Yes, if it meant Gears and Halo on the go. Of course, God only knows how much fun it wouldn't be paying for Live as well as PS+ and then seeing it not have that good support. Still, the multiplayer that could happen... hnnnng

No, handhelds are pointless for adults. they are for kids to have something to do instead of paying attention in school
If it had some games I wanted then sure.
Maybe, if they made it right and it had games I want.
This.
It would depend entirely on the games, and how many of them I wanted.
Hell, the Vita has games I want but I refuse to spend that much money on a handheld when the 3DS exists.
i will buy anything if i think i'm going to get good use out of it. but it would have to have not only some pretty good games, but some other good functions too.
@Blabadon: They don't really need to make a handheld at this point as casuals gamers (especially in Japan) are either going with Nintendo or Smart Phones & Tablets. I think Microsoft would just be wasting their money if they tried to head into the handheld market right now. The PSP, PSP Go and PSVita are perfect examples at to why not to enter the handheld market.
Other crazy companies like nVidia with their NVidia Shield - http://reviews.cnet.com/consoles/nvidia-shield/4505-10109_7-35566996.html
MadCatz with their M.O.J.O. - http://madcatz.com/mojo/en-uk/
And all the rest - http://www.hongkiat.com/blog/portable-gaming-consoles-2013/
aren't going to last long in this market.
If it didn't suck, I'd entertain it. I don't know how much better you'd get than the Vita, though. If the Vita had MS properties like Halo and Gears, mmmm...
Nope.
Their cellphones already suck
Microsoft don't make phones.
Right, they don't directly make them, but Windows phone then.
I actually got one of those. It works fine but the app store is something else. It sucks pretty hard compared to iOS and Android.
@bobbetybob: i think they do now. didnt they buy nokia a few weeks ago? ar at least a big chunk of nokia.
anywho depends on the games but MS dont have a very formidable first party so it would take quite a bit of support from western 3rd parties (nintendo have japanese devs covered) to get me excited.
still...depends on the games.

Yeah the app store put me off it as well, I quite like the look of them otherwise, especially the Lumia with the ridiculous camera on it (1020 I think).
Phones make more sense for them than handhelds do anyway since they're a software company and their main focus in gaming is with online stuff.

I can agree that phones make more sense for them. Although the next time they jump on that bandwagon, they should just take Android as their OS. :P
If it had enough games I wanted, definitely. I highly doubt that it would, though, considering that a) Microsoft's own first party support is minimal as it is, and that is when they only have to support one system, b) most compelling games for handhelds come from Japan, and Japan spurns Microsoft and the Xbox, and finally c) western third parties wouldn't pick up the slack there either- they're too happy putting shit on iOS and Android to care about real handhelds.
Theres no point. All smartphones will pretty much have controllers available to them. Now the question is, will they come out with a Xbox controller for the Windows phones?
Nope, I wouldn't buy any hand-held console actually, because gaming on those things for too long is bad for the eyesight, the small screens cause eyestrain. I used to have a Nintendo DS but I realized I barely used it, and I just mostly played it at home....there aren't many opportunities to use it for what it was intended for(playing on the go).....at the time I just made the decision to completely forget about handheld gaming devices.
No, because I hate playing games on uncomfortable handhelds with small screens when I could instead be playing on a console with a comfortable controller and big screen TV. And since I'm an adult there is rarely any time when I have time to play games while I'm away from my house, so portability does not mean anything to me.
The only way that I would think about getting it would be if they had some great exclusives that were not available on consoles, had a screen size as big as the Wii U gamepad, and managed to have what thus far no other handheld has ever had which is comfortable ergonomics.
No I don't buy handheld period. I'm a grown ass man, I really have no need for a handheld. Where the hell am I going to play it? If I'm out and about I'm actually doing this thing called socializing with people or working. If honestly get that bored I whip out my phone. I'd get a windows phone though. Those Nokias are pretty sweet, my girlfriend has one.

Outside of the upcoming Surface Phone. Either way, they have handhelds, and they have connections with some XBLA games and are partially integrated with Xbox, and have been selling more and ore, so making a dedicated handheld device would either fail or canniblize windows phone.

I'm a grown ass man and I still need a handheld every once and a while. Why I have a 3ds.

He is an insecure grown ass man. That is what his issue is.

The fact that he is posting on this board raised flags that he is having issues picking what side of the issue he wants to be on. The only issue I have is carrying around two devices rather than just my iphone.
I don't know why but I really don't like handhelds.
I'll probably end up getting a Vita. But I really just hate small screens for games.
It has been a long dream of mine. In my dream it was amazing with asymmetrical analog sticks, an HD cam for Skype calls, 64GB of internal storage, 10 hour battery life....The halo game I was playing on it was awesome and borrowed heavily from CE. Then I woke up :(
