Xbox One a flop in Japan

#1 Posted by Kjranu (915 posts) -

The Japanese launch of Microsoft's Xbox One fell flat Thursday, with journalists covering the debut far outnumbering buyers.

...

But the usual enthusiastic crowds that greet big launches in Japan were absent on Thursday morning, with just one buyer at a major electronic retailer in Tokyo.

Nobody is surprised not MS not even the biggest MS fanboy.

Especially since Xbox not being popular in Japan is so shocking.

@Kjranu: And this is a surprise? The Xbox and Xbox 360 were both non-sellers in Japan. Further proof that Japan is becoming irrelevant.

We've already got three Xbone threads on the front page, we don't really need another.

PS4 isn't selling too hot over there either

Oh thank the lord our resident super hero 'Captain Obvious' was here to tell us this, now you can set right all those who thought it would fly off the shelves... Oh wait.

Dude, I think every man and his dog expected a low turn out, including MS. I personally expect it to be among the lowest selling devices in the country along side the 'Polystation' and 'Super Megason'.

Brilliant logic there, m8. The PS4 is Japanese and it's the fastest selling console in a long time.

lol japan, china is the market ms will thrive in + all the other countries x1 hasnt released in like indonasia and afghanistan.

#21 Posted by Wasdie (49608 posts) -

In order for there to be a flop there has to be expectations first.

There were no expectations for the Xbox One's launch in Japan.

According to polls (multiple polls), PS4 is more anticipated in China than XB1. Just sayin son.

Well.. Off to see what nxtgen720, Crapgamer and the gang have to say about this LOL.

The good thing for the Japanese Xbox division is, they don't need to spend alot of money on warehouses to hold their Xbox One inventory. They simply keep the entire country's supply housed in a small shed in the backyard of the company's CEO.

Well we all know blackace will just spin it all by saying "bu.. buh PS4z not much bettah!1" When let's face it, is doing FAR better than what XB1 will lol. PS4 is doing badly in Japan, while XB1 Japanese launch was a complete disaster. It's actually pretty annoying how insular Japan are tho.

@Aljosa23: what are you talking about? Where is it that ps4 is Japan's fastest selling console in a long time? All I could find was that Japanese sells are disappointing and the the ps3 and wiiu outside it at least in July

I never said it was Japan's fast selling console, I said in general - which is true. Check the sales of NA and Europe. His post made it seem like the Japanese game industry itself was irrelevant. Even then if you talk about sales in Japan you can't ignore the staggeringly good sales of handheld games. A better post would have been "Japan is irrelevant when it comes to console sales".

Dumbass.

Instead of wasting money on rise of the Tomb Raider they could of went after Persona 5 or Monster Hunter. Probably would have been cheaper too.

Only 12% of PS3 sales came from Japan, too.

Brilliant logic there, m8. The PS4 is Japanese and it's the fastest selling console in a long time.

There is a difference between the Japanese market and a Japanese company. Only 12% of PS3 sales came from Japan...

#38 Posted by LegatoSkyheart (24844 posts) -

Again. What game on the Xbox One actually caters to the Japanese Market?

Nintendo WiiU had Dragon Quest X (beta) and Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate out at Launch over there.

PS4 had freakin' Yakuza, oh and it also had The Final Fantasy XIV PS4 beta and there were 2 Niche Japanese games there like a weird Visual Novel Mah-Jong game.

Not to mention most of the offerings for the Xbox One are available for the PS4 as well. what was MICROSOFT thinking? They should have had a iDOLM@STER game lined up I mean there was one for the freakin' 360. Where's Dynasty Warriors? Is there a game there for the kids? Surely you should be set up to fight Nintendo I mean their console is actually doing well over there, beating out the PS4.

Microsoft had this coming.

Why doesn't Microsoft just give up in Japan? No one in Japan wants big, ugly consoles that look like VCR's with a huge power brick. I thought the new Microsoft CEO would have known better.

#43 Posted by Telekill (4389 posts) -

I think it's obvious by now that...

1. Japan doesn't care for the Xbox brand and never has.

2. Japan doesn't care about console gaming anymore.

Looks like they don't want big ugly consoles that look like erasers either huh.

Japan is irrelevant now and has been since the 7th gen. MS proved that by selling 80+ million and selling virtually nothing in Japan. Japan has become a small market for consoles now and the PS4 sales numbers are proof.

And at this moment in time only 6-7%, which will only get smaller unless the Japanese start buying a lot of PS4's

#48 Posted by Dire_Weasel (15966 posts) -

Nice sour grapes in this topic. Obviously, the Japanese don't want an Xbox One, so now "Japan is irrelevant".

So far the Playstation 4 has sold 678k units in Japan, LTD. There is a significant market there, and it's not going anywhere.
