Xbox 360 or PS2 overall?

I have no idea why the libraries were narrowed down to 100 games from MC. If I'm going to compare the machines, it seems I should compare the total libraries available to me, not a random 100 list.

What system had the most high quality RPGs total? Racing? Action? Same for other genres. Top 100 means nothing to me if a machine has more than 100+ amazing games. That means some amazing games are getting cut off.

Does this include the other systems in its gen?

If so, PS2. If not, 360.

Can we have a new poll where we all decide whether or not you should keep posting insanely stupid threads?

It'll be sacrilege to some but I prefer 360. I don't care for JRPGs mostly but adore WRPGs, so obviously 360 pulls ahead there. Most genres like FPS, TPS, racers, sports, fighters, action adventure, puzzle were better on 360. Plus XBLA was a whole new world of smaller scale + indie games, 360 online was obviously better, and (oddly) 360 4 player split screen was better too (Halo, better Fifa/PES, Worms, Castle Crashers, Trials, Hydro Thunder, Bomberman, etc) And of course, HD graphics too :D

PS2 is godly, but 360 is even godlier for me :P

Yeah, it's pretty much JRPGs, 3D platformers and free online on the PS2 side, that I can think of. I think every other genre and bullet point would be 360s.

Second to what? GameCube? SNES? Neogeo?

PS2, not even close. 2009 happened for 360.

I'm sure I missed some genres. Reliability is maybe the only plus I'd give the ps2. Of course there's the entire psx library that can go along with it, too. However even then most of it is mainly just rpgs. I always get a bunch of negative responses when I am critical of the ps2 but the reality of the situation is that it has a bunch of mediocre rpgs(mechanically) and there tend to be better versions of games available elsewhere. Plus that nasty 480i.

Hard to say really. PS2 has been discontinue, Xbox 360 is still living and I just think comparing the 2 isn't the best way. If this was all about the original Xbox vs PS2, then we be really talking. Then gain, we have the Retro forum for that anyways. That said, I enjoy them both but I can't vote on this cause Xbox 360 is still being supported while PS2 is dead. Deader then Elvis-Sam Fisher.

@Heirren: Well 2D platformers is 360, 3D is PS2 tho.

360 also RTS (if you care about playing those on console), TBS in Civ Rev, city builder in Tropico series, "creation" (lack of better term) games in Minecraft and Terraria, better music games (later Rock Band entries, Rocksmith) and so on.

I mean, gaming DOES improve on a constant basis, PS2 won it's gen but it can't be expected to somehow stay on top forever.

I never thought it was the best console, even during that time. It may have been the best console to buy for newcomers because it had something for everyone, but there are very few games on the PS2 which are industry defining.

I'm curious what made these people, the ones that call it the best ever, run out and buy it. Xbox and Gamecube both had higher quality releases.

And then comes in the mushy analog buttons--feels like a busted controller.

There are heaps of defining games on PS2 though. Xbox and GC each had their handful of classics, PS2 had quantity AND quality though.

Putting any system against the PS2 just isn't fair. I liked both, but PS2 had more games and better ones at the top of the tree quite frankly.

360. Here's why.

Better control, an actual UI, better online, video and game chat, Usb capabilities right off the bat, better graphics, better library, loads of arcade titles and indies, avatar, apps etc etc.

To be honest, I liked my Gamecube better than the PS2, even though PS2 has loads of obscure exclusive 3rd party games and exclusives.

The PS2 is the greatest console ever, matched maybe by the SNES. The Xbox 360, as great as it is, simply cannot hope to compete with that.

PS2 is the best console of all-time, so that. 360 is cool too.

Metacritic doesn't even scratch the surface for painting a picture of PS2s lineup. It's stupidly weighted to compare the top 100 games on each platform instead of picking an arbitrary number like number of games rated 80 or 85+. The 360 gets blown the **** out.

Why compare a console that got ADD halfway through it's generation chasing after motion controls to the uncontested heavyweight champion of most games on a console ever? Dumbest thread literally ever, unless the aim was to prove that around 1/4 of this forum will literally vote for an XBox to vote for an XBox and then you're on to something.

Of course the 360 does things better and therefore has an edge, but man did the PS2 have a lot of games.

I'm not even a fan of the PS2, but I voted for it for the sheer number of games and the fact that every other PS2 didn't have a RROD.

360 had a solid games library with awesome games but PS2's is just way better...

Way dude way. The DC was creative, fresh, and interesting....unfortunately bad business decisions from SEGA and the looming release of the PS2 killed it. Still imagine the landscape if SEGA had continued. They were always trying new ideas....something lacking today by any of the three console makers.

I mean, I guess so. But it's not like Nintendo weren't trying new things with the Wii and the DS. And they took off big time. I did like the Dreamcast mind you, mainly for it's staple of shoot em ups which were excellent and challanging as ****. And what better place to play Marvel vs Capcom? I also loved Power Stone and Crazy Taxi too. But I just can't see how it beat the PS2 in my personal opinion. At least from a library perspective. It's all opinion of course, I just wanted to state mine on the matter is all.

ps2 hands down. this wasnt even close. now if you compare ps2 to snes then we would actually have to think about it

Hahaha....I did say the PS2 was a hell of a system. I just loved my DC and at least it was the same gen as the PS2 which the 360 was not.

360 is far better, in my opinion. Both have a massive library, but 360 clearly have more games i like (WRPGs, open world games, shooters, etc).
