XBox for Windows Mobile games being delisted

#1 Edited by Shewgenja (8440 posts) -

More troubling news for the Windows Mobile platform and the initiative to use XBox as a penetration vehicle. Moreso, it seems that their developer relations and publishing directives for games is coming back to haunt them.

Sauce.

Maybe because Windows Phones suck?

Maybe MS doesn't want developers to own their IP's now which is why the games are being de-listed.

The small segment of Windows Phone users probably wont care,

It's one thing to lose future products behind closed doors, but it would seem that the model deteriorated to the point of affecting current projects. No good.

Does anyone realy care? Do you realy care TC?

I'm full of care. The XBox brand floundering in the booming mobile space? Yes. It's important. Especially when you consider the fact that MS bought Nokia to compete in this space.

Yes, it does matter. It might not matter to a lot of people who have chosen competing products, but that's the crux of the matter. Pain in the game.

Of course he doesn't care but its bad news for MS so he reports on it

I don't understand. Why are they removing games from their store? What am I not understanding?

I like MS. I use Windows at work all the time as well as for gaming. This is XBox related. If you're going to typecast me, get it right.

Oh sorry didn't know you had a windows phones since this seems more like windows phone problem. I would think mostly people that have or want windows phone would care.

For the uninformed clueless readers, all the top WP8 games are self published, non-Xbox games. For example, Order and Chaos Online battle arena, Blitz Brigade online FPS, Asphalt 8, Angry Bird RPG, Royal Revolt 2, Minion Rush and etc are all free on WP8 without the Xbox Label.

I have an HTC windows phone 8 and I don't care at all. Got the phone cheap, it works great, great camera, great audio for music. I have tried but just don't get into gaming on my phones.

Great, that's totally a good way to inspire confidence in the userbase that you intend to support the platform.

I'm giving Telus until the end of August to release Windows Phone 8.1. If they don't, I'm selling my Lumia 1020 and upgrading to a Note 3 (yes, I know the Note 4 is coming next year, but I can't wait that long for a functional phone). Unless I can find a cheap, used S3/4 to wait with.

@foxhound_fox:

I am using WP8.1 on my Lumia 920 already. It is pretty easy to do too.

That's unfortunate, although I own a Windows Phone and I think it's great, I just could never game on it too much.....smart phone screens are just too small for that. I guess this also includes the Xbox games for their surface tablets, and I'm surprised they de-listed a game like Harvest, it was the only one I got for my tablet and it was a good game(like a sci-fi kind of Diablo).

In a way I'm happy they were not too successful in the mobile space, I want them to concentrate their efforts on the Xbox One.

My Brother!!!

Yeah, Windows Phone 8 is a great OS. Very under-appreciated but it has been getting a lot of official apps lately. Not to mentioned it finally surpassed the Amazon Kindle Fire Appstore.

#21 Posted by Shewgenja (8440 posts) -

Is this is the part of the thread where I'm told to leave BritneyBox alone by a bunch of people who love to flood System Wars with completely non-game related news about other companies they don't like? Because that would be great!

#22 Posted by starjet905 (1857 posts) -

As a Windows Phone user, all I can ask is "am I supposed to care?". I bought a Windows Phone because it was a cheap phone that gets the things I want done. If I wanted to play games or use a lot of apps in general, I would've gone for an Android. I don't think many people who want to play games on their phones are buying anything with Windows Phone on it, so this probably isn't going to affect many people.

That said, Microsoft should be trying to change that factor, instead of solidifying it further with this kind of thing.

#23 Edited by delta3074 (17867 posts) -

Nobody that owns a windows phone will care, you don't buy a windows phone for gaming, if you want a phone for gaming you buy an android phone.

If you buy a windows phone for gaming you are doing it wrong, lol

That's what I'm saying. It takes effort.

Lolz, gaming hot free non-Xbox games on my Windows Phone right now. Lets be clear, Windows Phone has some Xbox games, other phone has zero. In fact, windows phone has infinitely more Xbox labeled games than other phones. All phone including Windows Phone have tons of popular free 3D non-Xbox games. They better kill the Xbox label soon, because this is getting ridiculous when people are completely ignorant about the gaming catalog.

@magicalclick: If you are talking about the developer preview, I tried that already. It went through the update process and nothing happened. I followed all the instructions and it took almost 20 minutes to install (to me that suggests a huge update).

It was really weird. And either way, I'm almost set on switching back to Android now. Even with all the upgrades, it won't have the Google Play store.

#28 Posted by magicalclick (22426 posts) -

@foxhound_fox:

Do update again just to make sure you have the latest. Or just switch to Android, looks like you already made up your mind anyway. Still, it would be fun to try out Cortana before you switch.

Thats what you get from not owning an iPhone.
