Will Witcher 3 sell more on consoles?

nope

If it was coming out on ps360 I'd say yes. Since not, no. Install base on pc is larger and pc gamers have showed strong support for the franchise. It's also like 50 bucks on pc if you own at least one Witcher game.

If you mean the 2 combined, maybe. Don't think so, specially since there's no witcher presence on playstation, but there's a chance.

If you mean by platform:

Nope.

Will probably get leaked first on consoles,as usual

A lot more on consoles IMO at least till Steam, Greenman Gaming, Amazon, ect sales start happening then far more on PC. So until at least many months down the line it will sell more on consoles.

I think this game is going to need some powerful hardware to run on a PC so I'll say it will sell more on consoles.

#11 Posted by pyro1245 (416 posts) -

so becoming a console franchise means dumbing down gameplay and controls? Dragon Age II was garbage compared to Origins; it was still an alright game; and I bet the console version of Origins was crap as well since it didn't have the tactical view. Just because most people own consoles doesn't make it right. Witcher 3 will probably sell more on consoles since a lot of people own them but it'll be close. Most people will want the proper release of the game so if they have a good PC they'll get it for that.

Nope . Fanbase is much bigger on PC . Anyone , who voted for consoles don't understand that it is not always like "Yeah , consoles because ... consoles" . There are a lot of factors that affect sales . Look at Portal 2 sales ... much better on PC because it is developed by Valve , and those guys are famous among PC gamers . Same goes for CD Projekt .

So I'd say that it'll sell better on PC (specially when graphical difference is also huge) but who the f*** cares . The game is going to be awesome and that's all what matters .

#15 Posted by Heil68 (43186 posts) -

Quite possible, until Steam sales kick in.

#16 Edited by naz99 (1144 posts) -

Umm combined on consoles or separate?

Also who cares...We get the game we get to play it, CDPR is awesome and they deserve all teh monies, and that's all that matters!

#17 Posted by mjorh (655 posts) -

Nope!

#18 Posted by pelvist (4562 posts) -

On both consoles combined? Its very possible.

#19 Posted by santoron (7623 posts) -

Depends on what games release around it. If it's the only big flashy RPG around, it might. Lesser games are pulling in fantastic numbers because gen 8 owners are thirsty for games.

Who cares either way?

Order 1886 is releasing in February . Yes , it is not RPG but I think it'll get more support from Sony fans than Witcher 3 . Witcher 3 will definitely sell better on PC .

I could see that. Like I said, I can see it going either way, and either way I don't care. I just want it to sell well to support great devs.

Heck, I don't even know which platform I'll be getting it for yet. I plan on upgrading after the holidays, so it will be close.

Uhh.... Dragon Age is a console franchise now?

Then why is it released on PC the same day as consoles every time? Why is it usually better on PC?

#23 Posted by harry_james_pot (10313 posts) -

Nope.

#24 Posted by Salt_The_Fries (8278 posts) -

If it was PlaystaSheen exclusive then maybe but as it stands - no.

#25 Posted by B4X (3291 posts) -

Unfortunately with CD Projecks stance on DRM. I'm going to have to go with yes.

We'll see though.

I think that even combined sales of XO and PS4 won't come anywhere near pc ones.

The franchise is wildly popular in central and eastern europe, where majority of sales always go to PC and with each entry the popularity of the IP spiked like there. I expect the same to happen with W3. Meanwhile console audience starts almost from scratch. There's also the simple math of there being very few next-gen consoles in peoples' homes. That alone makes it almost impossible to beat PC in sales.

Anyway, it doesn't really matter..not for OP at least, because Witcher will never become console-centric franchise. CDP simply makes a lot more money out of single pc copy than console one. Consoles version would propably need to outsell PC one by 200% or more to be more profitable.

#27 Edited by SAGE_OF_FIRE (15587 posts) -

Unlikely.

#28 Posted by Sharp-Shooter89 (116 posts) -

consoles will outsell the PC version as always for the short term, however over the years PC will catch up and surpass just like every other game

consoles are quick in sales pc is usually slow and steady over years for example as of right now GTA4 is number 1 in steam sales, along with L.A noire in the top ten, granted they are on sale but it's still selling, civ 5 is second place selling at a full price of 50 dollars, and thats a 4 year old game

#29 Posted by lamprey263 (22653 posts) -

not sure, but it will most definitely be pirated more on PC

#30 Posted by Suppaman100 (3695 posts) -

Yes of course even though next-gen installbase is still low.

And we all know Witcher 3 will be downloaded like crazy by PC gamers...

#31 Posted by finalstar2007 (24881 posts) -

No idea but one thing for sure, they totally sold me on this game after watching the E3 trailer so this shall be my first Witcher game, getting it on PS4

#32 Edited by m3dude1 (1028 posts) -

of course it will sell more on consoles. what did witcher 2 sell on pc? a million?

@Sharp-Shooter89 LOL gta4 will never surpass the console sales...not even close. same goes for gta5

#33 Posted by PS4hasNOgames (1231 posts) -

Ofcoarse, its a single player game therefore PC will pirate it. If all games were on pc then gaming would be dead.

I do not know, but I will be buying the digital PC version.

#36 Posted by EducatingU_PCMR (529 posts) -

Yes of course even though next-gen installbase is still low.

And we all know Witcher 3 will be downloaded like crazy by PC gamers...

No doubt about that, especially with the great price on GOG, $35.99 for the superior version. Just amazing.

True, difference being that people need to actually buy the game first, in order for the game to go into the used section.

When you only need one cracked PC version in order that every PC gamer in the world can download it.

Big difference.

And denying piracy is really foolish, why do you think PC is getting less and less AAA exclusives that can't be found on consoles? Piracy is a big problem, especially if it's a single player game like the witcher 3.

#41 Posted by Salt_The_Fries (8278 posts) -

Anyone who will pirate The Witcher 3 is a piece of shit, can we all agree on that?

#42 Edited by AdrianWerner (27954 posts) -

@Suppaman100 said:

From moral standpoint? Sure. From practical one in Witcher 3 case? No. Used sales pretty much kill sales of new copies couple months after premiere. At least a pirate might later on buy the game due to DLC, mods or some cheap sale. A guy who bought used copy won't. Either he will stick with his used copy or sell it again, which means once less copy.

At least with piracy people know it's wrong and you get crippled product. With used games the new copies actually have to compete with used ones, which are on the same shelves, are exactl the same and are actually cheaper.

Piracy didn't stop previous Witcher games from selling well on PC, so I really don't undertand why you assume this time it will somehow be any different.

Considering the game sold more than 2 million copies your comment doesn't make sense.

So what are you saying? You think used console games are worse for the industry than piracy? It seems to me you want to downplay the effect of piracy on the PC gaming industry.

Why are more former PC exclusives coming to consoles like the witcher? Of course because then they'll have a bigger market to sell their game but especially because they're missing out on so many PC sales, it's more of a compromisation.

#47 Edited by DEadliNE-Zero0 (931 posts) -

LOL at the piracy comments. Not only does DRM not have any effect on piracy, but piracy itself doesn't mean anything.

If someone pirates a game and doesn't spend money on it anyway, or only a small amount, they wouldn't have bought it anyway.

@Suppaman100 said:

The Witcher 2 is a AAA game funded by a PC only game, and was sucessfull as a PC only game. The xbox version only came out 1 year latter. Therefore, The Wicther 3, a perfect example of a AAAE level game that was funded by PC sales alone and would be profitable by PC sales alone.

Why is it on Consoles? Because why not? Why is it on the PS4 when there's no playerbase there and will probably sell less than 1 million copies like TW2 on the 360? Why is every multiplat on PC anyway? Why was Mass Effect or Bioshock on the PS3 when it sold more on the xbox and pc second?

Because 3rd party devs, like CD Projekt Red, don't have to make a game exclusive. They don't want to. They make more money by releasing in all platforms and everyone gets to enjoy the game.

And in case you missed it, more console exclusives like Dark Souls, Metal Gear, etc are coming to PC. There's even interest in bringing FF to PC. Not that i care.

#48 Posted by slimdogmilionar (431 posts) -

Console players mostly care about hype, when Witcher 2 released on xbox no one bought it because of Skyrim even though imo Witcher was the better game. PC is the Witcher's home and it has has a pretty big fanbase, I do expect it to sell well on consoles just not more than PC where the fans have been following the story since the first Withcer, most console sales will be for consolites to compare graphics I predict most won't even pay attention to the game itself.
