The drop in subscribers is attributed to the end of life of the current expansion, and the decrease is in line with the last expansion's decrease during its transition phase.
Despite the slip in subscriber numbers, Blizzard says that revenues for World of Warcraft are up thanks to over 1.5 million pre-orders of the upcoming Warlords of Draenor expansion. The release date will be announced very soon; remember, pre-ordering gets you an early boost to level 90.
