The only games I've ever liked based on licenses were KOTOR and Chronicles of Riddick: EFBB. The reason they were cool? They didn't mirror the movies and try to emulate them. They expanded the universe and focused on great gameplay rather than relying on the licsense.Newnab
Exactly what I was going to say. It is with this in mind that provokes me to hype The Darkness. Hopefully, Starbreeze knocks it out of the park again.
Licensed games have a long proud history of being worse than most of the other games out there. However, that doesn't mean there can't be some real treasures . Off hand, the original TMNT arcade game was great, Spider-man has been ok a few times, personally I always wanted a home version of the X-Men arcade (finally broke down and bought the real thing) I think your enjoyment is increased if you happen to be a fan. One game that I personally bought without knowing anything about it was Buffy the Vampire Slayer Chaos Bleeds. I ended up really enjoying it, not the best game, but I'm glad I got it.
I think these games are a double edge sword. People complain when they don't follow the story (Superman Returns), but yet they want it to be surprising too. They are also under more time constraints since it's pointless to release them well after the show or movie has released.
