Windows 10 Will Release July 29th, Reservation Available

Microsoft has announced that their all encompassing Windows 10 will launch on July 29th

For those PC users with Win 7 or 8 you may have noticed a notification telling you to reserve your copy

As noted before, this will be a free upgrade for current users of Win 7 and 8

Yes. Windows 10 is a free upgrade for qualified Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1 Update and Windows Phone 8.1 devices. This free upgrade is offered for one year after Windows 10 is available. After you upgrade, Windows 10 is yours to enjoy.

And more importantly this means the release of all that Directx 12 power for PC, probably not so much for Xbox

Games developed for DirectX 12 in Windows 10 will see improvements in speed, efficiency and graphics capability.

DirectX12 is going to widen the already large gap between consoles and PC. It's scary actually.

If you were an educated PC gamer, which you clearly are not, you'd know you can disable or change every last one of those features you listed that you hate so much. For example. I didn't like the metro tiles on the start menu either, but guess what? You can right click and deselect them from the menu! WOW! What a concept! If only you took a few minutes to, what was it? EDUCATE yourself, you would know that.

is it a total free download available for one year? Or is it subscription based where you get the first year free?

nobody knows yet and it didn't say anything about being able to switch back to windows 7 it just says windows 10 is mine for life whateve rthe **** that means

It's not a subscription but I get the vibe that it's a one time upgrade, not a clean install and you wont be able to do a clean install because once you've upgraded, that's it.

I see you upgraded enough to get to Windows 7 so why not 10? You do realize that 10 is the future of Windows and you will be left out in the dark eventually. You will be passing up Direct x 12 which would be insane. Some of the biggest developers have already spoken about x 12.

Why does Microsoft keep releasing new versions of Windows instead of patching/ fixing versions that already exist?

Well for starters they do patch and fix older versions.

Obviously though you can only patch something so far... windows 10 is a rework of windows 8.

So this may be retreaded ground, but what are the major improvements for Windows 10 over 8? Sincerely interested for my gaming laptop.

I've reserved mine too, got the notification earlier today on my taskbar. I think 'reserved' is probably the wrong term. I took it to mean when it's available if you have reserved it, it will download in the background like a regular Windows update. Nothing sinister to read into it, and it's free. I'm excited, looking forward to it.

Got a popup offering me free shit. Said "ok". Don't really care though, what is it going to offer over Windows 8?

970m here's all the relevant specs: Intel Core i7 4710MQ (2.50GHz) 16GB Memory 1TB HDD 256GB SSD NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970M 3GB 17.3" Windows 8.1 64-Bit

To be totally honest I'm not sure if DX12 will be available for older OS's or if it's Win10 only. From what I've read though Win 10 is a requirement for DX12 just as DX10 was Vista only (what a **** up that turned out to be)

Yep, sorry. I'll be going from 7 to 10 myself. Everything I heard and read about 8 put me right off it. Currently weighing up new graphic cards options too.

It is one and the same and that's a damn good price for pre owned. You are going to love it - it runs like a beast, it runs relative cool as far as laptops go, and the battery life is decent.

My girl wrestles it away from me to play Pillars and I am investing a huge chunk of my life into it for Witcher. Wait till you see it running on it... my god, it is a work of pure beauty!
