have alot of games, albeit many of which didn't really excite mee that much). I'm interested to see if they manage to follow through with their words again.

Yeah that was a long time ago and they also say that DRM could not be turn off like a switch,and we all know the rest of the story almost 3 million units behind sony is reason enough to kill it and lower the price of the unit to $399.

I won't deny the media shitstorm Sony cooked up allowing used games and all that crap. Too bad they only announced The Order though. One game announcement. Pathetic LOL

'Hardcore' - Not sure ol' Philly or MS knows what that word means anymore

I stand by the notion that a price drop with Kinect is far better long-term than a price drop while losing Kinect. I see the potential and I think it'll be the indie devs that game-wise bring it out. App wise there's great potential as well. But a number of potential buyers don't want to pay for Kinect and see no use for it or promise of that changing, and I do understand that. They can buy a cheaper One, sell Kinect, use that money for a game or maybe keep it in the closet until something catches their eye. This is one of those cases where early losses can be made up since we are barely 5 months into the gen. MS needs the One in at $350-$399 with Kinect still in that box. Once you drop it out of the box all possibility of devs making use of it flees as they will worry not as many will have the device. Again, those who have no interest in Kinect but want a Xbox One need not ever install the thing. But it should be there so MS can try and change their minds.

Back on topic, Love the all games focus, but am hoping for a smaller side show where we get tons of new apps, TV stuff, Xbox Fitness updates, Kinect-centric apps. Need not be E3 stage at all, but maybe a 30 minute thing. We shall see.

I think it should be obvious by now MS understands how badly hey screwed the XBone reveal a year ago, and Spencer's biggest job right now is just getting people talking about games again. If he can't move gamers beyond the weaker hardware, the mandatory Kinect so few want, the TV TV TV, the price, ect. then It's only going to get worse for Xbox going forward.

So they'll push games hard this year at E3. Only thing to wonder is how their pipeline compares to Sony? If MS puts together a comparable show to Sony - even gets close - then MS "wins" E3, because expectations for them are so low.

I'm hoping that a lot of these new games are good and the Xbox One gets a price drop before holiday of this year. I want to pick one up but I need more reason than just Halo 5 to justify. A $399 price tag would be much more desirable as well as a bunch of good games.

If they really cared about hardcore gamers they'd offer a bundle that doesn't include Kinect. With Kinect optional, M$ could either drop the price of the Xbone by $100, or leave the price as is and bundle a free one year subscription to Xbox live plus a couple of games. That would definitely suffice in attracting a lot of hardcore gamers, including me.

All I know is that E3 needs to be focused on 1080p/ 60FPS if they want to get people's attention.

They don't need to drop Kinect. They need to eat the 100 dollar loss and sell it for $399. Dropping the Kinect and charging $399, when going against a console that is more powerful is not a price drop? They must keep the value in the package.

We'll see I guess. MS had the better games at last years E3. They just made the mistake of going before Sony, and announcing all their DRM stupidity first.That pretty much killed everything else for them.

I respectfully disagree. Remember, we're talking about M$ appealing to hardcore gamers here, and hardcore gamers have no use for Kinect. I don't want one, and none of my friends who owned a 360 have bought one primarily because of Kinect and Xbone's subpar specs. M$ is losing this gen so far because they have alienated hardcore gamers, which is why Spencer is now attempting to refocus M$' efforts on winning them back.

Try to employ some logic here. Why do you think the 360 was such a resounding success? Was it because the 360 acted as some kind of half-assed, jack-of-all-trades, swiss-army-knife TV hub, appealing to soccer moms and Nintendo kiddies, or because of its appeal to hardcore gamers? Which group do you think bought more 360's and made it the best selling console for much of the 7th gen? The same formula will work for the Xbone as well. Again, if M$ is really serious about winning back hardcore gamers they'll stop dicking around and offer hardcore gamers what they really want without gimmicks.
