Why EDGE gave Bayonetta 2 a 10/10

EDGE said in its review that “Bayonetta 2 is in many ways a perfect fit for Nintendo, with its bright blue skies, its easy charm, its relentless procession of ideas and its immaculately tuned controls.”

Other tidbits from the publication’s review:

- “best-in-class set of combat mechanics”

– Can be enjoyed by new players as well as those who are more familiar

– Other similar games “hide their greatest prizes behind a skill barrier that may take dozens of hours of study and practice to surmount”, but Bayonetta 2 “simply asks that you keep pressing buttons”

– Umbran Climax mode “adds yet another layer of dazzling spectacle”

– Praise for the visuals and colors

– “There is still nothing quite like it”

– “There are stumbles along the way”, but EDGE believes the only thing wrong is how closely Bayonetta 2’s formula is similar to the first game

– This might have been more of a problem if the genre had advanced in the past 5 years, but no one “has even come close to pushing it”

– Issues with the first game have been ironed out

– Mid-cinematic QTEs and shooting mini-game between missions are gone

– Enemy weapon picks are a bonus instead of a penalty

– Pacing improved

– Cut-scenes “are a good deal snappier”

– EDGE says you could “play and replay forever” because of the different accessories, weapons, hidden battles in chapters, online co-op, and more

Arrrrghhh this is very painful because I wanna play that game so bad, but I don't want to buy a new Wii-U :(. First world problem I suppose, but the pain is real :(.

Nothing came close to pushing it in Gameplay? How about Wonderful 101.... oh wait another PLATINUM GAME.

I would say its Core Mechanics where better than the original Bayonetta. Sadly the frame drop is bad in parts and tbe camera is sometimes annoying.

You could say the same for the Sony fandom when certain games weren't on PlayStation yet. Where were the cows when Mass Effect came along before the ME2 port? Where were they for Elder Scrolls before the Oblivion port?

As i said before Bayonetta 2 is a must buy. If its close to how good original was , which in fact itll be better , one of the best Wii U titles to own hands down imho. And System needs such titles , something else than the same based Nintendo icons AAA titles.

Should be reversed if you're going to do it correctly, but not surprising. Nintendo plebs can't handle actual gameplay depth, so anything with a modicum of thought would go over their heads as well.

That's not such a bad thing, the first game was excellent, and there's very little like that out there.

Nothing wrong with getting rid of mid-cinematic QTEs, I personally don't remember them being an issue though, but we still get QTE for special attacks. As for shooting mini-game, that was rather awesome, it was totally an homage to Space Harrier. Don't really see a reason to do that twice. I just take issue with anybody that might think that was a blemish on the last game.

That's what I love about the last game and look forward to with this, the last one was so replayable, and it was challenging and trying to get platinum trophies at the various enemy encounters and stages was a great challenge, and made more fun by the games solid combat mechanics. I'd run through the game's stages trying to earn the best scores, and then take the difficulty up a notch and try to perfect playing those stages.

As for what EDGE ended with, I can't say I agree. From what I can tell so far I think they made an excellent game here, but I somehow doubt Nintendo will gain much from this. I highly doubt this excellent game will sell. Can't agree with SEGAs loss is Nintendo's gain, as I don't think Nintendo will gain much from this. SEGA on the other hand did drop the ball, they should have followed up with a Bayonetta sequel immediately. It takes time for IPs to gain footing, and Bayonetta made a worthy 2 million good first effort. Seriously after a month of game sales it seemed like this game was going to flat out at 1 million sales but good word of mouth kept sales up past the 2 million point. But that was on the PS3 and Xbox 360, where a combined userbase of 75 million units bought 2 million copies, how much does Nintendo expect to sell on the Wii U with only like 7 million consoles sold? Just saying, by those same proportions, Nintendo might only expect to sell a couple hundred thousand worldwide. Anyhow, I certainly know I'll be among the few to enjoy this.

Giantbomb is a website that had 2 of its writers go on a roller coaster while playing Super Mario Bros 3. They are easily the perfect website to enjoy a game like Bayonetta, you ignorant twit.

Who needs Bayonetta 2 when I have Bayonetta on PS3?

Ironic because that comic is somewhat targeted at me (a Nintendo gamer). And I'm skipping Hyrule Warriors to have enough money for Bayonetta 2. The complete opposite what you're trying to say.

Bayonetta is going to be a quality game by Platinum, but I'm not ever going to trust Edge. I learned that tons many years ago.

As I stated, I see a Metal Gear Rising quality title incoming with a lot of solid 8's. I'm okay with that, but I'm not paying full price for it...unless reviewers I trust paint a similar picture to a Kamiya level quality experience, and unfortunately he's not working on Bayonetta 2.

Platinum is good. I own all their games.

Platinum with Kamiya directed games are excellent.

On the flip side, this has been a terrible year in gaming, so I may buy this sooner at the $40 mark out of the sheer sadness of all the money I saved not having to buy mediocre 2014 titles.

Can't wait for the game. I was a bit unsure about The Wonderful 101, but that game was truly amazing, especially the final boss in my opinion.

I was personally playing Bayonetta when it came out. I'm a big Devil May Cry fan so I was all over that. Unfortunately I bought it on the PS3 as I didn't have a 360 at the time. Playing the game on sub 20fps is just terrible and I've seen how beautifully it runs on 360 with better visuals and far better performance.I hope the sequel is smooth on Wii U.

Unlike Bayonetta 2, Wonderful 101 was a Hideki Kamiya directed game. I bought Wonderful 101 day one as I do all his games since the PS1 era. He also created and directed Bayonetta 1 as he's part of Platinum. Unfortunately, Kamiya isn't directing the Bayonetta 2 sequel, but it's going to be based on his amazing first game and it should be a fun title as all Platinum games are between fun - amazing. IMO, the Kamiya directed Platinum titles are the amazing ones, but all the Platinum titles are good fun.
