Having played both the PS4 and X1, I have this to say:

The graphics of both are pretty much the same and are not much better than the graphics of later xbox 360 games like GTA V.

The X1 is a multimedia device and is quite unique in that regard. The PS4 is not.

The controller of the PS4 is as BAD as the rest of the playstation controllers. The sticks are too loose and are placed in the same awkward parallel position: this makes it almost impossible to play first person shooting games with the level of accuracy you have on xbox controllers.

The PS4 is simply the PS3 with marginally better graphics. PC graphics of 3-4 years ago are better/same than both systems.

Agreed. What is different aside from graphics with the PS4 compared to any other console before it? The One feels like a next gen system because not only does it have the better exclusives but it has better multimedia and it will go perfectly with my PC.

Next gen has always been about increased power. MS should have just released the new Kinect for 360 because that is all you lemmings seem to care about are non-gaming features. The Xbone itself can't run games at a higher resolution than 360 so its pointless.

#5 Posted by djexertive (150 posts) -

@XxR3m1xInHDn3D: People never seem to address the point that aiming with great accuracy in competitive first person shooters is almost impossible with the playstation controllers. Major League Gaming and other gaming leagues ALWAYS have the games on xbox 360's because playstation's controllers are horrible.

#6 Posted by Muffin2020 (527 posts) -

Are you trying to convert us or justify your choice? It's got hard to tell with all these desperate threads.

#7 Edited by EZs (1360 posts) -

@djexertive: Who says PS4 is not a multimedia box? it can play 3D blu-ray and it comes with Netflix and Hulu plus in the US at launch I heard.

#8 Posted by rrjim1 (910 posts) -

The OP is correct and the reason why I won't be purchasing a PS4 at launch, maybe down the road if it has enough games I want to play.

#9 Edited by djexertive (150 posts) -

@muffin2020: I'm actually buying both.

Yep and that fact is backed up even more because of all the 3rd party Playstation controllers that have asymmetrical sticks.

You obviously haven't tried the Dualshock 4. Most people seem to like it more than the Xbone controller.

Yet there have been people that prefer the DS3 to the DS4. It doesn't surprise me really as Sony have tried to perfect the DS for over 18 years and it's simply never gonna work for them with that awful stick layout that makes it seem like every game is played using the d-pad for movement.

Do you remember playing an FPS on PS1, PS2, and PS3? How about on the two xboxes? Which sticks/layout gave you more precision? There's your answer.

Not to the same extent as the X1, but yeah as much of a multimedia device as the 360/ps3.

I don't know why they never changed it from the PS1. That boomerang controller woulda been an upgrade.

Yep at least it would return back to you when you throw it in frustration due to the awful stick layout.

Compared to everyone else that is using the same PS3 controller. The PS3 COD players would get destroyed by the 360 players if they both were hypothetically allowed their respective controllers.

If you used your brain you would see that the only thing the PS4 has on the X1 is a lower price. The exclusives are not better, the controller is not, the interface is not, the ability to combine everything into one device is not present (media device).

PS4 is simply the PS3 with upgraded visuals. That is all.

But PS4 is a game machine, xbox one is for people who aren't really gamers. xbox 1 is as much of a gaming device as a dvr receiver but if you want a gaming console PS4 is far superior.

your point is stupid since this a gaming site and not a smart TV app forum. There are hdtvs that have been doing everything the xbone dose for a while now. The xbone is a waste of money only being a filter for everything you can already do without it.

Nope, not true. Conveniently enough I've had first hand experience with that exact scenario.

Funny how you cows keep trying to downplay multimedia features when there was a higher percentage of people using netflix on PS3 than there were playing games.

I'm not surprised TC, i almost bought into the PS4 hype but everyone knows it'll fall flat.

The exclusives are not better on the PS4. The X1 is as much a game machine as the PS4. It's just a game machine + other cool stuff that would be convenient...and the controller is more made for FPS games. For example, while you're watching TV you can get game invites and make the decision to play or watch TV.

Newsflash: people buy game consoles to play games. Not to watch TV.

#38 Posted by Szminsky (1433 posts) -

@djexertive: I'd be sure to pick up some multiplats along the way. But yeah, thinking about it, buying a whole console for just one game might be a bad idea. I bought the 360 just for mass effect (which I loved), so I'm kind of an impulse consumer. Money is not that much of an issue for me though :)

#39 Posted by AutoPilotOn (8523 posts) -

@Szminsky: the Xbox one would have to fail pretty bad for kinectless version. The kinect experience is what they are pushing so hard to be different and next gen.

Don't act like Sony's first party studios won't be making great exclusives for PS4 over the next 10 years. PS4 will also have the superior multiplats this time around.

The PS controller only started magically becoming bad after the the 360 came out. No one ever thought it was bad by any stretch of imagination during the PS1 and PS2 days. Nobody even complained about it. But just because the 360 controller was better, it doesn't make the PS one bad. It's like drinking regular coffee for most of your life and never had an issue with it until you started buying expensive coffee. IMO, if something doesn't immediately feel bad until you have something better to compare it to, then it's not actually bad. Your standards have just gone up.

And it's funny that your post was written to downplay the importance of whatever the PS4 is better at, and up-play the things the X1 is better at. Kinda like 'cognitive dissonance'. But anyway, out of all the things related to gaming, which could be better - games, graphics, experience etc., you instead chose to glorify multimedia and the physical controller itself. If those are your priorities in deciding which game machine to buy, you might wanna consider the gadget industry instead. That's where the product features and physical aesthetics matter the most.

@AutoPilotOn: well, that is what's bothering me. Kinect 2.0 feels to me just like that: kinect 2.0. I wasn't even the slightest interested in the original kinect. Same goes for the wii-mote and ps-move. A hundred bucks extra for something that I couldn't be less bothered about is what's keeping me away. Money is really not the issue here... I just don't buy something I don't want or need.

#46 Posted by ShoTTyMcNaDeS (2101 posts) -

This is the same exact scenario as the start of the last generation and in the end the PS4 had the better exclusives because of their first party developers. The fact is once you get beyond the launch window on the X1, the only game that is assured of some big success is Titanfall. You cant possibly count on Sunset Overdrive or Quantum Break as so little is known at this point. After that, you are getting into the same old, same old with the XBOX ONE with Halo 5, Fable and Kinect centric games. For anyone to believe that MS has somehow changed their ways suddenly is just being foolish. The EXPERTS know what they are talking about when it comes to these consoles! The PS4 is simply the better, more powerful console and one that has the highest ceiling as far as gaming goes!!! Track records speak volumes on this topic!

how you work that one out??? most xbox fanboys have stated that the DS4 is miles better and it was also designed with the help of bungie for first person shooters i've heard no one say that the DS3 is better :S

and at the TC how do you work out that ps4 is just a ps3 with slight upgrade it has a complete built in community feel to it.

Xbox one is pretty much an xbox 360 a multimedia hub which is intriguing??? it has a poirt you can put your cable box through at a cost which gives you just a overlaid tv guide??? ps4 does all the multimedia things the xbox one can do except this.

i wish you'd put points across which are actual facts.

#49 Edited by djexertive (150 posts) -

@jhcho2: The PS4 has marginally better graphics according to many reports. The exclusives so far are marginally better on the X1. I have a fully decked out gaming PC connected to a 60'' TV, so the graphics of both are not what I care about; they both suck relatively compared to PC. The main reason people are hyping of PS4 so much is that it's 100 bucks cheaper and the initial DRM announcement alienated so many people.

#50 Edited by cmat35 (89 posts) -

Instead of taking this approach you guys should really use all your energy to hammer M$ into dropping that price and making the Kinect optional. Once you do this many of us would buy the thing and own both consoles just like last generation.
