Microsoft’s fourth quarter and full 2016 financial report has been revealed and though specific sales numbers haven’t been mentioned, it still offers an idea on where the Xbox brand stands.

Hardware revenue is down by 33 percent and while it’s likely due to less consoles being sold, it’s also important to note that consoles have been priced lower than in the past. Gaming revenue fell by 9 percent year on year or $152 million while Xbox Live monthly active users increased by 33 percent to 49 million users overall. Roughly three million users became active since the firm’s third quarter 2016 results.

Company revenue is at $20.6 billion for the quarter, reflecting a decline of seven percent year on year, while net income is $3.1 billion. Total revenue for 2016 is $85.3 billion while net income is at $16.8 billion.

Will the hardware revenue see better numbers in the coming year especially with the Xbox One S out in August? Stay tuned in the coming weeks to find out

I think part of this has to do with the announcement of 2 new consoles, and the other part is that the X1 may have peak for as popularity. The unit is still making money and that is all that matters.
