Xbox One S = GOAT console revision?

I'm actually a lot more impressed with my new S than the Pro I just received a day ago. I was planning on having the S temporary until the Scorpio releases. However I've already grown quite fond of it to the point I'll either stick with it and skip Scorpio, or get Scorpio AND keep it around.

• great exterior design (full matte finish, tons of ventilation, looks beautiful)
• better hardware
• gone with the brick
• improved controller
• IR
• whisper quiet (literally hear nothing at all to the point I wouldn't know it is on if it wasn't for the front led light)
• 4K up scaling, streaming support for both games and movies
• HDR

It's exciting to see what MS have in store with Scorpio. We already now that it is FULL 100% BC with ALL 360 titles and the 6 teraflops. Slim revisions are usually to cut cost and remove features. MS actually went the other way around. If they did this with the slim, who knows what they'll do with their flagship upgrade coming next year.

I'd recommend upgrading if you already own the OG Xbone especially to those with 4K displays.

The Xbox one S is the console that ms should have released in the first place. Great revision.

But my all time favorite revision is the ps1, the PS one. That thing was small, sleek, and even had a mini screen that could connect to it. All around it was just really well done. I have both models of ps1 and still use the PS one.

The S is a nice revision but the only thing it has going for it is a 4K blu ray, and nice design. I picked up a pro and it's quiet and the design is sharp. Better hardware? not sure what you mean by that as its almost 3 times slower than the Pro. PS4 has always had built in power supply and it's UI is the fastest in the games, especially on the Pro.

Should I trade my trusty OG One for the S? I don't have nor plan for 4k tv any time soon.

@nfamouslegend: Better hardware than the OG Xbox which usually doesn't happen with slim revisions. The comparison I made all pointed against the original Xbox One design. Anyway, the Pro I had was horrendously loud but I'm exchanging it for another one soon and hope that it is quiet like a lot are claiming.

Nah, just buy Scorpio and when you do eventually get a 4K TV you'll be all set.

Honestly I would if you have a 1TB. GS was taking about $200 for that and the new 1TB S bundles are $300. Trade in the game and you have a nice upgrade for 50-60 dough out of pocket.

It depends if you want to keep spending Hundreds of dollars on buying revised consoles over and over to play the same games.

Personally, I'm happy with my Xbone and have no interest in buying the same console over (Xbone S) and over (Xbone Scorpio) as there are already too many great games to buy across multiple platforms.

Also, the Xbone S is the same Xbone you love with 4K upscaling Blu-Ray ability, a capability that you don't plan on using anytime soon.

Picked up my Pro today and hopefully my Xboner S is in tomorrow...will be able to compare then ;)

I upgraded to xbox one S when I got my 4k hdr tv. I love it, its a great re design. Its pretty, silent, and the upscaling works well. Mad max in 4k is fun, but I wish more UHD movies were available.

Got my PRO on launch day. I like it a lot, but mostly find myself going to non enhanced games. I started obsessing over Resogun again! The one game Im playing again that I said wow is ratchet and clank. If you have a 4k tv and a pro, buy ratchet and clank.

HDR has me really interested, but that'll be for my next TV, which i''ll spend bank on. I'm probably good until the next iteration of "consoles." The S is pretty damn impressive for a remodel.

It's quite funny how the Xbox One S, Scorpio and the egregiously underwhelming PlayStation 4 Pro have got people singing a different tune as of late...

X1S is the console MS should have launched but didn't, still I'm not going to unplug my original X1 to plug my new X1S, actually the only reason I purchased a X1S is because it's the GOW4 edition.

I never belittled the PlayStation 4, for the bulk of time it has existed the justification for its sales metrics as it stood on its own were more than mysterious, mysterious enough for even Sony to not even know or understand why it was selling to the degree it was. Not until the last year or so has it come into its own, it's fine now and I have no problem with it or how it stands as a system now, but for the first two years I had no Earthly idea why there was hype for it, it had mostly nothing going on, average games that were nothing remarkable and was very bare bones in terms of actual features or anything being added to it.

That reality the system faced for its first two years on the market cannot be overlooked, it was completely unremarkable and selling like it printed you money..

P.S. PlayStation 4 Pro is a total step backwards for Sony, why they released such a half-cocked system is beyond me.

P.P.S. That Uncharted 4 thread was satire aimed at the stupidity of this forum and people making those very same kind of threads about Xbox games...

Internally it's definitely the best revision. Slightly better performance and graphics, 4K Bluray.

Getting rid of the power brick, the new size, look, and paint job, it looks 1000x times better than the VCR launch model. But I also think the PS3 Slim looks 1000x times better than the launch PS3, so they tie in that regard.

The changes seem solid, but what would one really expect with a mid cycle refresh?

A bigger question would be why the PS4 Pro is missing a 4k Bluray.

A competitor missing something doesn't mean Microsoft went above and beyond. Seems more like they pulled their heads out of their asses and Sony inserted.

Well, I dunno if you want to include handhelds. But if so:

1. Introduction of back light

2. Clam shell design was sleek and made it very portable.

It is a nice improvement but I think the DS Lite is my favorite. Super sleek design, better feeling and placed buttons, much nicer screens and better battery life. The Phat is an absolute clunker in comparison.

Don't care what Xbox bring out. They've permanently lost me after how they handled the Xbox One in it's first year and now with the loss of exclusives... You don't treat your gamers like that. I'd get a PS console or a Nintendo console, that's it.
