That's not going free to play. It's implementing a system where you can buy game time with in-game currency and where players can buy in-game currency with real money.

This system is used in a lot of games. You can buy time as tokens then sell that time to other players for in-game currency.

You still have to own the base game and if you do not make enough in-game currency, you have to pay the subscription fee.

I changed the title since your original title was completely wrong.

so then similar to how Eve online works? about time they implemented a system like that

Yeah and Wildstar's C.R.E.D.D system, actually works quite well.

One of the upsides to these systems are they give a person a legitimate and completely safe means to get in game currency. Sure it won't solve the gold seller problems completely but it'll put a dent in their income and might save some accounts from getting hacked.

Didn't EVE Online invent that system?

It was a good idea back in that game, and is an even better idea here.
