Sony makes great cut-scene movie games. But the actual gameplay is rather stale and borrowed. Nintendo and Microsoft on the other hand like to limit the cut-scenes and actually focus on the gameplay. Like Mario, Zelda, Gears of War, Halo. Those games always have some of the best if not THE best gameplay of their respected genres. Those games also limit the amount of waiting around for a cut-scene to end. Sony likes to go heavy on them for most of their exclusives, they even thow in a bunch of quick-time events into the cutscenes themselves. It was cool in 2002 but by now I feel its boring and lazy.

What do you guys think? Do they feel it adds to the production values? I would much rather have an in-your-face edge of my seat gameplay heavy game like Gears of War than a lot of these so-called "games" Sony puts out.

I am not sure Sony or MS say all that much in what the developers are making as far as cutscenes. Nintnedo really seem to just push gameplay but I am not all that into their games anymore.

I never really thought about that but come to think of it a lot of Sony's games are kind of movie-esque.

Because he wants it to have games, not movies.

Why wouldn't anybody? One game comes out you guys act as if it changes the entire course or the way a lot of Sony games have been, which is very movie-esque.

You people are very difficult to have a serious discussion with.

You are aware the playstation brand enjoyed two very successful generations before the ps3 right? I like how the introduction of a few cinematic-esque first party titles completely takes precedence over that.

*Hint* one of them took place when the dreamcast was murdered.

I'm well aware, however in those two prior generations making a cinematic game was not exactly something which could be prevalent due to the lack of graphical fidelity. With the increase in polygons and hardware capabilities introduced with the PS3 Sony has abused this so to speak too frequently.

The Souls series is inspired by Zelda, so its no shocker they stay away from lots of cutscenes, reading, crazy graphics, etc.

That could be said of countless games, are you just saying Zelda because it's the most recognizable?

Off the top of my head? Darksiders, Beyond Good and Evil & Okami. It seems to me like you're drawing a parallel to Zelda in particular that doesn't really exist.

It's more inspired by classic arcades in principles e.g. not giving the player a pass just because they played for a certain amount of time, learning lessons from failure, a scoring system that does not reward any sort of failiure etc.

I didn't get the hint of any influence from Zelda in Demon's Souls aside from minor aspects of the setting (swords, magic etc.). The gameplay is more heavily influenced by the formerly mentioned principles.

Better question: Why the hell do people like cut-scenes over gameplay? Sony aren't the ones buying their games.

Sony likes it? It would be more accurate to say that "gamers" like it, as the consumer is what dictates market direction.

Because easy games sell more than the ones that require skills to beat. It's not just Sony, a lot of devs are taking this direction these days.

I don't follow. Many genres are made to be streamlined "weekend" games. FPS games where you are roped along, qtes, etc.

LittleBigPlanet 3

Little Big Planet 3 is the most difficult game in the series by virtue of its challenges. More complicated problems mean more tools to solve them, giving you a wide berth to choose your own path through Bunkum. The push for creativity is limited in the way you play the campaign, but it’s an overwhelming presence within creation mode, offering boundless ways to leave your own mark on Craftworld.

inFamous Second Son

Second Son focuses on pure enjoyment. It communicates that through the excellent combat that forces you to concoct crazy tactics to overthrow the invading forces. It draws you in further through its incredible visuals that not only hint at the PlayStation 4's impressive power, but employ a sensible artistic touch that makes Seattle a place you want to explore.

No mention of the word cutscene anywhere, and all are being praised on their gameplay enjoyment. Let's toss in a few more games with more gameplay over cutscenes made by Sony:

Patapon

Gravity Rush

Tearaway

MLB 15 The Show

SingStar

Jak and Daxter

Sly Cooper

Gran Turismo

Killzone Mercenary

Motorstorm

Shadow of the Colossus

Ico

The Last of Us

Then if we move to Sony published games:

PlayStation AllStars BR

Hohokum

Journey

CounterSpy

Ratchet and Clank

DUST 514

The Unfinished Swan

Twisted Metal

Starhawk

And so on.

So try creating a rule and an exception best you can. You can see that no matter what year and what genre, you have variety.

Why is @ps4hasnogames so salty?

Because he wants it to have games, not movies.

Which games are you referring to exactly? You didn't list any. I can think of a few cutscene heavy games, but certainly not a majority.
