Its own set of games?

But I dunno what you like... your probably just trolling.. the Blu-Ray is pretty nice though. I watch movies all the time, so it is nice to have the extra bam in your movie. I like my PS3 just fine, its just not being put to as much use as my 360 at the moment. Don't worry though, it'll have its moment. The free online is a good + too. It might not be a awesome as XBL, but hey, it works, no lag. Good enough for me... but of course, not everyone is interested in it.

Blu Ray, Folding @ Home, PSN Home, Eye of Judgement, Resistance, Uncharted, WarHawk, LittleBigHome, Free Online, HDMI 1.3, Build in Wireless (60 GB model), Almost Perfect BC, Media Sharing from any OS, Upscale old games to 1080p.

PS3 has lots of stuff in it. It just needs some more games now, which they all come in the fall.

I own a 360 (that I plan to sell eventually; want a gaming notebook) and I've played a PS3. I wasn't too impressed by the PS3 to tell you the truth. The 360 is alot more managable (in terms of online capabilities and the menu itself) but then again it depends on your tastes.

Personally, compared to PC gaming, none of the next-generation systems are THAT impressive, although the 360 is the closest in my book.

I'm not at all for these next-generation discs. If a computer company offered a free Blu-Ray or HD-DVD drive as a promotion on a gaming notebook, I'd take it, but I don't think I'd really ever use it, since most of them wouldn't work in any other player in the house or the player in the SUV.

i like it because i enjoy the games i have for PS2 so much better than my Xbox games and the instant backwards compatibiliy is awesome...  plus games lik DMC 4 (former exclusive), KillZone2, MGS4, and Assassin's Creed (also former exclusive) are on my wish list...  plus the blu-ray rocks and as someone said earlier the free internet gaming is a serious plus.

He's right, the 360 has plenty of things the PS3 doesn't!  Like the red ring of death, and faulty hardware!

Super Paper Mario and Wiimote?

Sorry, even though I side with Nintendo I know Wii sucks right now. Only play 3 games on it (Truama, Godfather, SPM).

the PS3 is great because it is well-built and was not rushed through its design phase. it's quiet and efficient. it has the most longevity as a console because of its blu-ray and its HDD. the free online is competent and improving. it has a nice variety of games, present and future. lots of multimedia features. the system's performance has been constantly evolving with the consistant firmware updates.

1. Nice selection of games from past series that made the ps2 so great: MGS, Jak & Daxter, God of War, etc.

2. Great selection of killer new IPs like LittleBigPlanet (my no.1 hyped game right now), Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, Lair, Wardevil (a rather unknown game that i have very high expectations for), and many others.

3. Great media capabilities, including:

  • Streaming of movies, music, etc. from any pc, dvr, TiVo, or other DNLA enabled device.
  • Playing of Blu-Ray movies.
  • Upscaling of DVDs to 1080p
  • Various other things

4. Great Backwards compatibility, playing 98% of all ps1/2 games (if you have an older ps3 like me) and playing/upscaling to 1080p 100% of all ps1 titles and 75% of all ps2 titles.

5. Free online play with a unified log-in which will be greatly improved when Home releases this fall.

6. Powerful hardware that will give me the best gaming experience on a console this gen, due to the Cell, a standard HDD, and Blu-Ray.  A prime example of this being Uncharted, which streams everything off of the disc (textures, audio files, EVERYTHING) allowing for no load times whatsoever throughout the entire game.  They say even the demo takes up more than a DVD9, which makes sense, as in order to stream stuff from the disc, it has to take up more space than normal.

Well said. reliability of the hardware and the HDMI 1.3 are both a plus as well. I also like the fact the the developers are allowed to handle the downloadable content for their games without interference.

As far as Blu-ray goes Hd/dvd is starting to beat it out though as far as sales go and player prices.TroyM1
That statement is completely false.  I would bombard you with links showing that Blu-Ray is annihilating HD DVD, but i don't want this thread to turn into an HD DVD/Blu-Ray battle and get locked, so i will provide you with just one.

A comparison of Blu-Ray and HD DVD sales from Amazon.com

Why is Blu-Ray handing it to HD DVD? Two reaons, exclusive studios and the ps3.

Because of the ps3, there are over 10x the amount of Blu-Ray players as there are HD DVD players in people's homes.  Even if only 10% of ps3 owners actually buy Blu-Ray movies, the number would easily destory HD DVD.  However, far more than that are buying movies.

Also, Disney, Lionsgate, Fox, and Sony Pictures are all exclusively backing Blu-Ray, with Warner and Paramount supporting both sides neutrally and Universal supporting HD DVD exclusively.  Because of this, Blu-Ray is getting all the big name releases.  Casino Royale did wonders for Blu-Ray sales back in March, and Pirates of the Carribean 1&2 just came out a few weeks ago giving Blu-Ray another major sales boost, despite the fact that BLu-Ray has been ahead of HD DVD even when it has no major releases since December. Cars is due out very soon as well.

Blu-Ray continually gets major titles to spike sales, and HD DVD rarely does, if at all.  The last title to have any significant impact for HD DVD was Children of Men, which isn't exactly that great of a title.  What happens when PotC 3 comes out later this summer? Or when the Spiderman trilogy comes out later this year?  The only other big name release that HD DVD has is the Matrix Trilogy, which just came out.  However, it has done little to boost sales, as it only comes in an $80 box set, which many are timid about buying. Also, since the Matrix is from Warner, it is set to release on Blu-Ray later this year, and many are just waiting for that.  The only reason it has yet to come out on Blu-Ray is because the BR Java interactivity features are not quite ready for it yet.  Most Warner releases come out simultaneously for both formats.

Actually, Blu-Ray has garnered 96% of the HD market in Japan, and it is destroying HD DVD in Europe as well, though not by as much.  The only place that there is really any format war at all is NA.

Why is this thread so great? Really, to ask a question like that is like asking, why is the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA finals? Because they been there and won a couple championships and know how to win. :)

1.  It's an awesome movie player for someone who owns an HD television, better than non game playing movie players at the same price range even.

2  The Hardware is very well built in terms of dependability, heating.

3.  Sony is working very hard to making it the best it can possibly be.  The steady firmware releases and announcements of home show that Sony is working toward matching it's over ambitious promises.  Things like Home seem a lot more thrilling that Live anywhere.

4.  Insomniac Games is one of my favorite developers.

5.  The majority of great game will be on both systems so it comes down to 1st and 2nd party.  Sony has long term 1st and 2nd aparty developers.  Microsoft watches to see what's woring and then buys them and hopes it'll be as good for them. ie Rare.

6.  Free online is a nice perk.
